with the way Swans are losing the games they should be winning (ie: Saints, Kangaroos, Bombers) how can we expect a top 4 finish. Sure we were 5-5 in 05, by this 07, and 2 years is huge in todays competition. Its a false sense of security to say we were in a similar possie in 05. If we cant knock off Hawthorn this week, I'd say we are realistically history for the premiership. Premiership teams need to and can string more than 2 in a row together.

I wouldn't write off your chances by a loss to the Hawks this week.
Even though you will....there's plenty of winnable games for you guy's, and history shows you will get stronger and stronger. You simply can't deny that the Swans are still a quality outfit.
Even if you miss out on the top 4, you can still go all the way.
Prepare for a decent loss on Saturday but don't lose all hope for rd 12 and beyond.;) :thumbsu:

I mentioned in another thread that if we'd kicked four more points in the West Coast and Essendon games we'd be 7-3 right now. We didn't. And we have a lot of work to do. But you only have to look at some of the upsets this week to see that a two game deficit isn't even close to being insurmountable for us.

Top 2 on the other hand will take something special from here.

Yes we have to remember that. We have to remember that we abit more luck on our side the Swans would have 7 wins by now and everybody would be singing a different tune. Sure we only have 5 wins but if we start winning the close macthes then that will go a long way to helping us on that overall ladder.

I haven't given up on top 4 yet - not by a long way. Maybe being 5 - 5 in 05 is giving us a 'false sense of security' but Sydney are a bunch of fighters, they proved that again on Saturday night. I think we all thought they were long gone.. but no, they fought back with 5 minutes to go and were probably robbed of the win. I'm hoping a loss like that will be the turning point..

Going on a similar 10 from 12 sort of run seems hard. But if we throw ourselves at the footy limke we did on Sat, surely we'll win more than we'll lose.

There is also the added spice of the struggling teams finding form. Melbourne, Carlton and aaaaaalmost Richmond had wins this week against heavily favoured opposition. The Hawks this week will be hard to beat. But as we saw with the Swans and Kangas, just when you start to get ahead of yourself in this League it can really come back and bite you.

We could have 3 teams equal 3rd this season. And we may yet end up celebrating the fact that we lost by 1 pt here and there rather than getting rolled like some of the other teams directly above us have been.

its gonna be tough, but things always work out on the end. swans just gotta keep working hard, and i think the forwards have been letting them down lately, or they've watched big bad barry very well. they showed good signs in the bombers game.but not quite the swans yet.

was jus looking at the next round fixture, imo we should be back in the 8 next week, theres quite a few danger games for alot of teams in the 8 next week, and with a bit of luck we should be ready to make a good go of it into the second half of the season, funnily enough we should be ahead of essondon next week too, and were back to where we started from..

I think a lot hinges on the game this week. Not just because it will be hard to make top 4 if we lose but because if the boys can't come out breathing fire this weekend then they have lost the hunger required to win premierships.

Sort of starting to panic. Our next 3 games are very hard contests, think we should make the eight, and if we do our finals experience should give us an edge!
Hopefully some of the latest gun teams,eg Hawks Geelong, Collingwood, might have peaked too early. We havent really hit our straps yet,the Bloods spirit
has to kick in Now!!!

We don't need to be top 4 to win the flag. We can win on the road.

In fact it is probably to our benefit that quite a few of the Melbourne sides are in the top 4. In general we play Telstra Dome and the MCG very well.

i think u can somtimes get too complacent wen u finish top 2 or so... (thats not to say id trade 2nd position for 7th! just trying to remain positive hehehe)

hunger is the key, and the next few weeks will certainly give us all an idea of how much fire there remains in the belly.....i hope to be there on saturday, and right at this moment i'm extremely optimistic, if not actually confident, that we'll win, i can see the true swans back and choking down on all these young hawthorn goers, and hall getting back into some goalkicking form....we win the next two against hawks and pies, then head down to skilled and shut those feral cats up (on AND off the field) and 8-5 looks fare more like a top 4 contender....
when it comes to the psychological factor, every flag hopeful will be desperate to avoid playing us in september, even the weagles, even at subiaco

It's a bit annoying isn't it that we sometimes fail to keep the intensity up. It's almost like we need to paint ourselves into a corner and put ourselves under pressure before we find that hunger to win.

Against Port and the Dogs we were the hunters. We play our best footy when we come out with that mindset. And that's how we'll have to play to get back up into the four.

While I would prefer to be in a stronger position than 5-5 there are 12 games t go, we are 2 spots away from 4 right now, Collingwood, and we have a higher %. The Next couple of weeks will be crucial though as we wont to lose any more ground and keep pace with that leading bunch if we are to make our way into it.

Your all forgetting that we lose early games to maintain our underdog tag. And also so Keiren Jack can get good value on us down at Centrebet. :)
