Would instantly improve our 2022 side.

Which VFL defender would you bring in if preferred over Tomlinson?

We'll agree to disagree on this one. From what I've seen of Tomlinson, I'd rather we keep Cordy.

Just because we’re interested in Tomlinson, doesn’t mean we automatically get his remaining contract too.

Lobb is similar. The last year is likely torn up and replaced with a longer deal on less money.

Geez some of you in here are hard to please.. a guy who’s an upgrade on basically every key defender we have comes in and has a medical and everyone gets upset about it..Tomilson was great at Melbourne until he did his knee and was definitely ahead of Petty… We’re not going to get an AA key defender in time to be realistic an upgrade is still an upgrade and it probably won’t cost us much!

He will get monstered by the opposition tall forwards and does not intercept to play the third defender role. Tomlinson is protected at Melbourne by May and Lever when he plays, he won’t have that protection with us.

If he is best 22 next year we aren’t going anywhere.

In addition picking him up will help Melbourne get a contract off the books and give them a opportunity to strengthen there best 22.

It shows what % 1 on 1 stats are elite, what we currently have which we already knew re cordy, I was surprised re Richards so it shows he should be punching more as he is a good player IMO. As you can see Jones will be a great get! Tomlinson nope!!!!! We need another key defender this trade period and draft. Someone like Logue or another with the Dunkley money please #sampower #keydefender

That’s why Tomlinson won’t change anything and is a complete waste of a list spot imo.

If we picked him up I’d rather him play a wing. And I’d hate to pay the coin his on for something speculative.

I think you're spot on with your views on Cordy. I'd still prefer him over Tomlinson.

Agree. He’s the type of bloke you pick up and in 2 years time regret not hitting the draft instead.

Almost anyone in the afl system is an upgrade on our current defenders. Petty is better than Tomlinson. Didn’t miss a beat when injured last year.
If we are aiming for 4/5th rated defenders at other clubs (2 clubs now), then that’s as high as we will get there.

Perhaps they see Tomlinson playing on a wing?

At the end of last year I would have been happy to hear we were looking at Collins and other experienced players but we were so far off the best teams this year that I worry adding senior players will leave us in no man's land.

I'd prefer we hit the draft and try to inject some energy and young talent who are better suited to the transition game that AFL has become.

But then Geelong have managed to stay up the top by bringing in players from other clubs so clearly it works if done right.

Just need a better coaching setup.
