Much as I hate to think it, the way Carlton finished the year, with the young talent they have they should be 7-12 next year without those guys.

Cripps, Walsh, SPS, Fisher, Gow, Murphy, ECurnow, Docherty, Plowman, OBrien, Setterfield through the mids and McKay, CCurnow, McGovern, Jones, Weitering, Casboullt through the spine is not shabby.

With good trades, can definitely be finals contenders. Sadly.

Better dust off the Carlton Voodoo Doll

To counter the we should draft Indigenous players in this years draft:

Even if we draft 2-3 young indigenous players, they still don't have a mentor in the locker room when times get tough if they are from interstate

Just call the club and tell them you are their man J...

Please no Sam Gray or Jack Petrucelle. We're better off just playing guys like Cavarra and Greene, rather than bringing in average footballers.

Bruce and Keath set us up just fine, especially if we can stockpile future picks in the process.

What have cavarra and Greene done compared to these 2 blokes though? Sam Gray has been playing regular games for years and Petrucelle has been getting regular games for the reigning premiers?

Need to take the rose coloured glasses off and stop over valuing our VFL players compared to blokes getting a regular AFL game

Agree on Cavarra but Greene when he has played senior football he fits in comfortably.

Greene has been held back by injuries.

You're the one who has to realize you're not playing Moneyball Manager 2019 on the computer. So what if Sam Gray's getting regular AFL games? He's getting those games for an embarrassing Port side that isn't making finals, and isn't even one of their better players.

Sam Gray is a goddamn potato, and has been a consistent source of frustration for Port supporters for years. Highest yearly average is a measly 1.2 goals a game in a team that barely made finals in 2017, and you expect him to improve us? Seriously?

What had Bailey Dale done before being re-introduced to the side in round 18? He has a decent year in 2017 on the wing, but nobody would've expected him to average 3 goals a game from rounds 18-23. Some players just need a chance, and right now, that's the difference between unknown quantities like Cavarra/Greene, and dead-set spuds like Sam Gray.

Picking up Sam Gray would be like when we picked up guys like Brodie Moles, Ed Barlow and Nick Lower; just a complete waste of a list spot.

Have big doubts on Cavarra.
Tiny , and watching him live not as quick as I had hoped.
Think he will behind a fair few others in 2020.
You might be right, but he at least deserves a shot. He's been pretty unlucky this year with injuries, and could well fit better in our AFL side than our VFL side.

Yes , now we have drafted him , we have to give him every opportunity.
I was not gone on drafting him in the first place , so may have the blinkers on .

The bloke is averaging 1 goal a game and 17 touches as a small forward?

What is Cavarra and Greene averaging in our AFL side?.

Hayes played a final for us

Sam Gray is 4 times the player he is

Could we turn Taylor Walker into a KPD? Would he rather be a multi premiership CHB, or spend a few more years getting the occasional kick in a depleted forward line at the Camrys, as his career fades away...? He can even grow his mullet back.

You're missing the point. Cavarra and Greene haven't been given proper chances yet, so you can't assess their quality as AFL players. Sam Gray has played 100 games, and 1.2 goals is the best he's ever accomplished as a small forward.

Even without Cavarra and Greene as options, Sam Gray is still an awful idea. We should be looking to bring in high quality players to improve on an already high quality team, not Sam Gray.

You have 0 clue about football lmao.

People are so quick to dismiss established players here. Its not like we are the dynasty of hawthorn at the moment.
No, but we're at the same point they were 10 years ago.

Hawthorn brought in Shaun Burgoyne and Josh Gibson. Meanwhile you're saying we should bring in... Sam Gray...

While we're at it, maybe we should look at Lewis Taylor? Jarryd Blair? Sam Gibson? Aaron Young?

Because there's no point in bringing in players who aren't an upgrade on what we already have. Take Sam Gray as an example. He's an okay player. Doesn't make us any worse. But what's the cost of having him in the side? Well he probably takes Rhylee West's spot in the forward line which isn't good for us in the medium term. We are better off playing West who might be lower production next year but for the payoff of being much higher production in 2-3 years.

The second problem with going after very mediocre players is that they won't help us spend that 2mil to make minimum cap spending. There's a time for Moneyball acquisitions but this isn't it.

Club has enquired about Lewis Taylor. Need to read back a few pages.

Sam Lloyd? Taylor Duryea?
Are you seriously comparing these two to Sam Gray?

Duryea won two flags.
Sam Lloyd had a 35 goal season in 2016 and has always been rated a quality ball user. The only reason he struggled for game time the following two years is because Richmond had their best team in 35 years, and were either winning or challenging for flags; a stark contrast to Port Adelaide this year.

Sam Gray is literally the 176cm version of Billy Gowers. Not that quick, can't kick, but hey, he tries. Do we need more tryers? No.

Ferg Greene is NOT a small forward.

Potential Dickson or Lloyd replacement, but doesn’t help our ground ball deficiency inside 50 or our forward pressure.

Go get Papley FFS!!

How do we do get Papley?

Indications are that he is being dangled as currency in any potential Daniher trade.
