There's always talk about how a team is built around its top 6 players.

Who were our top 6 in 2004? I reckon the top 4 pick themselves:

Pav
Bell
Hase
McPharlin

Then rounding it our we have (IMO):
J-Lo
Sir Robert

The good news for us is that, excepting Belly, 5 of our top 6 (according to moi) will be aged just 23 as at Dec 31, 2004 (Pav and Elvis are still 22), and all are very, very handy players.

We have a few up-and-comers in Schammer and Polly who will be challenging over the next year or two for a spot in the Top 6, and the addition of JC will throw another very likely candidate in there. Des also, if he can recapture some of that Brisbane circa 2002 form.

There are a few threads on DL and WHTP regarding this, but who do you reckon our Top 6 were in 2004, and who will emerge as our best 6 players for 2005?

This year:

Bell
Hase
McPharlin
Pav
J.Lo
Haddrill

pretty much spot on i thought..

Next year:

McPharlin
Hase
Carr
Pav
J.Lo
Bell

I don't think we had 6 top class/elite players this year.

Bell
Hase
Pav
Mcpharlin
J Lo
Gilmore

Next year
Haselby
Schammer
Pav
Mcpharlin
One Of the Carr's
J LO
If you haven't made it by 23, you will never make. Surely they have to be there prime next year

I don't think Haddrill was that great either until the last 7 weeks, but Gilmore? I'd toss the 6th spot up between Haddrill, Parker and Schammer.

Next year:

Pavlich
McPharlin
Bell
Hasleby
Carr
J. Longmuir

Schammer, Headland and Medhurst pushing. Don't be suprised if we see a return to form from the likes of M. Carr and Hayden either, and Haddrill is always good.

Hadrill is a bit like S parker. Not going to be a superstar, but will be one of the first picked each week.

You would have to be the most pessimistic poster on this board!! ;)

Never mentioned elite / top class - just the players that were our Best 6.

If these guys are in their prime over the next 1-5 years - and stay together, we will be a very, very good team.

My 5c worth. Abit repetitive but the top 4 pretty much pick themselves.

2004 top 6

Bell
Pavlich
Haselby
McPharlin
Haddrill
JLo as he finished the season. Polly didnt play well but is arguably part of the central core that provides the foundation to which the team is based around.

Top 7 2005

Abit of wishful-thinking\fingers-crossed here:

Pavlich
McPharlin
Haselby
J.Carr - for his hardness at the ball and his influence on his teamates in attitude and pressure he takes off others e.g. Hase
JLo
Robbie Haddrill, his presence in the side and efforts cant be excluded
Bell on the slide (you cant exclude him), Schamms on his heels.

Top 7 2006

Pavlich (Capt)
McPharlin (Vice Captain)
Haselby (Vice Captain)
J.Carr
JLo
Schammer
Polly should be in his prime and paying dividends on his potential

Robbie still an integral part of the team but not the top echelon. Belly could be playing a farewell season abit player in a pocket etc

We need creative juices, not boring crap like Carry, Joshy, JC, Newbie.

Parked describes a Josh Carr who turns out to be another Headland.

Any other suggestions?

Fair enough, but Rogan is not exactly creative, plus it has the potential to give you the sh1ts if you get a bad batch.
My point was anything but Rogan, but hey I'm open to suggestions and I'm not the boss... ;)

Funnily enough Rogan was one of the few nick names that have appeared on this site that I actually understood. Theres been some crap on this page that seems to make no sense at all half the time :)

Took me a while to work out parked and new, I guess maybe I'm just slow ;)

He no doubt would be if he was under a decent coach, you could say the same about Pavlich!
