Re: Rookie - No. 48: Tom Allwright

And Tenace.

And Matty McCarthy.

And Spriggs, Carrazzo, Playfair, Callan.

And if we include kicking for goal, how about Byrnes and Kingsley?

Some players will never learn to kick well.

Can anyone remember the great Peter Johnston of the early 80's?

If he could kick as well as he marked he would have bagged 1000 goals in his career.

Peter Johnson. School Boy High Jumping star and could he take a hanger. Several times he went up at such funny angles and took the mark , I thought for sure he was on a mission to kill himself. If he played today all of his marks would have been recorded and I'm sure he would have won a car

The marks he took unbelievable and so was his kicking.

Imagine Richo on a bad,bad day and that was Johno . After the cheers that went with a fantastic mark , there was always audible groan once everyone realized it was he that was about to kick for goal. Actual saw him kick 5 or 6 at the Western Oval once when he thought torps where tha answer to his problems but I also saw him miss one from the square in the 80(?) Preliminary.
He was just another of the many "Great White Hopes" we had in that period, when we had an awesome backline and just couldn't find a regular goal kicker. Then within five or so years we had Ablett,Stoneham,Brownless etc. Times can change quickly ,players come and go in what seems a blink of the eye , probably something in that for us to think about in 09

Well give him a chance forgoodnesssake!
He looks Allright to me.

Meto

Definately worth a punt in my eyes I'm just not willing to say we got a bargain that should have gone first round like Jimmy Bartel or Ziebell.

VFL Practice Match 1/3/09 V Bendigo....Comment by Shake & Bake

Tom Alwright - played forward all game, did his job and kicked a great goal late which was a right foot snap from deep in the other side of the boundary in front of the standing area. tough kid.

Didn't notice him much at all today. Seemed to have a very quite game. Still developing though.
