By dropping Scotland we got ahead of ourselves and showed essendon no respect.
Scotland is a better player than Garlop/Simpson/Robbo/Joesph/Johnson/Thorton etc
Why Sentana and Scotland got left out has me scatching my head.
Ratten was one of our worst tonite as well.
Waite should of been on Lloyd
Bowyer on lucas
Thorton out of the way or loose man but dont put him on a player that can play as we seen again tonight/no idea ffs
Hindsight................Setana-LLoyd
Waite-Lucas
Bowyer-Ryder

Arrogant selection and game plan hurt lets learn

My first issue is with selection and the 2nd is with the gameplan vs Essendon.

Selection - How HEATH SCOTLAND could not be in that side was beyond belief, any of Russell, Joesph, Grigg or Johnson are not within a bulls roar of him as a floating mid or half back or as a footballer. Further how we could not pick a bigger body defender such as Sentana is also beyond belief.

Gameplan - we play Essendon again and again and we go head to head with them and we lose. How about we tighten up and clamp down on Stanton, Dempsey (oh my god) Watson and co. If we clamp down on them like 90% of sides do they are very ordinary. There key strength is pace , pace and more pace yet we continue time after time to allow for a free flowing open game against them.

In the end I hope this is a minor hiccup but in many regards this is our most dissappionting loss since our finals loss to the tigers, especially given Judd and Fev were dominate.

who is Garlop?

Scotland played an average game last week and the ones you mentioned didnt..someone had to make way for grigg and it was scotland.

O'hailpin is a hack and isnt good enough for AFL.

Not only don't I know who Garlop is, but I'm rather bemused that Glen Bowyer is still on our list. I thought we delisted him a few years ago. Maybe the OP meant Garlett & Bower.

BTW, for homework this long weekend, the OP can write out Setanta's christian name 100 times to make sure he is aware of the correct spelling.

Play a good game then an average one and get dropped.
Yes that makes sense. Our team must be as good as geelong and the hawks.
And Irish would be worse than Thorton.
Yes real smart with the team this week.

Drinking and watching the game and posting is hard to do.
I will write Setantas name 150 times tomorrow!

Russell has played about 50 below average games in a row and gets a game every week. As if we are not young enough we have to play kids like Garlett, Robinson and Jospeh who are not ready for AFL football. Dropping Scotland was a terrible move. Thornton, Bower, Johnson, Wiggins and Russell are all not up to it. For christs sake try and get some balance in the team next week in terms of youth and experience and bring back Scotland. And Ratten stop picking your mates every week.

Who are Ratten's mates.

And I agree with you 1000% re: Russell. He is a bigger turkey than Livo and is starting to unravel. He does something in the first quarter and then gets lost in the X FIles.

He needs to earn his spot. They dropped Fisher and Scotland and O'Hailpin and yet Russel pfoofs around and is not held accountable. WAKE UP!

Re: Arrogant selection and game plan hurt lets learn

I honestly don't know WTF Brett Ratten was thinking tonight ... or on Thursday during the match selection.

*We were always going to be stretched down back when they stocked their forward line.

*Grigg was about as usefull as a 3rd nut

*Jordan Russell was diced up by Andrew Lovett from the beggining.

Russel does what?

Grigg was limping the whole game, even if Scotland is a little unfit at the moment, he still would have had more run on him.

Why wasn't this thread made before the game mate? If you knew it was a bad decision surely you could of had the balls the make it? Instead of waiting for a loss to jump on your won and use the one thing that coach's don't have: hindsight...:thumbsd:

Re: Arrogant selection and game plan hurt lets learn

Jordan Russell really struggled tonight. His decision making was very poor and struggled on Lovett - though he was always going to be beaten for pace in that match up. While the MC love him, he's gotta perform much better than he did tonight if he wants to keep his spot in the 22. With Wiggins having taken his former spot on the HFF and doing a fine job at present, Russell might find himself back in the twos in the near future.

Too many bad selections tonight ...

*Bringing in Grigg (who was as usefull as a five fingered prostate exam) over a defender in Setanta

* Leaving Jordan Russell on Lovett when he got carved up from earlier on.

*Allowing them to have so much run and carry through the middle

Wanted
A defender with a big body
No anyone?

Well I would say Russell for one, how else do u explain him getting a game week after week when he consistently does nothing? I reckon Wiggins is another as well as Thornton. I would say Scotland and O'Hailphin aren't to friendly with Ratts based on this weeks selections.

I haven't been happy with the selections at all this year. U can't say much when u are winning but their is just no balance between youth and experience. Robinson, Gartlett and Joseph maybe good prospects but they are not ready to be every week players. We apparently have more options now so why are we playing kids that arent ready?

This was the surprising one. We all know they get the ball and just run. No idea why we ran along with them instead of attacking them and forcing the error like we did to Richmond.

Overall the intensity was not there by most of the players tonight.

Grigg is one of our best. Can you not remember his heroics? If fit he picked himself.
Scotland was not having his usual impact. Maybe he looks good in an av team but when we play well he goes missing I don't know. Love his work ethic but every spot is up for grabs now. Tonight is a great eg. If you do not perform you are in trouble. T-Bird has been playing OK yet making very bad errors rnd 1&2. But he was up against it today. His fault or the rest of the team for letting the ball get down there?
Blame to every player and coach on the team.
Not good enough but careful about pointing the finger

Don't get me wrong, I love Grigga ...

But tonight - he didn't add anything and we really couldnt have used a bigger bodied defender.

Hell .. I would have settled for Zac Dawson !!!

Stevo should have played in the Ants and won his way back in like the rest.

His soft style totally killed our previous weeks intensity , hardness and 1 percenters and tackle count.

Poor selection form to go against the previous weeks ideology

O'hailpin is a hack and isnt good enough for AFL.

I was somewhat mystified by his demotion last year as I thought he had been contributing pretty dam well. Just like we want Clokey to be a serviceable CHF, I think Carlos can be a more than serviceable backman - No Hack :(

Christ, a four point loss in Round 3 and we're all turning into a bunch of Richmond supporters, demanding everyone be sacked and cannibalising each other.

Yeah we lost, it sucks but the result has probably given us a bit of reality check. If this Carlton team is as good as we think they can be they'll learn alot from tonight and be a better side for it
