From the hun.

Dunkley:

The Power should think about it this way – if they get an end-of-first-round compo pick for the departing Karl Amon they should be open to handing over pick 8 for Dunkley and sweetening the deal given the impact he would have in 2023.

Lobb:

Everyone hates the Rory Lobb-to-Bulldogs development.

Given what the Dogs will hope to give up – likely a second-rounder for a player 30 in February saddled with a $750,000 wage next year at the Dockers – I couldn’t love it more.

Why?

Look at Aaron Naughton’s finals record – one point against Fremantle this year, a single goal in the Grand Final against a hamstrung Steven May, five disposals and a goal in the elimination final loss to St Kilda in 2020, two goals, but only five possessions, in the 2019 finals loss to GWS.

Clubs know if they beat Naughton, they beat the Dogs.

Naughton had another excellent year – 51 goals in 22 games – but Josh Bruce kicked 1.2 in five games, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan kicked 1.7 in his last four games and Sam Darcy is a baby in football terms.

In a contract year for Luke Beveridge, is he really backing in Bruce, Ugle-Hagan and Darcy to deliver the goods despite the huge potential of the latter two?

Any of that trio might explode next year but Lobb, who was poor in the semi-final after two goals against the Dogs, can only add to their options.

He can ruck and release Tim English forward, he can play forward himself and release Sam Darcy or Naughton as a back.

The Dogs don’t need to hoard draft picks, they need a 30-goal-a-season forward now.

Pretty scary. I knew Naughts has been struggling in finals but didn't realise it was that bad.
If we have to take a $750k contract for Lobb (for 1 year at least) off Freo's hands, surely there's no way we're also coughing up a 2nd rounder.

Warren Tredrea:

  • Josh Dunkley will earn up to $250,000 more per season if, as expected, he requests a trade to Port Adelaide. The Bulldogs are flush with midfielders and have been underpaying the midfield hard nut. And while they would like to retain him, their new contract offer is just under $400k per season, compared with Port’s bid of between $600-650k. The Lions are also interested and North Melbourne has come late to the table. But Dunkley was in Adelaide over the weekend and is expected to nominate the Power as his destination of choice, driven largely by his desire to unite with girlfriend Tippah Dwan who lives in the city and plays netball for the Thunderbirds."

LOL
The full article also suggests Rankine will earn $1.5 million next year. Absolute bollocks.

I think the context that people need to remember around trading for Lobb is that this year:

  • we used Zaine Cordy as a forward/ruck for 9 games, for 2 goals and little ruck impact;
  • we used Josh Bruce as a forward/ruck for 4/5 games for 1 goal and little ruck impact;
  • we used Josh Schache as a forward/ruck for 4 games for 3 goals and little to serviceable ruck impact:
  • we also used Stefan Martin or Jordon Sweet as forward/ruck for 3 games combined for 0 goals (Sweet kicked a goal as first ruck).

In 20 games this year we used someone as a forward/ruck for a total of 6 goals and, other than 3 games, negligible benefit in the ruck.

I actually think Bruce will move to development coaching end of next year. He was cooked this year but willing to give him a pre season to see whether he can come back

The reason I'm not all that interested in Lobb is that I honestly think Bruce will get back into form after a big preseason.
Money and resources better spent elsewhere.
He's 30 and didn't look remotely close to the standard. Was he the best of what we had probably but glaring weakness that upgrades both our forward and ruck stocks

I really respect Rocket, but I find most criticising this trade with the “ah, they’ve already got Darcy” sort of lines have had a 20 second look at the last 22 that’s played (Triple M & Channel 7) before going on air..

It’s just lazy.
If you said that about Daisy Thomas but not anyone that says we don’t need Lobb.
Eade knows the capability of Darcy or JUH having coached them at scotch. Whilst I know Darcy isn’t ready yet, recruiting a forward/ruck probably means they could never play together in the same forward line

He did do an ACL in Round 21 last year. Did anyone expect a guy with Bruce's physique to return within 12 months at 100%?

Sounds like Lobb on the weekend.
I have no idea what the rest of what you wrote means.

Not at all but he looked miles off it and the suggestion that he will get back to his best looks less likely now we've seen his output

Libba is much smaller and took a year to get fully back.
Bruce was rushed in, was top heavy (much like the hub life year) and wasn't strong enough. He'll need another full preseason but 30 isn't that old.

It means he was better than Schache, Swee ect but its a postion of weakness KPF/2nd ruck ot sure it was that hard to understand.

Also Lobb wasn't that bad on the weekend provided a contests just missed his set shots on the day

Yeah it’s certainly possible. Although, personally, I’d probably rather a fit Bruce stationed closer to goal without having to chop out in the ruck, with Naughton and Lobb as the higher options. Alternatively, if Bruce is still battling next year I’d rather have Lobb than not.

Looking at those stats we should be playing the Shaq!

We are likely to lose Dunkley, JJ, Martin and Wallis who would be on a combined amount of 1.8m (likely more) of cap space.

The club has a history of players careers ending early due to knees (Redpath and Clay) and with the expertise of the medical team at the club, know to put in a contingency plan in the event Bruce doesn’t get back.

It’s not like acquiring Lobb is instead of anything else. At worst we are swapping a combined Wallis/Martin for a Lobb, or a JJ for Lobb.

Darcy will play down back. It’s not going to be an issue.

We used English 0 times as a forward. No mention either of Darcy 2 games 3 goals.

Darcy didn't ruck in the Hawthorn game and was thrown in late as something different to try and rescue the Freo game wasn't the tactic
