9 players that are mostly best 22. You've just let Owies and Kennedy go from your best 22 already to ease the squeeze.

What would be the plan to improve the depth issue at the club if you decide to let more best 22 players out the door to allow for another big contract?
Owies & Kennedy we’re let go to
Make room for TDK - pretty sure they don’t wait for Tom to announce he’s taking up StKildya’s offer - before they work out how they can make room for him :).

Obviously OOC changes would be planned well ahead of time to help manage contract negotiations.

Tom’s manager is playing this well - of course he’s be letting Carlton know where offers stand well ahead of time.

The was the point I was making earlier. You have already let best 22 players go to allow for the salary squeeze and there's a fair chance you'll have to let more go again to allow for a TDK signing.

It's not great for a list that already struggles for decent depth.

My point is “making room” for TDK, if he’s to stay is already done.

Carlton won’t pay him what Stkilda is willing to pay.

No need to move any more players on to keep him.

He either stays at Carlton for a price Carlton is willing to negotiate - or he moves on.

We didnt let go of Jack Martin, David Cunningham and Caleb Marchbank for salary cap reasons either.

Owies and Kennedy leaving was a byproduct of how the list sits. Maybe our salary cap is in a better position than most are making it out to be.

it is official they are putting contract talk on hold? he such an important player i doubt carlton play around low balling him. TDK would know carlton absoute best offer and he still not signed up.

I never mentioned the top 3 players so I don’t understand why you’d bring them up?

Owies was your best small forward and Kennedy was top 10 in the b and f. Both quite easily best 22 players on a list that has major issues with the quality of depth after the top line players.

I think it’s easy to understand that cap space had a huge role to play in those guys leaving.

Correlation doesn't equal causation.

You mentioned salary cap and you need to take those players into consideration otherwise its cherry picking a narrative.

It’s pretty clear his manager is leveraging the best deal he can.

If it was a done deal, it would be a done deal.

We have a long way to go.

Why are you so keen to make a bet about something I haven’t said?

It’s a bit strange.
Not sure you understand how a bet works. I propose it, you accept it if you like. I bet you can’t don’t/can’t match. Yes?

Very aware how a bet works, thanks.

But given I've not said Carlton will or won't match, and we have zero ability to prove they can or can't match, I'd suggest perhaps finding a better thing to do with your time than making random bets with people over the internet?

No. What else is the internet for ?

Everyone in the industry knows you don’t chase a player, offer a contract, and then walk away. It’s not how it works.
I would enjoy watching StKilda do that however, and then have every player agent talk to them about their next trade request. 😂

But you see they may not walk away but offer what they believe is what they are prepared to offer and that could be say their 1st rounder plus a F2 which could be pick #10 +F2 but if Carlton take the compo could be pick #5
Now Sos has done this before and not budge and the player HAS a choice to either accept Carltons matched contract or enter the draft. If TDK takes the saints offer i highly doubt Carlton match if they have a top 5-10 pick
way too risky

In the same vein as what happened with Baker last year when WCE apparently floated the idea that they'll take him via the PSD... I highly doubt TDK, who loves the Blues, is going to let the Saints play funny business and f*** over the Blues and all his mates on the way out of the joint if he takes the money. I imagine all of this would be fleshed out well before any papers got submitted.

Yes but Carlton won’t have a spare 1.7 to offer TDK so they won’t be able to match

The whole point of the $1.7M offer is that it is unmatchable. I don't reckon there's any person in football that thinks TDK is worth 1.7 but that's the number that makes it almost impossible for him to stay where he is.
