They have pick 1 them nothing until the 50s. Would be a bold play to trade away pick 1 into multiple picks to get the capital for Dunkley.

Clarkson does like 'known' quantities and did trade heavily as Hawks coach.

Isn’t there a chance they get a priority pick?

Would assume if they do it will be middle of first round or end of first round which would give them more currency.

Can’t see Dunkley going that way though.

* Lobb off, with Darcy coming through and another pre-season under his belt, no need for Lobb, I'd be find running with a Darcy/Naughton/JUH fwd line with depth of Bruce/Schache.

Spend the money we'd throw at Lobb at Dunkley / finding another good defender.
Darcy is not going to be ready to relief ruck next season. There's also a big difference between being thrown forward as a fourth tall forward against a mediocre team and playing a whole season as a key forward.

He looks exceptionally good and will play a much bigger role than I'd given him credit for early, but the fact is we need a really competent second ruck in the short term, and it's unlikely he will be able to do so.

I get the sentiment. But St Kilda will almost certainly throw their hat in the ring and offer a big contract to get him.

He’s also stated in the past he hates playing ruck. He’s also 30 next year. Surely there can be cheaper options floating around? He’s going to cost way too much.

Settling for cheaper options is what has us with a broken Keath as our most experienced and talented key defender and Martin as our backup ruck option.

It's time to get serious. Teams are going past us because they are making bold list management and coaching team decisions and aren't afraid to splash cash/trade assets. The time is now to correct that.

I don’t think anyone could realistically argue against the second part I think the better argument is that we should be looking at other positions in need with those bold list management decisions. Defence is obvious but another small forward who can kick 30-40 goals would also be ideal.

Did you watch us have 71 inside 50s to score 12 goals on the weekend? What about watching assorted mids/Khamis/Schache trying to play ruck over the past four years?

We need defensive support but the disproportionate obsession with that side of the ground honestly astounds me. We have shortcomings in multiple phases of the game that have been exposed all year.

Missing speed and crumbers / we somehow always manage to have the population of Australia inside our 50 when trying to score.

Then why did Darcy going down there and clunking marks for two minutes help?

There is more than one way to skin a cat. More marking power up forward = less turnovers and less need for crumbers/speed. More crumbers = less turnovers and less need for marks. More defensive prowess = less harm done by turnovers and less need to make the most of every scoring chance.

The play is to get the best player we possibly can in any of these positions of need (preferably two of them). We then account for the other weaknesses with cheaper candidates and structural/systematic changes.

Ive got an itch that Clarko will make a bold move for JUH and get in his ear before his contract is due for renewal in 2024.

Yeah inexperienced coaches should never be given a chance I agree.
No inexperienced coaches should be given a chance, at VFL - then development coach. Ie natural progression, like anyone else in any career.

Inexperienced coaches don’t go from a commercial role at ****ing Flybuys to line coach in a team that played in the grandfinal.

What is he going to sell him on? That they are 5km closer to the CBD than we are?

History generally suggests that if someone hasn’t re-signed after this long that they aren’t going to, but you never know, not all players are the same and some like to wait until after the season has finished before making a call on their future. I’m not confident for what it’s worth, especially when he has asked out in the not too distant past.

Maybe he is doing a Dusty and waiting until the eve of finals to re-sign and give the boys some extra motivation and good vibes to win the whole thing.
What you've said pretty much proves my point, though.

"History generally suggests..."
"...but you never know..."
"Maybe.."

Many think the same way, Snarls, and I understand the line here.
However, no-one has any genuine knowledge of the situation. It's kind of normal supporter paranoia - especially for us Dogs supporters - that is quick to jump to tenuous conclusions.

Are we certain he hasn't signed already, and that it may be announced just prior to our final?

Could it be that be ha committed to us, but the club is trying to work out a better financial solution for him as other player movements become apparent?

Harry McKay is out of contract and is yet to resign. Could he be leaving the Blues? Do we assume not simply because "he hasn't asked out'' previously?

Players change their minds, like the rest of us. Do we know (really know, not just 'think') Dunks still wants to leave?

This is not having a crack at you, Snarls.
I just want to bring a bit of calm to what has been an ever growing assumption that Dunks is gone.

If he goes, he goes. Not much we can do about it.

Until he goes, or signs a new contract with us, it's all opinion, rumour and stuff from those ITK.

Let's all wait to see what actually happens.

Peace, Grasshoppers.

Lobb or no Lobb, the fact we’ve handed the keys to Naughty, Jamarra, Darcy, Cody, West to Matt *ing Sphanger is just unacceptable.

100% he’s still there round 1 next year too
In fairness, if we were told at the start of the year that Naughts, Jamarra and Cody were going to kick over 100 goals between them, West was going to look good in earning 14 consecutive games and Darcy was going to make a big impact on his forward debut, most of us would've taken that.

On the progress of the named players, maybe Spangher's not so bad.

Shopping list:
KPD
Fast winger
Crumbing forward
Intercept defender
Forward Ruck
Burst midfielder

The KPD is best targeted in the draft and yes, that means weighting 3 years. I can’t see us getting Barass or McKay, there is little else out there that is a realistic option. Payne maybe.

Fast winger can be found in this trade period.

Crumbing forward, Rowe is serviceable and appears likely delisting.

Ruck/forward Lobb is on the move, could be obtained IF we pay the right wage.

Intercept defender could be the KPD drafted, eg. Busslinger or Hayes.

Burst midfielder - has to be an early pick, IF the KPD are gone, then George should be there.

I’m not worried about JUH at all. Just a vibe I get. He seems close with the boys and seems to love it at the dogs - looks invested.
