Apparently Poulter and Tyler Brown played in our match sim and both are looking to play for Footscray. No opposed to these two playing for our last position assuming they earn it. Both could be solid wingers I reckon.

Agreed. Baker, R.Smith, Williams, and Poulter/Brown would at least give us some, albeit potentially average, options to rotate through.

Both Tyler Brown and Caleb Poulter are bigger Mids. Something we may need - 192 and 194 are serious units.

Haven’t seen much of Caleb but appears to have good speed for someone of that height. Tall fast winger - clearly a need.

Big fan of Brown - his stats are pretty poor but his best is very good and seem like the kind of player with all the physical traits and a grea contest mindset but can’t seem to drive his own performance consistently- so when he out there he competes 1:1 he is at AFL standard but can’t work his way into games.

Strong defensive mid - more inside, good hands - Collingwood saw him as another phantom Dingelberry replacement (more Fyfe like) we will have a dozen Bont replacements coming through after he turns 30. So maybe higher ceiling but lower floor.

I always thought Brown was an inside mid? Glad to hear Poulter is on our radar I wouldn’t have complained if we’d given him a spot straight up based on his 2021 tbh

Even if this hadn’t been a good post I’d still have given it a like for using the good old Australian word “arse”.

Too much American spelling and terminology here for my liking (with all due respect to Chicago and Floridog).

Not that there’s much wrong with Americanisms per se. Where they express something in a new, compelling or clever way I’m happy to adopt them. The main problem is that they are so ubiquitous that they crowd out some of the unique, colourful and expressive Australianisms that are at least as good. Like an invasive weed crowds out native flora.

Why use an imported term when we have our own that are just as expressive, and which identify us for who we are, not as some pale shadow of a dominant culture from far away?

Australian?! ‘Arse’ is a British word isn’t it? Use it in a sentence you say.

Yes indeed, fundamentally British it is, but used in a colourful Australian context for over 230 years.

Poulter playing for Footscray would be a great result - seems like a lot of the reason he was dropped was not talent-related so getting a good look at him in the 2nds puts us in a good spot to know if he's worth a punt on at some point

You're probably right but at 190 odd cm, if he can build his tank he could make a solid tall wing option. Both players have skills and if we can utilise them on the outside where they can use them, they might be a viable option.

At that height, they can also help in defence and push forward to offer an option.

This is just in the world according to me anyway.

I guess it is depends on what our imagining is based on.
If our imagining is based on our shared belief that once a recycled player pulls on the beloved red white and blue jumper and is exposed to the tutelage of the great Bevo they will achieve their full potential then we will see two players who leave distressed opponents floundering in their wake and delivering the ball accurately and deeply into our forward line, or

If our imagining is based on exposed form then we will see very few possessions which then go straight to opponents.

Luckily I am a glass half full type of guy.

We can sign someone before round 1. We did it with Anthony Scott a couple of years ago.

Bevo defs rates him so far. He said so in his most recent interview.

Pretty good reports on Baker so far from the track watchers, especially in regards to his disposal. We know he can run and is hard at it so it’s an upgrade already on some of other wing options.

Interesting thing with Poulter is I don’t believe we’ve named him as an official train on player have we? More just that he’s been training with us as part of the Footscray group which has also joined in? Good signs if he’s made that much of an impact in such a short time - I’d be very interested to add him to the list
