What would Barrass cost, remembering he’s got a 5yr contract. Would not be cheap, he’s arguably the best CHB in the comp this year, 27 next year. Paired from round one with Jones at FB and Darcy in the pocket, Keath back up. That’d be bloody juicy.

They’d be asking for 2 firsts with maybe a 2nd going back tbh
I reckon 2 first rounders is probably right.

If Josh Dunkley does end up leaving and we pick up a top 10 pick for him, I'd think we would split it, trade the higher split with our original top 10 pick for Barrass and their second rounder coming back (assuming they have it) which would land at around 20-24.

I know people have mixed feelings about Cameron, but at the very least he's got the experience to challenge Bevo and provide a dissenting voice when needed. I'm excited by this.
Brings a more grounded approach to offset Bevos dream weaving style hopefully.

Was told. What we get for dunks and our 1st will be heading to eagles.
I wouldn't be too disappointed with it to be honest, I think we'll persist with Darcy down back, which is our young developing key defender we all want, Barrass who's 26 is the prime aged defender and Jones will be handy there as well.

Again though, it's all about the system, with the right system that's a bloody impressive defensive line.

We hate sitting the ball out in space for them to lead into. Everything is sat on their heads or drilled as hard as it can be that it's nearly impossible to grab cleanly out in front

I was at the ground last night and noticed that it's actually two different problems; the kicking and the positioning. When we bomb it inside 50 our forwards actually get themselves to be directly under the ball and get into a push and shove. If I had to guess the reason I think the coaches might think it makes it harder for the oppostion to float in for an uncontested intercept.

I hear you but Melbourne game he played 4 positions in 20 min

Look you may be right but settle players in one position and teach them how to play it.

Hannan and Trealor to back line is an example
Trealor looked lost yesterday in defence
Including playing Schache in the ruck in GF, a position he has never played before!!!

Broad would be our best defender by a mile. Should have got him a few years ago, already 30.

Not if,jones is coming to us. Broad would be the 5th best at Richmond and he isn’t a tall either

We have one of the worst defences in the league bringing anyone would improve it but try for quality at least

Dunkley is 1000% gone folks.. said it a while back and people gave me shit for it because of Sam Edmunds writing some puff piece saying he’s staying but it’s 6 weeks on and still unsigned

So to reiterate Josh Dunkley is 1000% gone time to move on

Agree with you I think he walks but would prefer him to stay

would want to understand why he wants to go ? The Money ? Doesn’t like the environment ? Thinks he is better than the club ?

Hope he re-signs and we move on

I have a feeling that Dunks will stay when we cave for $100k pa over 4 years but someone like English will be the suprise packet and traded out. He's still developing but the Minson/Hudson campaigner aggression just isn't there for the lad. He's a quitessential B grader with the occasional brilliant game.

It might be Lobb for English with a second rounder coming our way

More chance of pigs flying mate. Just re-signed.

Right now I want
delist: Cordy, Butler, McComb, Raak, Crozier, Parker.
Retire: Wallis, Martin.
Trade: Dunkley, Schache, Hunter, JJ.

Dunkley for port's first. Schache, hunter & JJ for late picks.
Trade in Lobb and Barass/Payne.
Jones as FA.

Draft 2 best players with the 2 1st rounders and tall key back, tall key forward, small foward with the rest of the picks. Rookie Garner or Sullivan from Footscray.

The last couple of years I was most just holding to keep most players, get them fit and maybe address the glaring weaknesses KPD, Ruck and Speed. Still seems unresolved despite Keath, OBrien, Martin, Jones. Bedendo looks promising on the speed front.

But this year we also saw real problems when Duryea went down - with Williams and Crozier out of form this became a problem. Need to fix this. Red and Dale are established. Cleary looks a future star, Khamis is coming along nicely but they are all mediums - Caleb doesn’t have the speed.

Duryea is getting on and no can play on the Brisbane crew or many of the good small forwards. Garner in the VFL looks good.

Or we could build in-house - Would love to see Roarke back there - he has the leap and speed and is a nugget but has been trying to play out of position because of all the HBFs we thought we had. Alternatively, VDM could go there but he isn’t strong enough in the air.

Positive side is that a few weeks ago we had a big problem with injustices with nearly 10 of our best 22 out. Bad news is as they have come back we have still had troubles. Despite that I believe we have been dealing with a number of injuries this year and these will be big ‘recruits’ for us next year:

  • Bont
  • Keath - was AA level and a huge part of the reason we made the granny last year. Most important off season for us.
  • Duryea
  • Bruce
  • García (break out as he fights with West to be Libba’s Heir apparent)
  • Daniel - too good to be down
  • Hunter - yes it is personal reasons but his run has been terribly missed
  • McLean - will be back and give us something

We still have five years with this group in the window - let’s face it - if we played to our potential we would be finals bound again. This isn’t a list issue but a performance issue.

But five years is how long you need to bring the next crop through an prevent a slump. Some we have time - ie as Bruce finishes Bont will go forward and get 3-5 years more out of him. Bont, Jamarra, Naughton is a pretty fantastic big three forwards. And either Darcy as resting ruck with Schache as cover. Smalls are good with Weightman, west/García and VDM/JJ, McNeil but with only Hannan as a medium and no true crumber we are short a couple (maybe time for Daniel).

I reckon we could go one more year with a short term focus but still will be recruiting mostly for the future. Particularly in the midfield - especially speed and power. A couple of very good ones in this draft.

KPD and Ruck are more obvious.

For KPD today three years out we are:

Darcy (maybe the ruck solution), Gardner and Raak/Khamis:

Parker, Cordy and TOB a look unlikely. Need six. So a big gap and hard to get this group settled together.

For ruck: English, Sweet and Darcy - is one short and Darcy may not play there but at 209.5 already looks more and more that way.

JJ is an unrestricted FA so no trade, we will only get compo if he signs elsewhere, which won't be much if anything at all. Compo stops at end of 3rd round.

Schache is out of contract but not a FA, so 4th round pick only, if anyone wants him.

Hunter won't get us a lot, maybe a 3rd round pick.

Forgot about JJ being FA but wouldn't of moved him from that list as it will be only him. A bunch of 3rd and 4ths would ideal for a Payne trade or move up the draft order.

I like what Dunkley brings. He'll do very well wherever he goes.

But as has been well discussed our team composition is unbalanced and the midfield 'super' group experiment should be over. If, if we turn losing Dunkley into getting Barass - that's a big win for the team overall. We can't just replace Dunks, he's a very good player and worlds better than West or Garcia, but we can cover that absence much more easily than we've been covering the holes in our backline.

Get Barass, Jones, Gardner, with Keath, Darcy, Buku as options/cover in the backline and we're all sleeping easier at night. Barass would be best case but as long as we don't just stop at Jones and get extra support, as it looks like Power is trying to do, we might be ok (As long as there's structural changes also).

We should trade English while he is still under contract.
