Haha freo supporters:

I found this paragraph from Daniels quite interesting:

"There was a lot of very subtle noise about Naughton last year and [a move] never occurred, there was just an undercurrent, just watch that space."

I only want to chase him if he is wants to join us for the right reasons and not another merc. Much prefer we keep Treacy and go for Kozzie

Yeah, the Dogs aren't letting Aaron Naughton leave when there's still time on his contract. If we wouldn't let Dunkley go under contract we sure as **** aren't letting one of the best young KPFs in the comp go. Not for any price. Also, unlike Dunkley, the kid genuinely loves the club and his team mates. We've got him for at least the next two season, regardless of how "hard" Freo "go after" him. If he hasn't signed by the end of 2024 I'll be nervous but I sure as shit won't lose any sleep over it any time before that.

Just out of interest, what WILL you lose sleep over Scrag?

I mean apart from Philip Lowe ... just keep it to footy stuff.

Griffin Logue on $800k?

That's hilarious. He's ok but that's insane

Also, wasn't Naughton born im Victoria, still have extended family here, only moved to WA when he was 10 or 11 and doesn't significantly consider himself a sandgroper? What "home" is he returning to - the state that he spent 8 of his 23 years living in?

Naughton does seem to go to W.A every off season to go lobster diving/see old friends. Not saying that'd be enough to see him go home but it' not like Cooney/Lake/Griffen who had zero interest in going back to S.A

Who else are North going to pay?
Yep - gotta hit 95% of the cap floor otherwise you get punished.
Logue was reported to be on an average of $750k across his contact and no doubt there is some front loading

They've got Goldy and Ziebull coming off the books soon too. They're flush for cash.

So basically if you want to be paid go to Norf even if you're crap.

It’s the reason why Tarryn Thomas is on 700k.

We’ll definitely be asking the question of Ben McKay
Finn and Ben would be a heck of a haul. Should we somehow get Ben, would we be pushing Keath into retirement at the end of his current contract? Jones signed a three-year deal, Gardner as well, and with Darcy and Busslinger also developing, it would be an interesting situation.

Im not inclined to think Jones will last three years. Long term, Mckay, Busslinger, Darcy/Gardner would be a powerful spine to our backline.

Callaghan about to sign a 2 year deal according to Jon Ralph.
Bummer, as I really rate him. Felt he was always a long shot, and the whole distant Bevo connection irrelevant. Giants probably would have wanted two first rounders anyway. Happy to keep the picks.

It doesn't mean he won't want out in the near future as this seems to be a common strategy these days. A player signs a contract giving them financial security for the short term whilst the club gets leverage in any trade deal. Clubs like GWS & GC will start using this tactic a fair bit on their young players.

We've asked twice before, so no doubt we will. I think if he did leave (and I don't he would), only Carlton would be a chance, he'd reunite with his brother.

North have massive cap space so nobody could compete on dollars

I think Bergman is probably our most realistic target.

McKay is a pipe dream, worth pursuing but unlikely to happen.

Callaghan will cost a lot trade wise and may prefer to stay at GWS for the $’s.
Best FA's for tall defenders are McKay, Himmelberg, Howe & McGovern. Personally would target Himmelberg hard after McKay.

Do we need to target a KPD?

I would prefer we focus on a wingman OR a fast inside midfielder. Not as sexy but we can bring in someone who will really upgrade our team.

Look at our wing options:
Baker (discarded by the Dees)
Williams (failed* defender)
Bedendo (failed* medium forward)

Then look at our fast inside mids:

I think you can see my point. We haven’t invested in these positions and we could do with a player or two in each position. Even a draftee that has the right attributes could be available this year for Wingman, rather than trade. Although Bergman would be a good option as we know he is AFL standard. Fast inside midfielder is harder to find and may require a lot of assets to get (moving up the draft OR multiple first round picks).

While If I look at KPD for 2025, I see:
Gardner (improving KPD who plays at AFL level and is not embarrassing himself) [emoji106]
Busslinger (first round pick KPD)

That is a lot more KPD talent. Yes McKay would be awesome but we may get a bigger team improvement from targeting other positions.

Problem is there's not many options for a wingman or fast inside mid. Options are Gresham, McIntosh & Neal-Bullen.
