Watched a replay of the Vic Metro v SA game from earlier in the year and if we could pick this kid up late or as a rookie I would be stoked.

Is a pure ball magnet that can play both inside & outside. Isn't overly quick but makes up for it with his ability to read the play. He seems to have good periferal vision and knows what's around him and moves well in pack situations. Also captained the SA side (therefore captaining the likes of Gibbs, Sellar etc) so must have some pretty decent leadership skills.

I have read a few threads stating that his kicking lacks penetration and can sometimes be a bit hit and miss but in that game he probably turned it over 2 or 3 times. Not bad considering he had it about 35 times.

If he's still up for grabs come round 4 I would want us to seriously consider this kid.

I hear he has good leadership skills which is probably the only one of his abilities we lack down at skilled stadium
We could find a better pacier midfielder with that pick
not really interested

siriously cant see why this kid wont go first round pick in the draft, was the highest possesion winning midfielder in the draft getting more of the ball then bryce gibbs, averaging 27 possesions a game and also has great leadership qualities being the captain of SA.

would be extremely happy with him as a second round pick iff we could get him

Harley to Hurley kicks to Hawkins GOAL, sounds good to me, but i think he will go early in the second round personally.

Weaver's draft prediction had him missing out altogether and Inside Footy had him on the list of 75 of the maybe's, not the probably's.

Therefore I wouldn't say he's a given to be drafted early. Also if you have a look most of the draft predicton threads, they have him going in the second or third round to an SA side only.

Lets not be obsessed with pace. If we moved the ball quicker and longer we wouldn't look one paced. Apart from Judd and a few others, most fast blokes tend not to hurt the opposition with their speed because they don't have the best footy nous.

Not sure what the logic is here - do you forfeit all right to criticise the kicking of Kelly and Ling as well? Because I can't see why a kid who can't kick is excused for the same thing the two aforementioned do.

Was this taped or on the internet somewhere? If its on the net could you please post a link. I'd love to see Hawkins kick 6.

As I have stated his kicking in that particular game was pretty darn good. Lack of raw pace would be his biggest concern but he more than makes up for it with reaction time and ability to read the play. Rob Harvey hasn't got the most accurate of kicks and he isn't quick either but he has managed to play the odd game of AFL footy.

As for Kelly & Ling, I think you'll find that their foot skills are quite good over medium to long distances but with those short chip kicks they struggle. This was highlighted more this year because our game plan seemed to revolve around constant chipping, something we can't do.

Sorry CTC, it was taped from Fox Footy earlier in the year. If someone knows how to convert VHS to a computer file (much like the Gaz Snr highlight Reel) then PM me and we'll sort something out.
