I liked Marsh but would be concerned about bringing him to Melbourne away from his support networks. He seems to be in a better place now, but unfortunately mental health issues have a habit of recurring. It was obvious from his comments at the time that he was better placed to tackle those issues back home.

Things can change, but I'd probably feel more comfortable taking him if we were a WA-based side.

Then again, adding him would complete our set of extraordinarily ugly kicking key defenders. :rainbow:

Sounds like he’s moving to Melbourne regardless even if he doesn’t get drafted.

Marsh's partner can only do her Masters degree in Melbourne, thus his move to Victoria to support her. Older now, says worked through a heap of earlier issues. Obviously life can change, but seems to have found his passion again for the game, perhaps another youngster drafted before their ready. Good size, good speed but as folk say dodgy kicking....but can play in a few positions, which coaches like these days.

Worth a punt on a late pick or rookie spot

So the likely success of Marsh is his continued relationship with his partner. He is in his early 20s and a footballer. Risky.

Has all the potential for further health issues.

Baines said on SEN a deal with Bont is close

Only a minor technicality holding it up:
- club and Bont/manager agree on price - seven figures all the way
- club and Bont/manager agree on duration - 12 years
- club and Bont/manager agree on career progression - captain from 2020 onwards, captain-coach from 2025, president from 2026, list manager and head recruiter from 2027

The hitch is Bont's reluctance to over-commit, as he has been guaranteed Secretary-Generalship of the UN from 2021 onwards, so would prefer if he and Bev co-coached, at least for the first season or two...

Is there anything he can’t do?

Is there anything he can’t do?
Eliminating world poverty is still a work in progress apparently.

Also walking on water has been troublesome. On a recent charity walk across Port Phillip Bay he reportedly sank down to his ankles which was a bit worrying.

We shouldn't be too critical though - he's only 22 and has yet to hit his peak.

What is Bont worth?

If he get's close to his ceiling yes he is worth $1.1mil or more per year but honestly his 2018 was worth no more than $750k.

If we take off the rose coloured glasses he would not even rate in the AFL top 20 based on this years output? Cripps has definitely leap frogged him, but Bont's best is still better.

His kicking deteriorated this year and I blamed this on his hip and I know the stats say they are the similar but he was lethal and rarely missed a target in previous years.

We all thought he was carrying a hip injury that was restricting him and required surgery but alas no surgery. Why has his gone ever so slightly backwards since 2016.

Is he a better player now or was he better in 2016? I would say his best season was 2016.

Should he be paid more that Jacko? Not based on 2017/18 output. Every year Jacko has improved a different facet of his game. Was purely an outside mid when he started now he is a contested beast. His kicking is improving each year and has Bont covered in every stat except goals per game.

I currently do not think he is worth 1 mil per year especially if Jacko is on only $750K. Happy to pay him $1mill per year but it should be incentive based.

By the way I am a massive Bont fan and this is not a dig at him.
