Top Queenslanders In This Years Draft

Just wanted to see what other people think of the queenslanders. Everyone talks about all other states and no one seems to say anything about the emerging talent coming from Queensland. Their are alot of players that are under rated from up there. This is my oppinion-


1) Joel Smouha - Mt Gravatt
2) Dayne Zorko - Broadbeach
3) David Hille - Zillmere
4) James Mulligan - Southport
5) Rhys Magin - Zillmere
6) Sam Reid - Zillmere
7) Joey Daye - Zillmere
8) Daniel Brittain - Southport
9) Darrin Stewart- Broadbeach
10) Ben Gibson - Morningside
11) Daniel Stewart - Labrador
12) Brendan Whitecross - Zillmere
13) Mark Davis - Mt Gravatt
14) Mitch Enright - Mt Gravatt


Thats just my thoughts. Dont think they will al go but just wanted to know what other people thought.

You seem to have it in for Whitecross, but ignoring that I'd agree that I think a club may be tempted to use a earlier-than-expected pick of Smouha. Magin's dropped off the radar a bit although could be a smokey late pick. Likewise Gibson.

I've said before there's a tendency from many on here to write off the Qlders this year based solely on their disappointing carnival form. That's understandable due to most pundits not being able to watch them week in week out. But is it fair to write off a player because the team fared had poorer depth than previous years. Mind you I think most recruiters are good enough to look past that to a certain extent. Mind you i hope they don't so we can nab a few of them as rookies.

I've said before there's a tendency from many on here to write off the Qlders this year based solely on their disappointing carnival form. That's understandable due to most pundits not being able to watch them week in week out.

My big concern is that there wasn't the same buzz about this year's group when they came back to the AFLQ. I remember last year that guys like Renouf, Tippett, Kiel, Armitage, Hampson, etc were all highly regarded for their performances in senior footy in the second half of the season. This year, Zorko has received rave reviews but I can't really think of any other potential draftee who has stood out in the local comp.

In 2005, the Qld draftees were Dempsey (19), Mills (25), Gilbert (33), Hooper (41), West (57) and Lucy (66). I would expect a draft crop closer to 2005 (which was then a record year) than to 2006.

thats probably because the top prospect of Reid was injured and before that he was playing good footy.
dont get me wrong zorko was good and is a gun player but injuries cost reid and i dont know what happened to the rest.

Indeed, the best player by hand in the draft IMO. Sublime in close. Fully developed, Reid will be a very strong bodied centreman.

Will he last till our second round pick? and would you take him? How is he physically? is he an "athlete" (cant play) or a "footballer" (good but slow)?

That's Matty Davis....not talked about by any of the southerns but the kid is special. Massive vertical leap and has sensational skills, reads the play well can play forward back and in the midfield. Really good player, not sure if he will get drafted but should find himself on the lions rookie list and what a bargain that will turn out to be for lions IMO.

Clarke and Daniel Stewart two mature aged from labrador went to screening and are also top players. Stewart a great contested CHF which a few teams (Bulldogs, Richmond, West Coast) would be interested in and Clarke a hard running goal kicking wingman...both unreal state league players up here..

What about Rory Lake? He has been runner up the last 2 years at Mt. Gravatt B & F....did a pre-season with Essendon in 2006...only 22 years old and classy!

Yes Davis, was also in Allies match and at State Screenings, a Rookie maybe.Mat Clarke is 21 but Daniel Stewart is only 18.

How would you rate the rucks, DH? Spencer doesn't get mentioned much, but I'm pretty sure that Quigley, another Qld poster, rates him. What sort of attributes does he have?

To be honest ive seen the least of spencer of the lot, dont see many redlands games. Mulligan is a massive unit and his ruck skills are pretty good, Smouha is raw has a red hot crack and his skills aren't as bad as people say, he can kick both feet and he runs all day and isnt afraid to do the hard stuff which is rare for a big man. But from what i saw of hille he was just looked goofy and his skills were horrible..
So basically im just going off what others have said about spencer...
