I just want to say that despite the disappointing result last night, I thought Tommy was brilliant on Cloke all night. Apart from a very late mark and goal, which wasn't Tom's fault anyway, Cloke's numbers indicate that he was well beaten all night. Not only that, but Tom backed up from last years GF performance, unlike another big Tom Cat. Considering where he has come from, with the injury of '06 and having to re invent himself as a defender, it's an unbelievable feat. Tom is now our most consistent defender, nullifying all the big forwards week in week out. He was one of a few shining lights and made the game bearable to watch.

I don't think TC has his head in all the right spots right now. That said, Domsy pantsed him last night. He beat him up, down and around the ground. 1 goal from the "premier FF" in the game if you believe the pundits, in a game where we were smashed is an awesome effort.

If you had started this thread 2 years ago you would have been ridiculed. If nothing else, shows what patience will do..

GO Catters

Yeah first class game from Loners,as for the other big Tom Cat I thought his whole game mirrored his last quarter of the GF,he looked in sensational touch maybe the best of his career, but once again the kicking boot let him down.

brilliant game from Tom!

Cloke the overrated hack :p
Surely the bloke has signed for another club already.............

Cloke was decimated by Lonergan who has Cloke's measure most of the time. Your key position backs are not to be blamed for your losses, and Taylor has been a success when thrown forward.

I'm glad someone here caller him domsy, I've heard it alot but don't know the origin. Can someone shed some light?

Boy oh boy, Domsy sure did pick a great time to stand up.
Reputations are forged in finals. Phenomenal last quarter from him.

Big Tom never gets enough love, but he keeps on plugging away often taking the most dangerous forward and most importantly often times coming out on top.
His last quarter was telling on Friday night, again standing up in big moments.
For a man who almost died, then came back to dominate the 2007 VFL GF, then become a proficient forward the next year, before wilting in the 2008 AFL finals series, he's had some serious ups and downs in his career.
It seems every second week BF discusses dropping him for a younger player.
Sure he looks shaky with ball in hand some times, but as an out and defender he is of the highest order, and has more courage than most who have played the game.
Seeing Danger losing his mind yelling at him with utter euphoria after the siren was magic.
Let's hope that continues for two more weeks.
On ya Domsy!

Not enough love for Lonners. Has had the measure of all the big power forwards since 2011 (except maybe Pav)
Rarely been towelled up in 6 seasons.
Who's gonna replace him next year? Gardner's not ready, Delaney's too injury prone.
Needs to stay for 2017.

Been a tremendous player for Geelong - highlighted by his overhead marking - got a great record on Franklin

The only criticism for a top notch player is when he tries to play on after a mark/free - even his hand passes can be iffy

I dont know if it is a concentration thing when he is taking a kick - just doesnt look sure what he wants to do - its only one example ( and im not hanging for it ) - the 2008 GF in the 2nd qtr - when Geelong had Hawthorn on their knees - he had a set shot for goal about 50 metres - and he didnt look sure what he wanted to do - and kicked it out on the bloody full .

Never played 1st grade football - but i reckon Lonegran would be better just kicking it long down the line - rather than get into a total pickle - same with Jake Kolo should be told to kick to Geelongs end - never backwards - because he can do some howlers- especially if there going towards Ruggles

This is the main thing I would like to see improved by Kolodjashnij. Too often he chooses to pass sideways or backwards, rather than attacking from defence.

It seems like he's not brave enough to make the decision to kick it forwards to what might be a contest down the ground, but prefers to pass back to another defender, and put it on to someone else to decide how to move the ball out of defence. He needs to understand that quick ball movement out of the backline is much harder to stop, and that he should back himself to just go for it.

Of course he's still very young, and learning the game as a defender, so I don't want to be overly critical. But this is what I feel Kolo should be looking to work on to improve for next year.

I suspect this is also a general coaching directive for our bigger defenders regardless - because of our lack of speed down back, do not take overly risky options out of half-back.

:thumbsu: Spot on, doesn't get half the recognition he deserves, and on current form can (and hopefully does) go around again next year.

Last quarter was awesome. The less said the better about the rest.

Why?

Selwood said “We didn’t picture the game like it was last night — we probably moved the ball a bit quick at times and allowed them to use the ball, use the game style they wanted”.

As I said in the podcast beforehand, Gunston seems to be on his own basically as a player who gives Lonergan a lot of trouble and I thought the first three quarters were no different on Friday. But moreover Lonergan made bad mistakes with the ball.

Redeemed himself 110% in the last quarter though. He was superb.

Gunston seemed to get a lot of his kicks further away from the Forward 50 which has to be a plus for us. He had some bad errors that is true but the Hawks were allowed to play their game and they structured up beautifully. Lonners was massive in the end so much heart this bloke.
