Croz won't be at the Dogs next year
Turning 30 end of the year, 8 games in two years, I don't think there will be many suitors for him. He'd actually be on decent coin as he signed his last deal with us when he was flying, will open up some room.

Iirc you are related to him somehow (cousin?) so I think your mail would be A1
Not related - very tenuous link. But understand with a reasonable degree of confidence that he has been unhappy for some time.

A few players have - those not getting regular games.
Someone a while back said the 22nd bloke picked thinks the coach is a genius, the player who just misses out thinks he's an idiot.

One of my favourites, he hasn't really been himself since his fainting episode a couple years back. Personally I wouldve gave him a block of 4 or 5 games at the start of this year to try and get his Mojo back. At this stage though all I can hope is he gets picked up as a DFA and gets regular games. I think he would be perfect Maturity for the Roos in the backline after retirements of Zeibell and Hall.

Yep he’s clearly good enough to get a game for North. It’s ridiculous they can get priority picks while choosing not to add guys to the list for free (we would have given him away for a pick that wasn’t used) who would walk into their best team.

I understand if they want to have a kid on the list instead, but they shouldn’t get to make a choice to be less competitive in the short term and then extra picks because of it.

They're right into Nick Haynes as a salary dump deal.
He's on 7 figures!

Watch Haynes closely when you get the chance - I don't know what happened, but he takes ages to get boot to ball compared to his old self.

It also severely affects how those younger guys develope aswell, as we've seen with the suns (more so early days but up until recently).
Getting the right mature age guys around the top draftees is equal or more important then the draftees themselves in my opinion.

Yep. James MacDonald at GWS - huge for their development.

I watch 10 - 15 games of football most weeks including u18s. Partly due to being retired and having time to kill but mainly due to being a glutton for punishment these include GWS, Eagles and North gamess.

Giver me a few years and I probably wouldn't be far off that

Completely off topic, but this typo/mis-spelling of Mojorisin (why no 'Mr' btw?) reminded me of both The Doors and Catch-22!
It is a Doors Reference, No Idea why I didn't put Mr at the time. Potentially that user name was already taken? Potentially Mr is just too formal for the kind of person that I am 😂

DOGS’ SALARY CAP SQUEEZE COMING

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan will hit the jackpot on his next contract as the Western Bulldogs attempt a difficult balancing act next season.

The brilliant forward’s star is on the rise in his third season with the No.1 draft pick booting 31 goals and 33 behinds from 20 matches so far this season.

He has had only three fewer scoring shots than spearhead Aaron Naughton, who has been more accurate in front of goal, snaring 40.27 in 2023.

The breakout third season is certain to land Ugle-Hagan a significant pay rise when talks ramp up on a new deal next year.

His current contract expires next season, when Ugle-Hagan could be eyeing a deal worth in excess of $700,000 a year including the CBA increase to clubs’ salary caps.

But it may not be straightforward task for the Dogs, who are facing a massive year juggling a salary cap squeeze and new deals for Naughton, Tim English, Bailey Smith and Ugle-Hagan.

The four stars are all out of contract at the end of 2024, meaning there is strong incentive for the Bulldogs to start locking away some of them early rather than waiting on all of their signatures late next year.

A late rush for their signatures would put pressure on the club’s list management team to close the deals after losing star ballwinner and best-and-fairest winner Josh Dunkley last year.

The Bulldogs will ideally have more clarity on the out-of-contract quartet’s intentions over summer.

It is expected there will be league-wide interest in Naughton (who won’t be a free agent next year) and English (who will be a free agent next year).

Clubs with cash to spend next year include West Coast, Essendon, Hawthorn and North Melbourne, while Sydney has history of making a big splash on big names.

Collingwood and GWS Giants also have their salary caps in order after shedding big name players last year.

Captain Marcus Bontempelli is on $1 million a season as the new favourite for the Brownlow Medal. Bontempelli’s deal expires at the end of 2025 season.

The skipper is in the mix to be considered the club’s greatest-ever players as he continues his sizzling form through 2023.

Didn’t someone posted on here that the club are ok with the salary cap
We certainly won't be bringing in any big names but I wouldn't say there is cap Squeeze. For reference the $700k that the article says Jamarra will be demanding with his next deal won't be too much higher then the average wage once the CBA is signed.

They need an excuse to write 15 articles a week for Naughton/English leaving and if we don't have cap issues there is nothing they can write

The coaching cull has begun with RS not being offered another contract

Can't help but feel sorry for the guy who's a heart and soul bulldog and it's not like he's had the cattle on the park albeit with injuries and talent
Think it's for the better our defensive structures have been very questionable for a while

This is an extremely well-regarded, longstanding club stalwart to simply not offer a new contract to. Not saying it's a bad move - I wouldn't know - just that it's a big move. I would hope we've got someone with a decent record on the hook already. I will be pretty disappointed if we end up with another first year coach in.

Wasn't Webb already demoted this year and now his wife is coaching Freo's AFLW team?
