I don’t think it’s about copying what other sides are doing but more so accepting that what you are currently doing is no longer working, needing to adjust/reset to beat the good teams and finding a plan to counter theirs.

Yeah of course. I just think the focus should be a lot wider than looking at what a couple of the better teams are doing.

If we’re only focused on developing ways to beat the 2022 versions of the Demons or Cats or Tigers, we’re setting ourselves up to fail.

Rory Lobb is just not what is required in this side. I'm sorry but he is the completely wrong acquisition.

Sam Darcy is the player to fit this role and he could very easily be the permanent forward/ruck in as little as about 1 months time. Darcy is far more advanced than Tim English was. I mean English wasn't even on an AFL list at Sam Darcy's current age.

We have Naughty, Jamarra and Brucey still has something left to give. Personally I'd develop another string in Jamarra's bow and give him time to develop in defence as an interceptor whilst we get another 1-2 year effort from Bruce. Then if Bruce is surpassed we can always put Jamarra forward if need be.

There is a number one pick playing for sydney right now who everyone wrote off as a spud and had so much hard luck with injury. Now he is one of the premier interceptors in the league. And Jamarra has far more athleticism and injury issues than he ever did.

It could be the very latest in Beveridges position switch master strokes and certainly worth a try if Bruce can get back to his best for a couple of seasons.

Nah keep your trash at Brisbane along with your cheating time keeper. You certainly got shown up as not worthy of a top four spot, last year, looks like nothing has changed judging by today’s game.

Yes, I forgot about the old cheating time keeper. They do say things move slower in Queensland, but who knew time stood still eh?

Agree with Darcy’s development. He actually doesn’t seem that far away. He’s quite aggressive and doesn’t get thrown around easily despite being a beanpole.

Really ? Steven King and Hunter are guns. Listen to Carlton and Suns people talk about how much influence they've had on thier success. Massive losses which we failed to replace adequately.
Yes really. Have you watched us the last five years?
We've needed an overhaul for years. Those names may not have been on it but we still haven't properly replaced Montgomery's position.

Jay Clark reporting that there will be an assistant coaching overhaul at the Dogs for next season.

Hopefully we target someone that understands the Melbourne/Richmond game style.
Not surprised, and I don't think it's just as a result of our results this season. Bevo was making noise about the impact of the soft cap as far back as round 1, I'm guessing an overhaul at the club has been on the agenda since before the season even started.

They announced a pretty reasonable increase to the soft cap too right?

Lobb and Bruce are two pretty good tall forwards.

Playing Naughton in defence must definitely be somewhere in the plan.

I hate seeing Naughton getting smashed up every week flying for marks, playing him a n defence will be great for his longevity

Once Darcy and Jamarra develop a bit we can play him back forward.

I actually believe we need a small defender to replace Dureya and Crozier more than anything.

That’s if you don’t think Scott and Hannan are going to be enough.

Should make for good morale for the remainder of the season…

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. Even IF the club has actually decided this, surely the circle of knowledge would be so small (Bevo, Grant, maybe Bains) that any leak would out the leaker.

Although there have been rumours Rohan Smith will go prior to today. So who is leaking?!

This will be the biggest and most important trade period for us in a long time.
Agree. Going to be difficult to attract talent though, after dropping out of the finals from a GF, if the club doesn't refresh the coaching panel. Not necessarily Bevo but desperately need some new ideas, experience and energy.

Not sure how supporters can judge assistant coaches from the outside but we do look short on quality. Hoping Mitch Wallis if he retires gets a gig seems a quality person with good footy IQ. However as supporter we all know our backline sucks especially for quality talls we need 2 for next season. Pick one up even if it is Liam Jones move Astro back Keath becomes a third defender interceptor. A weakness becomes a strength. We then have Bruce, JUH and Sam Darcy as talls in the forward line.

And a strength becomes a weakness Bruce is 30 coming back from and ACL and yet to play and AFL game this year, JUH is showing good signs but is nowhere near the level and Darcy is playing solid VFL football but is again yet to play an AFL game. Naughton is 1 goal behind Tom Hawkins and realistically if he started kicking half of the sitters he still misses he'd be miles ahead, He is the only key forward we have that genuinely strikers fear into opposing teams. Naughton and Keath are both interceptors so realistically we aren't any better off then we are now with just a better marking option then TOB

The last thing we need is another assistant that’s spent his whole career to this point at the club.

If we’ve identified changes need to be made, look elsewhere, bring in new voices and fresh ideas.

I listened to the Jay Clark comments it definitely did not seem like he knew or had any information whatsoever.

It was in some stupid segment of his where the commentators hitch themselves to something they think will happen for example one was Fyfe to dominate finals.

Clark basically said there needs to be change at the dogs based off the back of this year and Beveridge is the main man and a dominant figure at the dogs so it will be at the assistant coaching level as we have lost Corey, king and Hansen and not really replaced them appropriately. Then when Ross Lyon asked him who should the dogs be getting as assistants Clark’s response was I’m not sure but they need better defensive systems so maybe someone like a Matthew Scarlett who isn’t coaching atm.

That’s was it, it wasn’t a I’ve heard there will be serious changes type segment or inside mail it was purely hypothesising.

I'd love Matthew Boyd back - hard arse who knows midfield and defensive structures.
I'd guess he needs to take a paycut to come back though

I think if Dunkley goes whatever we’re likely to get back won’t be equal value.

After a quick look I think Dunkley, Cripps and Coniglio are the only three players in the comp averaging over 25, 0.8 goals, 5 clearances and 4 tackles. I know stats like that should be taken with a grain of salt, but the point is his absence will leave a big, hard to fill, hole.
