Tom Cooper played for the Dutch at the World Cup, any chance he could still play for us Eoin Morgan style ?

From what I remember no he cant, unless he gets a special grant to change straight back, or waits out again, He has now represented them in the intercontinental shield, T20 world cup and the World cup.

In cricket you can actually represent another nation as long as you full fill the residency requirements. How ever Cooper would have dual passports already, so im not sure if he would now have to sit out a certain amount of time before he could qualify for us

Its funny Ed Joyce fulfilled the residency to play for England, then had to apply for a fast tracked application so he could represent Ireland again. They approved it in time for the World cup from memory as it would benefit a minnow in an elite tournament

He was named in an Irish pre-World Cup touring squad in October 2010 - more than five years after his last outing for Ireland - and shortly afterwards was granted special dispensation by the ICC to represent his country of birth at the tournament in February 2011.

Same thing happened to Dirty Dirk, you have to wait 3-5 years before you can play for Australia again I believe.

Cooper can follow in Nannes' and Morgan's footsteps and play for the Dutch in an ODI and then the week after play for Australia. But once he does that switch he can't play for the Dutch for 4 years

Makes perfect sense doesn't it

Fair enough, that i assume is why Joyce had to get a special grant to be allwed for Ireland in the WC then

Because Holland are an Associate team, obviously so the ICC reckon playing for them well isn't as important.

Any chance to bat at 6 on boxing day? I think he would be pretty handy if he continues in the form he is in. When he gets in, he makes big hundreds. Not sure if Id prefer Christian if it was his bowling getting him into the team. Would like to see Watson bowl five overs per innings and that should be plenty anyway. Lyon can bowl from one end, pattinson should be taking wickets, siddle likewise and whoever we bring in should do a good job. Hoping this guy finds consistency because he could become SA's first player in the test side on a consistant basis since Gillespie.

Why not. I think he's a star in the making (some here strongly disagree). I hear all this talk about "not test quality". What is test quality? The current line up. Other international teams have had to pick players of lesser stats then him for test cricket. Will Aussie selectors realise that we're now in this boat.

At least he values his wicket from what I've seen of him. Not like a lot of current test players. What would be needed is for CA to put some faith in him Might be a stretch because of the Holland sacrifice he would have to make. You never know.

What 3 ODI's every 3 years or so...fair bet if he does get picked I think he may be keen to play regular test cricket against the best

Have silently rated Tom Cooper since i First saw him bat in an ODD for the Redbacks a couple seasons back. When he gets going he looks really good at the crease.

He needs to have a strong season of shield cricket before he is considdered for Test selection however.

I think I've got it. Tom "I only perform against NSW and at Manuka Oval" Cooper.

Seriously though I rated Cooper back when he was with NSW and was gutted to lose him. I was hoping he would have kicked on by now but he's only shown glimpses of what he can do. He hasn't been helped by SA mucking him around by moving him up and down the order and playing him in the odd game here and there. Finally this season he has a defined role, now he needs the consistency because like Ferguson an average of under 40 at the Adelaide oval does not look pretty on the CV.

Tom Coopers 2 big scores have been quite meaningless to me as a Redback supporter. One was in a lacklustre Chairmans XI game the big double was to save an outright defeat. Would love to see him hit a big score in a Redbacks first innings.

Him hitting scores against anyone but NSW and at Manuka Oval would be a welcome change let alone which innings.
