Well you have to admit, even though this match was played against a team that should not be in the AFL competition, it was an outstanding performance. You don't see any other players kicking 10 goals against GWS in the other matches. Well done, it's going to be interesting to see how he progresses in the next couple of years. trading him for pick 37 odd could be a massive blunder. Only time will tell.

Which St.Kilda forward/player will come out and produce a breakout game and make opposition fans take notice?

One haul doesn't make a forward.

Back our current list and recruitment staff. Lynch was slow and undersized for a key forward position. Unless Dank is now at the Crows, unlikely that this has improved.

Happy with Newnes

Good on him for kicking a bag, He always had talent just couldn't use it right at St Kilda. Kicked 10 against GWS who were without Phil Davis clubs best defender if he played Lynch probably wouldn't have got near 10 IMO, He does a reasonable job on good forwards which is the reason no big forward has kicked a bag on them until Lynch kicked 10 today.

what stanley_knifes said

also no tex means they'll deliver it more to lynch

GWS backline is state league standard. If that.

Good on him but I will back Newnes to be the better player long term. Can't fault the trade either, yeah he was mismanaged by Lyon (sounds familiar) but he showed nothing in 3 years at the Saints and his first year at the Crows.

Not being used as a KPP, has a massive tank and has been playing as a HF working up and down the ground

Even when not selected for the crows has been playing as a midfielder at sanfl level and has been killing it with consistent 30 possession games

He is not quick but not slow either, like I said as a huge work rate and is a natural footballer that covers the ground extremely well, make great decisions and can okay forward, back or even on a wing

Tom may not kick ten again however will get better and better as a footballer

Every dog has his day.

I suspect Newnes is going to have more.

I understand what you're saying, but I hate that kind of attitude, especially towards a past player. This 'dog' is only a couple of years older than Newnes and has only played a few more games. We talk about Maister not having enough opportunity to be consistent, Lynch had none. Just because he didn't have a place in our forward line doesn't make him an ordinary player.

You'll get no argument from me. 10.2 with 17 kicks from a guy who hasn't even played 20 games is terrific, regardless of opposition. I don't know how he'll deal with being the forward-line focal point from here on, but I think a run of games will do him a lot of good. Will be interesting to track the careers of Lynch and Lee from here on; similar age, somewhat similar role.

Quality Post. Obviously we are all very pleased with his game, however it was against GWS.

Lynch has a huge opportunity to stamp himself as a quality AFL player this year - especially considering we are missing 4 out of our top 5 forwards from last year due to Injury/Poor Form/Leaving.

Lets hope he keeps working hard and can live up to his talent.

This may just be his trigger game.

He knows he can now.

How weird would it be if all these delisted/traded players started having resurgence a elsewhere.

Very weird isn't it? We had Ivan Maric who , although a crowd favourite , never quite made it. Look at him now!!

In fact as I type this I seem to recall these 2 were part of the same 3 way trade. Maric to Richmond - draft pick to you and Lynch to us.

Depending on who you drafted and how they end up...could be one of those super trades

"Every dog has its day" is a SAYING - I'm not calling him a dog! I'm simply saying he had a big day out, against crap opposition. It doesn't mean he'll become a superstar. It also doesn't mean he'll be crap from here on. It means a little, but not much. He has to back it up in other performances.

From memory Jack Newnes started the day on fire when we played GWS as well few good disposals and keeping Scully quiet without a touch until got his jaw fractured.

FWIW - I understood he wasn't being called a dog.

I don't think he is a very good player at AFL level or ever will be and GWS made him look good. good luck to the kid but he was soft as butter for us and absolutely had to go. I was amazed that we even got a pick for him. He broke a few tackles on the weekend to score but he won't do that against any other opposition and the rest were on leads that I could have kicked. He is a VFL level HBF. Too slow for HBF at AFL and too small for KP.

I know. I guess I didn't like the implication, that even Tom Lynch can kick 10 against GWS. Yes it's GWS, and it's true he didn't show much at all at this level up until now, but who knows...maybe they'll find a place for him. For what it's worth I wasn't saying he'll be a star, or trying to suggest we should have kept him. I just think that if we're not prepared to write someone like Lee off, who's only started playing AFL now even though he came from the same draft, then we can wait and see how this turns out for Lynch.

Fantastic performance and hopefully the breakout game all young players are waiting for !

Lynch is the first ever player to kick ten or more against GWS (or Gold Coast) !

I always thought the 'quarterback role' was his best position (and am not surprised to hear he is doing well playing midfield, too, in the SANFL). He did not get a lot of opportunities while playing for St Kilda even after starring in such role for Sandringham week after week - the first game he finally got was playing forward against Dustin Fletcher...

Can't play, no good, move on, nothing to see here, FFS Melbourne kicked 12 goals in a quarter against GWS, doesn't that say something? :)
Loved Newnes' game tonight vs Carltank.

Well said Brian Speaking.

I'm sure it did wonders for his ego.

Can he do it week in week out like Tony Lockett?

Nah. I don't think so.

A bit of an unsustainable ego boost for the blood nut.
