agree we were a bit top heavy last year but we still need depth

what happens when Morris and Cordy are both injured - we are then relying on Sid, Naughty and Young as our KPD's
If we even play 3 KPDs - often we play two and ask Wood to play an interceptor role. It gives us more rebound.

How often does the third opposition tall tear a team apart? It's more likely either the best KPF or the mid sizers who do the damage.

Can somebody please post a list of who we got rid of on the list and who we picked up so we can view the whole thing in its Entirety?

Looking at the above in its entirety, I think we have done very well.

Having those extra 3rd rounders in 2019 is nice..

We went into the trade and draft period armed with:

Pick 7
Pick 42
Pick 59
Dahlhaus
Adams
A heap of cal Space freed up by these 2 plus clay and roughie
A free hit with west.

The net result?

Bailey smith
Rhylee west
Vandermeer
Cavarra
Sam LLoyd
Some 2019 picks in the 50s.

Can argue around the fringes (duryea), but wow that is hugely underwhelming.

How many rebounding defenders do we need? Hahaha

Its not like players are pigeonholed into the same position that they played the majority of their junior football once they make it onto a senior list.

Williams, Lynch and Richards were all recruited and earmarked by fans as running half-backs and its pretty clear that the club see things somewhat differently. Each of those players look set to at the very least rotate through the middle of the ground or up forward. Beveridge's mantra of versatility is not just for his/our amusement.

2019 3rd rounder (tied to Hawks)

2019 3rd rounder (tied to North)
The Hawthorn future 3rd game in the Adams trade
The North future 3rd came in a pick swap today
Where did the Saints one come from?

The wikipedia entry is wrong and has a typo (same as the entry immediately above it), if that was your source.

Hayes and Khamis not worth a mention?

Absolutely pathetic off season recruiting. Every single recruit is VFL standard at best.

You've been pretty consistent and strong with your views on what we should and shouldn't do over the past few weeks, so I ask. What would've you done differently? Considering that no draft up/downgrade is done in isolation, opposition teams need to agree to any proposed pick trade and that every move has repercussions down the line. How would you've gone about achieving these ends?

You're 100% correct, we only picked up 2 future 3rds. I double counted the North trade.

It seems that the pick North gave us was originally from the Saints though, they got it from St Kilda for pick 51 and turned it into 46 off us. Clever move by them if I'm not mistaken, cost nothing.

I can’t comment at all on the quality of the kids we picked in the draft Norm. They might be awesome. I’m rooting for them. I like the sound of them to be honest.

But the basic asset transaction ledger is really really poor.

We missed on Wingard.

We couldn’t find a way to trade down and take smith.

We couldn’t find a way to trade up and take a second high end pick before west.

We couldn’t trade down enough to get west for a song.

We couldn’t find a way to convert mountains of cap space into quality talent.

I really like powers direction with the list. A lot. To sign Bont is awesome. To move Dahl was gutsy and the right call. Same with Roughead.

But he’s either too inexperienced, not creative enough or not ballsy enough to get the job done in key areas yet in my opinion (again, clearly most disagree).

The club put him in that position. So I blame Gordon and co. To quote Sean Connery, its like we brought a knife to a gun fight.

Cest la vie. That’s the last I’ll say on it.

We balanced the list much much better, got quicker and better ball users. That’s all good stuff. But it feels very very much like a 4/10 effort from a transactional standpoint.

Go dogs.
