When McLean has the ball he is much better than Papley when he has it. There’s a bit of spark about Papley though

Spot on, Lloyd's season was just as good as Papley's. Papley is not worth a first round pick. If some club like Carlton wants to go top 10 to get him, that just proves how inept at recruitment they are.

Happy to pay it too, he's easily worth that even with nothing coming back. Super athletic, can take on the brute key forward. Led the comp in one percenters a year or two ago

Disposals alone don't tell you much. The averages of those three games - 1.3 goals, 3.6 marks, 3 tackles. That's about what McLean averages for his whole year except goals are much lower. So Papley's worst is about even with McLean overall.

You’re right disposals alone don’t tell the true picture and value has many measures you only have to look at Toby’s last quarter against GWS in our prelim to see his true worth. Don’t mind Papley like I said earlier but I ain’t shipping out beloved premiership players to get him in

This is good. If we appear to be a show to get Howard, the Saints better get their Bruce trade with us signed quickly.

Yeah 3 talls maybe slightly overdoing it (would have preferred Howard over Keath) but given how much we lacked in this department, it probably just brings us to a normal level.

Makes Trengove become depth, ensures Roberts is gone, Gardner maybe gets re-rookied if he's lucky but could be his papers signed too. Cordys spot becomes under threat while Young would have to really work for it (but eventually take over from Keath later down the track). Not the worst situation having some quality tall depth.

I'd have liked a quality small forward this year, but we should be able to find someone decent in the draft. I like Pickett and Cahill in the later rounds if we don't have Pick 13 for Weightman

I'd still like Bruce. Howard should be a key defender, he really didn't show much as a key forward and was eventually dropped over his form up forward. Rather not have 3 underdeveloped forward pillars when we can bring in the experienced one (Bruce) and have Howard develop as the big KPD that takes on the number 1 KPF

Very different players, we need both types. Anything to avoid handing 13 to the Saints is good with me.

I love Toby, and doubt he'd be going anywhere, but I also believe Papley is objectively the better and more valuable player. Never seen Toby win a game off his own back, while Papley has. In particular, go and watch West Coast vs Sydney from earlier this year. 27 disposals, 5 inside 50s, 7 marks (4 inside 50), kicked 5.2. No offence to Toby, but he's never had a game like that, and also plays a position we have way too much depth in.

I've seen Toby have plenty of excellent matches too. Particularly last year. I could throw a bunch of stats at you too but I don't think that would be productive, I just value consistency. This was undeniably a down year for Toby and his stats are more than comparable (some might even say better). I'm pretty comfortable in my assessment on that basis alone.

Considering Toby plays midfield judging him on goal output is just as unfair as judging Papley on disposals.

He did play a lot more midfield last year also! But he’s a grate asset to have and I rate him
