"Trade value" is not entirely a reflection of how good a player is, it's also highly dependant on how much leverage each party has. We will have very little leverage this time around and the other club will be well aware of this.

While this is true at least we have a negotiator at the helm that we know won’t immediately wilt. Instead of say a Jason McCartney.

A top 10 pick would be a good get but anything lower than 18 would feel pretty wrong. What does work in our favour is the threat of letting Norf abduct the Dunkleys. He might just re-sign if that’s the alternative.

It's strange how people are somehow more down on Dunkley after a month or so of really good footy, compared to before that month. It's back to the form of 2019 that saw him make the AA squad.

Wouldn't call it down more like realistic.

100% we’ll get a pick around 10 or equivalent, as the main part of a trade with Dunks - maybe late picks involved depending on which club and what they’ve got available. He’s easily worth that and what leverage does anyone we’d be trading with have? Unless he goes to Bummers but most of the clubs he’s been linked to are higher up the ladder and therefor have zero leverage, they want him they pay for him.

Clubs dont really **** each other over and usually pay somewhat close to market value give or take - we have this discussion on here every year and every year it ends the same way. Will be the same with Dunks if he leaves there will be a ****load of haggling and in the end we’ll get close to market value, being a top 10 pick.

Cerra went for 6 + steak knives last year Dunks is a couple of years older but much better exposed form.

Coming into his prime, leadership material & ‘poster boy’ type for a club, AA quality & coming off one of his best years where he ranks elite for disposals, contested disposals, tackles, clearances and has gone to a new level in the forward half kicking close to a goal a game & ranking elite for SI’s - we’re getting a pick around 10 at least, absolutely certain of that

We asked the question 12-24 months ago and that was the info I received. Not sure where he’s at now though. 193cm but at a good age of 25.

I’d definitely take Melican on the cheap. There’s no guarantee that Cordy will be on the list next year so at the worst he can replace his list spot.

Good honest player, in the way Mihocek is good for Collingwood.

O'Brien might serve better elsewhere on the field. Like the wing where dogs need marking presence.

Nah realistically it's the same as usual most of them probably won't end up moving and its just the result of having more accredited media then players

O'Brien's career should of ended when the Hawks went to delist him last year...

After having two young boys (Dogs supporters) sit behind us for a couple of seasons pre-pandemic who kept referring to our captain as "Bottom smelly" and giggling (these kids were under 10 btw), I am now concerned with the rhyming potential for prospective recruits and draftees.

Not convinced. His form seems to have tapered off considerably. Unable to crack a single game for Sydney this season. On investigation his VFL form is moderate. Not sure we need to add depth players in his position, particularly if they're not getting regular senior games elsewhere. Perhaps we can do better?

Assuming Dunkley is going to request a trade…

Then i’d be ok with Dunkley out for Logue as a net result.

West to play as a mid in Dunkley’s role. Might be a slight reduction in midfield strength in 2023, but project West to be at Dunkley’s level by 2024 if he gets a season in the role.

Take our first round to the draft for best available mid.

If Bergman wants to come home then target with a second-rounder plus.

Barrass would be awesome, but too high cost.

Sydney are currently a top two side with a couple of terrific KPD in the McCartin brothers keeping him out of the side. We currently have the worst KPD group in the comp and it could get worse with a cooked Keath and OOC Cordy.

His stats at VFL level are somewhat irrelevant given he’s a lockdown defender. They’ll never be any eye popping form or stats from someone of his style at lower level.

Rather Logue over Melican. I would expect to pay more salary and more trade assets for Logue and still I would rather him.

Lobb isn’t being linked to us any more…. [emoji20] It appears the Dees have given up on keeping Jackson and see Lobb as the steak knives in the Jackson trade. I would be surprised IF we get Lobb now.

Realistically bringing in Logue (2nd rounder?) and signing Jones as a FA; I would love another player to come in but would be happier with our list. Bergman would be a bonus but aside from him, I can see us heading to the draft. Rowe for ‘free’ I would be ambivalent about.

Losing Dunkley will hurt BUT I think West is ready for more midfield time and I love his game. Dunkley leaving is probably Wests only way of getting those minutes. I think it’s easier to bring in a small forward than a midfielder as good as West.


I am quite bullish about this draft class and can see some good rookies having an early impact for us.

Hoping for 8 off the list, 3 brought in by trade, 3 draftees, 1 rookie and a list spot for next years mid year draft.
