how is tom longergan viewed by the cat supporters? do you fellas want to keep this big man?

Many thought he wouldnt get a game this year, and to his credit he did, whether is be through injuries or not.

I dont think we reeally need him, but is an extremly handy backup as a tall, but with Egan cementing a spot and with us waiting for nathan, I think it may be hard for him to get a regular spot. I havnt seen all that much of him, but his skills looked ok.

If he can learn to take a good grab he'll get into the side. He's big enough, quick enough and kicks the ball dead straight, just needs to work on his marking. Would probably be aided by a summer of gymwork, needs to fill out a bit more.

Do not rate him at all.

When he got a game, looked way out of his depth.

Way too many players in front of him. Should have traded him for another draft pick.

that's not very accurate... he got bashed around by the brisbane defence in that farcical game, but his other two outings were fine. He just needs to put on more weight to match it with the big boys.

Lonergan when played forward doesn't take many contested marks, he is more of a leading type forward from what i have seen. With the likes ok kingsley and ablett already filling these roles it would be hard to fit tom in.

Down back is the same situation with scarlett, harley, mooney and egan all ahead of him.

That is beauty of opinions... That is my opinion, bad luck if you don't like it.

In my opinion, he will not play more than 30 games.

yeah well here's my opinion... i don't rate your opinions. you're out of your depth. :) you don't like my opinion? bad luck.

He's not a backman he is a leading forward. Could be a good one at that imo also. For hiz size he is quick and a good kick. With a bit of muscle and experience at the level he could be a good player. People are still expecting too much of Nathan Ablett imo also.

How have you established that i am out of my depth? For all you know, i could be the assistant coach at Geelong.

Think before you speak!

oh for god's sake. you are a goose, you say ridiculous things all the time and you have no real insight into players. If you knew anything, you would know that Lonergan has massive upside. 3 senior games does not define a player. If you knew that... "Andy" (or is it Ron?) you would understand why Lonergan was not traded or delisted on the strength of his games this year. Back in your box.

Well, that is the beauty of an opinion. Some (many) may think you opinions are stupid, likewise with mine. However, should you or i be the judge of who is right or wrong? NO!

I have no real insight, hey? I can almost garantee i attended more games and more functions that you did this year, therefore i feel i have reason to comment, as i saw all but one match live and all of Tom's games. Did you?

How many did you see? Or are you a couch supporter? Unless you attended every home and away game and finals, you have no more right to comment than I.

Back in my box ay? Please give examples of other stupid things that i have said that prroves i have no real insight into players? As I said before, think before you speak, if you wanna make statements, back them up.

Are you Chopper or Lurker ? :p

If you really were one of those assistant coaches, then LSV is right about you being out of your depth.

*sigh* OK champ, here are some FACTS:
On debut, Tom took 6 marks and kicked 2.1 - not a superstar performance, but no worse than either Thurley's nor N. Ablett's debuts this year.
Against Freo Tom only kicked 1.1, on a day where none of our forwards had a good game. Average day, but HARDLY out of his depth.
Against Collingwood Tom kicked 2.0 and played what I thought was a better game than Ottens.
Against the Lions Tom was kept goalless and belted around by the Brisbane defenders. This was a poor game from Tom, but only through lack of experience and game hardness.

In conclusion, i rate him as having 3 positive games and one dog day. Your assessment that he is out of his depth is a shoddy and lazy dismissal of a potential CHF option who has shown as much potential from his first season in the seniors as Playfair did.

Attending more games than me doesn't make you a better supporter than me. It just means you have more of your weekends free and obviously more throwaway income than i currently do. Lucky you. That makes your assessment of him even less insightful than before. See hoff, you can teach a parrot to talk, but that doesn't mean it understands what it is saying. Just like you. You can go to every game of AFL footy ever played, but that doesn't make you a football guru. It seems to have made you more self-righteous, but that is about it.

Oh, and your comment on possibly being an assistant coach - idiotic. really ordinary.

Hey Einstein,

You never answered my question. Provide evidence of the stupid things that i say?

The assistant coach jibe was a mere remark to suggest that you were judging someone you know nothing about. Likewise, with yourself, i know nothing about you, yet i am do not judge you in any way.

All i do is disagree with your opinion of a player in our lineup. Big deal. Grab a tissue!

As for my shotty and lazy assessment of Tom, how many times do i have to state that i am entitled to my opinion. Likewise, with you and any other registered Bigfooty member. Hence the reason you should not discount anyones opinions, because it is merely that, an opinion. You might not agree, but that does not mean that the opinion is incorrect. Although you seem to know everything dont you?, How are you Bomber? YOU DA MAN!

Attending every games gives me a better insight into games than you, as i imagine you only see a reply(or listen on the radio). You do not see what a players does off the ball, how they move, how hard they work, etc, so IN MY OPINION i would have a better understanding of the geelong team this year.

Espicially young players who have recently made their debut, as i tend to pay alot more attention to their off the ball efforts and IMO Tom will not play more than 30 games for Geelong unless their is dramitic improvement promptly.

I hope there is dramitc improvement and i would love to be proved wrong, hell I hope he developes into the next Wayne Carey, but i doubt it will happen and i doubt he will be given the chance too as we have too many simular players streaks ahead of him.

I am sure there is one thing that we might agree on. That is that Nathan should be in the side before him. You cannot beat natural talent and class, as a result, Tom will not get the oppurtunities and will move on.

nice flip flop there. Now you hope there is "dramitc" improvement? you wished he had been traded away for a draft pick in your first post!

stick to your guns hoff, you either want him in the team or you don't.

And, if i go back to where you got your panties in a bunch in the first place, I think it was you getting upset at my opinion that your assessment wasn't accurate. Maybe it is you who needs the tissue?

God, you don't listen do you? If you could read i said, i DONT WANT HIM IN THE TEAM unless there is Dramatic improvement. Reply to my post, not your opinions. Maybe your upset today because your husbnd did not give you a kiss goodbye this morning.

How am i not sticking to my guns by stating that he will not play more than 30 games?. I have stated this on several occassions now. I said, I hope there is improvement. Who would'nt hope that he is the next Wayne Carey? If there is no improvement, he will struggle to add to his existing games tally.

You still have not answered my question. Lift your game and pull your head out of your @rse!

Go put your new pink dress on, it might make you feel better.

You two seem to be arguing over semantics so I won’t interfere in that, but there’s one thing I will say.

Posters on these boards often refer to “their right to an opinion” and that’s entirely true.

But one thing they often forget is that their right to an opinion is matched equally by everyone else’s right to scrutinise and criticise that opinion. After all, this is a “forum” and without such scrutiny there wouldn’t really be much of a discussion, would there?

yeah i would have thought so too catempire, but Andy Lovell here seemed to get all defensive and antsy at my initial response. I'm just running with it, i can be an internet warrior for as long as thehoff wants to keep it going...

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

Just remember compared to me you are both out of your depth! I AM A ********ING GENIUS!

Einstein,

Andy Lovell here, Just wanted to drop you a line to advise that there are no remaining coaching positions available at the club.

I advised Bomber of your great knowledge of the general club and playing list. He was very interested in adding your services to the coaching panel.

We got Cookie over to Bomber's place, crunched numbers all weekend but unfortunatly we could not fit your services within the coaching's staff budget. It is a huge loss to the club because with you, we think our Captain (Tom Longergan) could hold the premiership cup aloft come that final day in September.

Bomber did suggest that could you work free of charge in a specialist role. It appears that the clubs undies washer resigned over the weekend. What are your thoughts?
