GAME DESCRIPTION:
Total Aussie Rules 2003 is a game that requires intelligence, planning, and football knowledge to master rather than your button smashing ability like most other sporting titles on the market. Because it can played through continuous seasons (30 in all), it gives you as coach time to build and develop your team into a competitive force by drafting, trading and re-signing the players you feel you require to be a successful team. During the on-field action, you'll need to employ strategic coaching tactics if you want to mix it with the intelligent computer coached teams.
Each season is split into two parts. The first is the Pre Season period, here you negotiate player contracts, trade players with other teams, participate in drafts, and basically handle all your teams off field needs. As with the real thing, ageing players will retire and a new bunch of rookies will be available to draft. Developing and fine-tuning your team can be quite a challenge, it is no easy task trying to sign the best possible players for your team while trying to keep your player payments under the salary cap.
The second part to the season is obviously the Home and Away season. Here you play all 22 rounds of football plus the finals series. Every single match of the season can be simulated by the computer in an instance, or can be viewed possession by possession at whatever speed you choose. Of course if your team is involved in the match, you have the option to make all the coaching calls. Tactics such as flooding, placing loose men in defence, tagging opposition superstars, long or short possession styles of play are just some of the strategies that can be employed to gain an advantage over the opposition. Coaching against the opposition coaches can be tough, you won't find you'll get too many mis-matches here.
There is also a complete awards ceremony during the season. Awards such as Rising Star award, All Australian team, Goalkicking medal, and of course the Total Aussie Rules best and fairest award.
At any stage throughout the game a host of information can be reached at the click of a button. Match statistics are recorded for every match of the season and can be revisited at any time. These show all individual and team stats for a match, as well as best players and goalkickers. Team sheets can be viewed for every team and all information can be seen for every player, this includes a players contract as well as his rating in all 15 attributes that contribute to his on-field performance.
At the conclusion or each season your coaching performance is reviewed. From here you can be hired or fired. If your team has been performing poorly for several seasons there is every chance your club will decide to sack you. You may also receive coaching offers from other clubs, particularly if your team has been performing well. In Total Aussie Rules 2003 you are not limited to coaching the same team for your entire coaching career
