I agree. I think it's pretty much a certainty that we will have a worse list next year. We won't be bringing in anyone of Dunkley's quality. Lobb and Rowe won't improve us. Treloar and Libba now on the wrong side of 30. Bruce and Keath cooked. Winter is coming.

This is why we need to get busy this off season. Shake up the footy department, new assistants, cut deadwood from playing list, aggressive trading, draft for needs. Geelong and Richmond don't sit on their hands, they aggressively work to improve, we need to do the same.

Lachie won’t be at the club next year.. has been told he’s not required

So we are only a couple of pieces away from being a true contender and we look to be half blowing up the list.

Bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for ‘em

Welcome to the offseason

Players with contract and club wants them to move on

And

Players with contract and club wants them but player wants to move on.

Can’t see many takers on Lachie but I hope he turns things around for himself and I’m sure the rest will look after itself.
There might be if we help out with salary

I think it’s believable because drama follows our playing group. 2014, 2017/18 post Stringer and Dahlhaus and now maybe again. Bit over it. You don’t hear of it from Sydney or Geelong.

Having said that… name me a club in the league that doesn’t have some players that seem less professional.

And if it’s hunter and Baz… well I personally think they’re more consistent and reliable on field contributors than Dunks. Hunter has always been mister consistent and an absolute on field general
Can't agree to this. Dunkley is Mr Consistent and does a job anywhere.

Hopefully club is looking 12 months ahead like Collingwood did a few years ago.
Use Dunkley as a spring board for change. If Brisbane cannot satisfy us then another club can.Or let Dunkley go to North Melbourne for nothing. Send a message.
Who is replacing the stagnating coaches ,and ageing players.Must do it now rather than wait for the inevitable.
Can't keep being detrimental to development by playing so many mediocre VFL Footscray players and get away with it.
Good clubs plan in advance
Being Pro active not reactive has to start now.
Gordon would have .
I get the angst but letting Dunkley walk for free would be as dumb as you can get. There’s an ok deal to be done here.

Yeah it's a cop out. Seen so many holier than thou, choir boy types fall flat on their backsides.

Takes all types in football clubs. Some have tatts, some don't, some drink, some don't, some like to party, some don't, some stuff up every now and then, some don't. If you want to do something about it, be a leader.
Maybe that's why we are chronic under achievers. Maybe if we were a bit more professional that a few more flags would be in the bank

I'd chase Sharp & Sharpe. Jeremy Sharpe from the Suns would go a long way to fixing up our inability to link up on the wing.

Jeremy Sharp wants to return to WA, so no chance. Pretty surprised he didn’t play as much this year as he should have

The Dunkley hate here is ridiculous. The man helped us win a premiership in 2016, has been nothing but a professional player since and expects professional behaviour from his teammates.
I don't think that is a flaw i think that is a positive mindset.
if he goes to another club for whatever reason he wants, he has my blessing. The one thing I don't like is the drag on to make a decision.
The club can move on and we get adequate compensation and either trade in another young gun or use that pick to trade for an experienced player.

I'm far more disappointed in Hunter than I am Dunkley. He seems to be the type of person who is like a worm in a piece of wood. It needs to be cut out and replaced, whatever the cost.
He was an important player for us in 2016 also but it's time for him to go.

Out:
Hunter
JJ
Schache
Dunkley
Martin

Last legs:
Bruce
Keath
Duryea

Needs:
KPD
Intercept defender
Ruck-forward
Small defender
Wingman
Wingman
Small forward

The only out with a potential big draft haul is Dunkley. Hunter & Schache will be third rounders, although Geelol third rounder will be super late.

Hoping that Bland Brand Dunkley chooses Port and we get their first rounder and Bergman (gets us a good winger and an early pick). Pick 8 May could get us Busslinger or Philipou, if not trade it into 2 late first rounders.

Bringing in Lobb for a third rounder will help, otherwise we are trying to fill list needs with draft picks.

Club will need to try and turn either future picks or these third rounders into players that can perform in our list of needs. I think there are too many holes for 1 off-season.

I think we probably need to keep an eye on the future, get some talent to build around Naughton,English, Darcy, Marra and Bailey Smith, they are the crux of our next flag, with Bont still being around when it happens.

The drop off in Macrae, Treloar and Keath is alarming.

Macca had just come off 3 straight All Australian berths, think we can give him some wiggle room before declaring he is cooked.

If we'd actually already told a contracted premiership player he's "no longer required", I suspect the media would be right onto it. While some media have reported he is a potential departure, no one has inferred that the club has actually told him he's no longer required, which is a step up from "maybe explore your options".

Had his 3rd best year ever for production, 2nd best for clearances and best for 1%ers. #3 ranked ball winner in the comp this year, only Oliver and Neale got more of it. Alarming.

List is okay even with loss of Dunkley PROViDED we get some decent coaching and football department appointments.

Players were lost this year

Macrae is all steak and no sizzle.

Maybe this is Dunks problem. He can see we’re going nowhere fast the way the club is currently set up.

If lack of professionalism actually refers to poorly resourced football department, poor level of coaching, poor game plan and poor team selection, he has a good point and I’m in full agreement with Dunks.

More the attitude and behavior of a group of players on the list.

So Caroline Wilson reported on Radio this week that there is a divide between Dunkley and senior members of the playing group. The divide is centred around professionalism. There is a feeling that some within the playing group are happy with mediocrity and others that want to get it done.

It is easy to dismiss Caro off hand but I've heard this story too many times over the past 24months for it not to have some truth to it.
Is "Why do you want to leave your club?".. "I'm too professional" from the same, how to get promoted, book as "what's your biggest weakness?"... "I work to hard"?

Why have you mentioned the Geelong pick? Have they been linked to Hunter somewhere?

Yep. I want the club to get back on the trajectory that means kids will be able to grow up watching a successful and confident club rather than the struggling, timid and mediocre organisation that many of us experienced in our younger years.

To the all the ‘English was flying prior the concussion’ people. Only 6 Brownlow votes 2x3 votes vs Swans rnd3 where Hickey was injured played less than half the game. Rucked against Armety and Maclean as well.
2nd 3 votes came vs west coast against with Sweet playing against Williams and jamieson.
Gawn got a vote against him in the Melbourne game we won.

I maintain a major problem is our first ruck much more than who is our second.
Unless the coaching department sees this we won’t be improving the side.
