Neither are close to Dunkleys standard yet.Are you sure?
People keep telling me that West and Garcia can easily slot into Dunkley's role.

Yeah, fair call, thanks. This stuff rarely comes from within the 4 walls, it comes from player managers or friends of players who like to talk alot.
Player managers religiously leak stories and info out to the public to drive up interest and get their clients where they want to go

Roarke signed a two year deal last yearMy take on who should be delisted or traded as follows :
Mitch Wallis - Trade or delist. No longer in our best 22, others have moved past him.
Josh Dunkley - Stay. One of our few tough in and under players. Would only consider trading for a top 10 pick which we won't get.
Lachie Hunter - Stay or retire. Not sure where his mind is at in regards to footy. Doubt he will be traded.
Stefan Martin - Retire. Gone for sure, should never have been retained this year. Body is cooked.
Josh Schache - Delist. Never going to make it and doubt any club would trade for him.
Taylor Duryea - Retire. Like Wallis, others have moved ahead of him.
Louis Butler - Delist. Looks VFL level only.
Charlie Parker - Delist. Haven't seen anything from him which looks AFL standard
Roarke Smith - Delist. Love his attitude and effort but his time is up.
Jason Johannisen - Hopefully keep. In our best 22 when fit and has genuine speed, something we lack at present.
Other thoughts :
Josh Bruce - Goes for 1 more year then delist. Darcy, Naughton & JUH are already in front of him
Robbie McComb - I would delist now but realistically will get 1 more year. Decision making and disposal is not up to AFL standard.
Anthony Scott - Look to move him on after next season. Tries hard but will never be in our best 22.
Mitch Hannan - As long as Bevo is at the club he will be safe but realistically should be gone once his contract expires.
Zaine Cordy - Don't rate him at all but until we can get or develop some better KPDs needs to hang around a bit longer. Hopefully Khamis and O'Brien can move in front of him.
Alex Keath - The fact that he is our best KPD is an indication as to how bad our defence is at present. Needs to stay around as having Gardner become our number 1 would be a disaster.
Give Jones and McLean a game or 2 before the season ends. Both should be close to best 22 next year. Draft the best available KPD this year and get Lobb if possible for our 2nd pick. If Fremantle say no then walk away.
Bevo should be moved on but we all know he will stay next season.

I guess if you’re rebuilding, two first rounders and possibly top tenners would be pretty attractive for a 26 year old who has 2 years of peak football left. I would give up anyone on our list 26 yrs and over except Bont for 2 top tens.Agree, the Barrass I don't get.
Why would West Coast want to offload him, the picks they get they'd love to land someone of his quality. Not sure he'd want to leave either, hes a Perth boy on a good contract that I'm not sure we'd be able to afford anyway.
Like you said not questioning anyones info but I can't see it happening.
Carlton was lost because they walked it out of centre bounces and we could not kick straight when the game was on the line.Carlton game was also lost due to their tall forwards.
Maybe I'm just focusing on the defensive side too much and have ignored what he can do with the ball in a burst. When you’re feeling good and playing with confidence, sometimes it feels like you’re running on top of the ground.
When you’re not, it can feel like it’s a heavy 9 at Flemington. Same goes for general performance too, which is what we witnessed on Saturday.
Baz isn’t slow off the mark. One of his strengths is being able to exit a contest without any meaningful contact. He does that quiet often.
I agree that we could let a mid go. Just not Dunkley. Dunkley offers what the others don’t.The issue of lace out forward entries speaks to system as much, maybe even more than personnel. We probably have the deepest midfield in the comp. We can afford to let one go to strengthen in other areas. I would rather keep Dunks, but we must make changes and he is the only one that we can / will let go who has currency. To go into next season looking more or less like we have this year is going to end in tears. Bevo himself said that a number of teams have gone past us.
We may well have a replacement for Dunks on the list in West or Garcia, it's just that we haven't seen it yet.
Roarke signed a two year deal last year
He can look all he likes no one will be looking backIf Roarke's not looking elsewhere, I'd be astonished.
Sadly, the jungle drums sound like they are beating for Dunks to leave, unfortunately. It's a matter of how do we turn his loss into the biggest possible advantage for us.I agree that we could let a mid go. Just not Dunkley. Dunkley offers what the others don’t.
I really don’t think west or Garcia can fill Dunkley shoes. I don’t think west runs two ways.
I think the odds are against Garcia making it as a inside mid given his size. I think he will have a good career as a high half forward.

What’s happened to Roarke Smith? Played in a GF last year and now can’t get a game even with Hunter out.
Not picking on you HWGD but I've seen this sentiment a few times.I agree that we could let a mid go. Just not Dunkley. Dunkley offers what the others don’t.

Dunkley is leaving whether we like it or not. We aren't letting him go. He was firmly entrenched in the leadership group and had two years left on his contract and decided he would rather play for Essendon last time and this time he has even less tying him here. He obviously is one of those who feel that football is a job and wants to maximize his return. Good on him I wish him nothing but 300 hundred games, lots of money, and no further success.
Therefore, we need to replace him. Smith improving his defensive game would be one way, or Garcia and West stepping up is another.
Personally I think we absorb the role with a better set up and team defense from the stoppage. I also wouldn't be throwing Hunter away as on form he is a very good defensive winger.
It’s just another strange one. He was performing the same this year as he did in prior years yet can’t get a look in this year despite severely lacking competent wing options. What’s happened to Roarke Smith? Played in a GF last year and now can’t get a game even with Hunter out.
Problem may be however that Bevo’s game plan is shit. In that situation doesn’t matter what personnel you have. I’m of the view our game plan is our biggest issue. You can cover deficiencies with a good game plan..Important what you stated and hinted at (I think I am reading correct if not let me know)
We are looking at every player on the list in light of our current structure and current game plan (which both are a non-existent and a rabble)
We may not need to replace in this case Dunkley what we need to do is address our current structure and game plan and then look at which and type of players are best to carry this out.

It's not strickly Dunkley we need to worry about replacing, it's Libba who's spot was Dunkley's if he stayed around. Not picking on you HWGD but I've seen this sentiment a few times.

It's funny because I see quite the opposite of people being seduced by Dunkley's good but not recognizing his bad. It's not strickly Dunkley we need to worry about replacing, it's Libba who's spot was Dunkley's if he stayed around.
He's considered by some to be the best 'phonebox' player in the comp and Dunkley could compensate for that with brute strength and desire to tackle.
I do think a lot of us are seduced by what Dunkley can't do well, and ignore what he does do well. Baz & Treloar now have to rotate in the centre, we change our set up so either of those two play as a burst mid and we have a combo of Bont/Macrae/Libba/West rotate as sweepers?
I suspect Hunter is as gone as Dunkley.
We should take at least one first round pick to the draft, and with Bont/Macrae so close in age (and therefore retiring close to each other) it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for succession planning if we go for a mid (or mid/forward) with our first or second round pick.
I think west has to be given the opportunity to be honest!Sadly, the jungle drums sound like they are beating for Dunks to leave, unfortunately. It's a matter of how do we turn his loss into the biggest possible advantage for us.
Garcia is bigger than Dion Prestia, so I don't think size is an issue. I just haven't seen enough to make a call one way or another to know if he is going to make it as an inside mid. Same with West.
