That was a good summary of our problems, but I can only strongly disagree with the suggestion of sending Naughton back. Where the **** would we have been without his 50+ goals

Maybe he would save 50+ goals and we would break even? 😂

No, if the Lions got any compensation for him it would be provided by the AFL as an extra pick that currently does not exist. For example, say he is valued as a third round compensation then Brisbane would receive another pick immediately following their current third round pick.

However, if JJ leaves as a free agent we will lose whatever compensation we got for him if we take a free agent ourselves.
The same with Carlton getting a late pick for Liam Jones and he comes to us without having to give away a pick.

What a read! Basically what most of us have been saying for yonks.

I’ve asked it so many times: Why is this stuff so obvious to everyone outside the “four walls?”
It is a brilliant read, and I’ve been asking the same questions as they put in writing again and again. My mum and mates hate my breakdown of our games.

Let’s be honest, that piece has just been written by joe blow supporters like us.

There’s definitely some valid points, but it’s pretty much a cut and paste job from Big Footy talking points. I’d take more from something coming from those in current football programs as opposed to those who sit at home watching our games. Particularly when one of the group members is an 80 year old ex club coach.

My main problems with Lobb is that he'll be 30 by the time round 1 2023 rolls around, and he's not some A grader who is going to take us from position 8 to top 4.
A graders that shoot a team up the ladder often cost two first round picks.
We're not doing that - just looking at players that improve us.
I've run a line through Bruce so we definitely need mature help. Lobb is the perfect age, as Darcy should be ready to go in 2 years.

Seems certain we lose Dunkely (which is an utter debacle).

If we also lose West I will spew (any rumors on this?)

What is our club doing?!!!
Dunkley will announce he wants to leave on Monday next week, I reckon. Shortly after that, probably the next day, the club will announce they have re-signed West for 2 years.

I know tackling doesn't necessarily correlate with defensive pressure, are their some smarter stats out there which show Dunkley's true defensive impact? From an eye test I feel like his lack of pace means he is always trailing an opponent and I don't think he has the skill to do a job like Berry did on Oliver last Friday (negate A+ grade mid while getting the ball yourself).

But that's the sort of 'I know everything' attitude that seems to be the issue with Beveridge.

I don't care if he's 80, 20, or 100 years old. The opinions are valid and Beveridge and the football department would do well to listen to some outside voices. We might even improve...

He doesn't take us to a top 4 side based on performance (ala 50 goal season etc)

He gets us to top 4 based on structure and experience (Being a experience second ruck and another marking target)

Looking at Lobb and English stats, I think they could be a decent combo.

The problem is that how do you fit all these talls into the forward line?

Naughton JUH Lobb/English
Bruce Weightmann West/Wallis/Garcia

Based on his return, I can't see Bruce being a threat in 2023 but who would replace him in the forward line? If he did have a strong preseason, I'd be tempted to push Naughton back.

We leak goals, we need a beast in the backline and I'm not sure Keath Darcy Jones Cordy is going to be enough, particularly if the football department allow Bevo's ****** gameplan to see the light of day in 2023.

I’m genuinely perplexed by some of the opinions on Bruce and his alleged fall of the football cliff. The only way in my view that you could hold these views is if your expectations for what he would produce on his return were completely untethered from reality. The guy didn’t come back from a four week hammy. He came back after almost a year out of the game with one of the most serious injuries a player can have and had no match fitness, while being matched with defenders who had completed preseasons and developed solid match fitness throughout the year. In addition, the way we deliver the ball forward (generally bombing it) he was no chance to make a big impact. People said he was cooked in his first season with us too. The reality is, we will not be lining up with the same young talls in the forward line each week because of form and injury. Bruce in my view will very much be required.

Quite easily

West JUH Garcia
Lobb Naughton Weightman

Bruce is depth as is Wallis if he resigns
Lobb and English rotate
