Another great game from Betts. Two goals in the last plus an assist to Gibbs turning the game in our favour. 36 goals for the season puts him 8th over all currently, plus equal 1st in the league for goal assists.

Not sure how much more he has to do to be considered top 50, let alone an unlucky. Been one of Carlton's most consistent this season.

Agree, will be in All Australian 40 man squad again this year so certainly around top 50 mark, especially when spuds like Hooker are still getting rated

From Rich v NM:
10 - Petrie
9 - Tuck
8 - Deledio
7 - Cotchin, Swallow, Maric
6 - Wells, Rance

With all due respect mate, I love this thread and your work, but did you watch the game? Petrie was well beaten for 3 quarters. He got off the leash in the last, but if one great quarter is enough to earn a 10 guys like Deledio and Swallow should get 30 votes for this match. I realize he has to get some votes, but there's no way he was the best player on the ground today. Rance was beaten in a couple of key contests in the last but completely nullified Petrie for the first 3. BOG would have to go to Swallow. Deledio and Tuck 8. Cotchin, Petrie and Rance 7. 6 Maric. 5 Wells, did not do much at all.

I watched the full game.
You'll notice that I gave Rance 6 votes despite the fact that he got toweled up by Petrie at the beginning of the last quarter (2 goals kicked on him).
After that McGuane was moved on to him for the final 3 goals Petrie kicked.
The two kicked before the last quarter were not kicked on Rance.
At 3 quarter time Rance was heading for a 9 game and Petrie for a 3 or 4.
However, five goals in a close game means that any way you cut it Petrie is the match winner.
I don't delight giving Petrie the 10 votes given that he didn't really decide to turn up until the last quarter but I don't think it is fair to not give him BOG as he was the match winner and the most important player on the ground in the last quarter (and was almost solely responsible for NM making their comeback).
Had he not done that I would've given the BOG honours to Deledio.
As for Wells, poor for three quarters but important in the last quarter. Again, heading for a 3 or 4 and smashed by Deledio early but his work was essential in the last quarter. Hence, why he received a 6. But he could've just as easily received a 5.
Again, I take your point. I did watch the game. But being that Petrie dominated the last quarter in a close match (5 goals) it is hard to deny him BOG (and I didn't want to give it to him).

Hmmm, yeah I understand where you're coming from and why you gave him the votes. But like I said, if you can play one great quarter of footy and get the same amount of votes as say someone who plays four great quarters of football I think it's a little flaw. By that logic, a midfielder can do nothing for three quarters but them get 12 possessions and a couple of goals in the last and then poll 10. Just disagree that's all, I'd be interested to see how other neutrals picked it.

Just because my rankings fall as such does not mean I don't take into account as much of the full picture as I can when positioning them in the top 50.
For instance, Deledio's 8 ranks higher than Pendlebury's 8.
However, Petrie must come in to the 50 this week as well.

Fair enough, I guess it's your system and you would know more about what the numbers mean.
Just personally the way I view it I've seen better games than Petrie's given less votes, and don't think playing one great quarter justifies 10 votes, but each to their own.

And yes, no doubt Petrie should be in the 50.

(FWIW I'm not trying to say Richmond players should be polling higher than Petrie, I'd have Swallow as BOG with a 9.)

It's hard because it wasn't just a "great quarter" it was a ridiculous quarter.
The last time I remember somebody winning the game off their boot so emphatically in the last quarter was Nick Davis in 2005.
He was having a dirty game up until 3 quarter time and then kicked the four goals, winning the game.
Despite having a poor 3 quarters he would still feature in the votes.
Similarly, with Petrie (except he was better than Nick Davis).

Great example!

Have no problem with Petire's score of 10, he was immense, he kicked 7, he was the absolute difference and game winner.

Gaff must atleast be an unlucky this week. Has arguably been WCE's best-performed player more often than not recently. Also is 6th in the AFL for kicks, trailing the likes of Stanton, Ablett, Swan, Boyd and Thompson. Only player in the top 16 for kicks to not atleast make the unluckies.

B&F possibility in a potential premiership team. His career stats are phenomenal for a top 5 draft pick just in his 2nd season, averaging 20+ disposals across his career (despite the couple sub games in 2011), yet still seems under the radar.

He's in the unluckies at least on weekends form.
Where would you rate him in WC at the moment?

Would be close behind Scott Selwood. Cox would be next in line. Followed by Waters, Glass, Priddis and Naitanui (Waters and Priddis have missed a few games).
Masten has been consistently good like Gaff, and better by the week, but not quite top 50 yet. Shuey just in front of him.

None of our players deserve to touch the top 20 though. Probably a bad sign if you want to win the flag :( The only slight on Gaff right now is that his importance to the team may not have been proven yet.

From Coll v Haw:
10 - Swan
9 - Beams, Lewis
8 - Pendlebury, Mitchell, Breust
7 - Sewell, Sidebottom
6 - Roughead, Birchall
5 - Jolly, Shaw
3 - Cloke
Tell me you're kidding Swan had little to no impact, Mitchell Lewis & Beams were the best. Pendlebury was poor and Jolly kicked 2 junk time goals and was beaten easily by hale in the ruck. Seriously did you watch this game?
