it's funny when people say defenders cant do as much to stop forwards as they used to, most of the best forwards Ive seen would struggle to take any marks with the hands in the back interpretation.

I laughed at this a little too hard. So almost every example you use, a hawthorn player is better? Righto mate.

is it just me or is Leigh Matthews considered overrated?

I never saw him play so I can't say he is or he isn't but I seen quite a few old VHS matches and he just didn't dominate games as much as what I thought he'd do considering his tag as the best of them all.
I know he was a pocket/ruck rover specialist but he seemed to play more at full-forward than ruck roving and given it was VFL, he only had to contend with 11 different teams every week whereas other notable greats such as Carey had to compete (and beat) the best players from interstate squads.

it could well be BECAUSE im a west coast supporter that i put him in the list. he was a great player not doubt but over here he's put up there as a legend of the game and one of the greats. he was great on carey and some of their duels were the best to watch in the comp but I just wouldn't give him legendary status or call him "a great". just a good player and servant for the club much like Michael Braun or Drew Bandfield.

Cant agree here.
Buckley was one of the better players I've ever seen.
The only thing overrated about him was/is his own attitude and journos looking for the next Ablett or Matthews...
Still, the guy always lived up to expectations if not for a flag...

Disagree here also. Glen Jackovich was fantastic. Sure he was talked up in WA but in all seriousness he was a one in a million CHB.
Constantly judged by playing on one of if not the the best CHF's in history.
West Coast would have seriously struggled without him back then.

Tough but fair call.
Richo played in a team of perpetual easy beats.
Was in pretty much the same position as Pavlich is now and who's to say what could've become of either of them had they been blessed with either more competent teammates or management..?
Shame to see such talent go to waste...

I really just changed the M.Richo for Nic Nat as I thought it was BS. I dont agree with his others either....

But from a Vics point of view, Nic nat never plays well over here so thats why I think he is over rated.

The Cho was a great player, one of the best contested marks to play the game and he kicked 800 goals even after doing his ACL very early in his career. One of the most mobile big men ever to play. Richo is a superstar. To judge him by the lack of team success is ridiculous, by the same measure Bob Skilton would be considered overrated, which is an absolutely ridiculous notion.

I think you have it spot on with R, L and C but I just don't think Y has had enough media exposure to be considered overrated, 'I' is a little bit overrated but not to the extent of R, L and C.

You are spot on and perhaps 'Y' shall be given a little more recognition after the finals transpires considering the individuals 'big game' failures of recent years.

'I' is the one constant with the culture of that club as it's no more evident than their media celebrities (eg Dunstall, Brereton, Crawford, Parkin) who constantly refer to themselves at any given moment...regardless if it's on topic or not.
