Don't know if it's me or this blasted medication I'm on, but starting to feel all emotional now. There is a lot of archives at TPFP, but there is also a lot of my history there too...all gone. I have had conversations with unknown faces that became friends, who you would talk to on the phone and together we would go over conversations done years before, while reading from the archived posts...now all gone. It's a stange feeling..even though I have never had physical contact, it's like belonging to a congregation of an old church, turning up on a Sunday morning to find the old church has been bulldozed

Don't forget there are cricket and association football (soccer) boards here too.
Yeah I goto them occasionally but it's always good to have the odd one you can keep tabs on from a smaller segment of the Port/SA community without wading through a million posts from a much larger contingent of people.

That's probably what made TPFP's separate discussion threads better than trying to post sport updates in the get really a get social thread lol, that way we won't get people ranting about the people talking about cricket/soccer.

Haha I remember that person, iirc it was grosh147 who was the most skeptical of that story, ahh good times :p

As for Powerup & a few other outspoken individuals well I didn't often venture into the full on Magpies discussions or serious topics for that reason, which is probably why I saw TPFP in a better light than those who left for those reasons.

Ah yes, the Frenchman who discovered septic tanks...he became mine and '54's pet :)

Exactly this. 12,000+ of my written thoughts, feelings & memories all gone in one hit it's pretty hard to come to the realisation to be honest.

I know we can start fresh here but it'll take time to adjust & fully get over the fact one of my daily ritual sites is gone & I might not ever get to discuss footy/sports/life with a number of people I enjoyed conversing with anymore it's really strange.

I had another site I used to goto occasionally close & now reopen at a much smaller scale but it's nowhere near as big a deal as this.

Perhaps we'll also see an appearance of the guy from a few years ago, who joined TPFP, but only lasted about a week, after revealing he followed Port up til the early 1970's, then moved to a small town in France, but had only just recently got his electricity set up. He wanted to know what the hell had happened with Port over the last 40 years :eek:I think he didn't appreciate the skepticism in the responses he received but I'm fairly sure he was legit :D

LOL yes.

If he was legit he is the equivalent of those movies where futuristic science pulls a frozen caveman out of a glacier.

If he was trolling it was one of the best I've seen. Hit all the right marks.

Went to do my wake up schedule today... Wake up, grab ipad, jump on tpfp to check any new port news... :(
Devo it's gone. I loved the site and for years was my sole footy site after getting sick of big footy in about 2005 I think. I guess refinding BF a few weeks ago was meant to be.

I hope the rest goes does well for Vi and thankyou to Vi and Mark and the others for all their hard work put into the site.

I hope the site returns one day, even if the forum side of it is reduced, but I used to love the history part of the side, with full player bios on every port player sanfl and afl... Wish they could resurrect that for us.
What was your username there Scotty? just so I can remember for future discussions here.

I'm sad to see it close down. It had its negatives, but I continued to log on/post on there until recently.

Perhaps some sort of informal arrangement/alignment could be made between Port Big Footy, and the Outer Army.

There will undoubtedly be more who make the move over here, although I'm not sure how someone like "Powerup" would fare on here, lol.

Great to see T5889 make the move - his post game reviews in conjunction with Macca will be sensational.

I could give Powerup my avatar...it would fit his persona :)

I know first hand the number of hours Vi put into TPFP day in day out, her dedication was nothing short of phenomenal. Saddened but not surprised by the decision to close the site.

Yes, Vi has been running the site for so long, I joined in 2004 and she was running it before that.

Well done Vi and get well soon!

Was you Tribey on there as well? That Frenchie was a beauty We referenced him for years

There was another guy who used to post, he was a bit older, but not really in the Powerup mould.

Can't remember his user name, but he'd occasionally come up with some gems.barely posted in recent times.

I think he lived in Port Lincoln years ago, I remember him saying he followed Tasman FC over there.

It is sad that it's been cut off without any advance notice, so we can't say our goodbyes and do one final review. But I can understand that if advance notice was given, discussion would have been distracted, some may have gotten upset, and there would have been a lot of people trying to change Vi's mind.

Anyway,we all move on.

It still baffles me that they went to such a huge effort to put together that brilliant database only to pull it offline because people actually wanted to look at it. Given how accessable other clubs databases like Blueseum, Dockerland, Demonwiki & EFH are, I could never understand why they chose to be so secretive over the Port database. Hopefully the club, with the help of some supporters, can put together a PAFC database that all supporters can enjoy.

That story and his follow up posts was probably the best personal story I have read on both TPFP and bigfooty over the decade i have been posting about Port on-line. It was a hoot to think he had led some pre 1900 lifestyle and then after 40 years wanted to know what the hell had happen to footy and life in Adelaide/Oz.

I think this website will be used a bit to find old posts from TPFP.

Whilst it's still too early after the event, I hope someone with links to the higher ups at the club can possibly take the idea of buying the site/archives to one day reopen it & put a few people in charge of the maintenance & up keep.

It might not have had the technology updates of Big Footy but it still was a pretty big sporting club community & had a lot of great historical elements from the club you just can't get anywhere. As someone mentioned in the social thread it was almost museum worthy.

That's not even taking into account user activity which for the most part was constructive. It'd be a massive shame if it all just died off like it was just another run of the mill site.

I mean we've all seen how well the club are getting the social things right, they need to know a great site that brought together a large chunk of the Port loving community has just virtually disappeared off the interwebs.

Well I found my way here. Good to see some familiar names.

Look forward to some good reading and discussion.

Didn't post that much on TPFP over the years I was a member as there were a few that made me a bit uncomfortable about pressing the reply button. Possibly the same anywhere on the internet but in my opinion no need to continually belittle people for a perfectly reasonable comment just because you don't agree with it.

Enjoyed not having to fish around for links to articles and enjoyed reading comment from people that were passionate and committed and in some cases obviously close to the club. Thanks to those associated with the running of the site and most of the posters.

Cheers and happy days to you all. Go Port Adelaide!!.

Hmm good question... I think it was choo2 or choochoo or something like that... forgot as didnt need it with automatic login :)

Hopefully the club, with the help of some supporters, can put together a PAFC database that all supporters can enjoy.

Yeah surely the club should have a hell of a lot of info in books lying around that could easily be put online for people to see.

I told Mark and Vi that I would be prepared to pay an annual subscription fee to get access to the database. They didn't feel comfortable at the time making it subscription based when they were looking at ways of finding revenues to pay for up keep of the site.

You were from NT, but moved to Vic, if I remember?

Welcome Portwon ! Hope you can make this your new home.

As we've said, if anyone has any queries about this place then the moderators are always open and available either here or via PM for any information. We think we've got quite a large Port community here with some really exciting match threads, game reviews and we've had a dedicated Port podcast going for the past 6 months. We've also contributed somewhere around $20-23k to the club over the last 3 1/2 years with Foundation, Captains Club & Player Sponsorships which is open for everyone here to contribute. We are hoping to get enough money to go into the sponsors draw for the Magpies Guernsey sponsorship so if anyone new is interested, then check out the Player Sponsorship 2014 thread on the Port board.
