If you ask me this is a really bad appointment.

He left Richmond end of 2016 just before thier success.
He left Port end of 2019 just before they started making Prelims.
Now at a mediocre club in St Kilda.

No track record of successful cultures. Bad appointment.

Won a premiership in 04 with Port?

I'd prefer him over any of our current coaches.. At least we're doing something!

Wouldn't be the worst but would need the Eagles to pay a big chunk of his contract

They may be open to that with a higher pick. I’d still say he’d be gettable for anyone willing to pay as he’s been tempted before, plus he missed out on a flag through his own fault and would probably want to be at a contender before he retires. Eagles won’t be challenging before that happens

There is Zero correlation between being a good player and being a good coach.

At least we are doing something is the worst line ever. We need to being making winning moves. Anything below that is unacceptable.

Was he actually tempted? (I gather you mean the North offer a few years ago where they were throwing $$$ at Martin and Kelly as well, or has he been in trade discussions since then?)

I get where you’re coming from and on face value it’s a bit of a concern he’s never been involved with a successful organisation as a coach but I think we’d have to delve a little deeper, he might have had a big impact at the Tigs for example even if he left when they won their first flag.

I’d be interested in knowing what lines he’s been in charge of across his time. Either way he’s been around a long time and is surely an upgrade on what we have, so long as he’s not the whole solution but a part of the solution it’s a good first step

I hope your right.

Just hope the bigfooty reports are wrong.

Hey folk. Hearing its Brendan Lade

Spent 7 seasons at richmond, 2 seasons at port then last 4 seasons at the saints. Seems plenty of experience.
Thanks

Hopefully it is the first appointment of many to help the football department in assistant coaches etc etc

Richmond 2010-2016 was overall a pretty strong period.

They had been a basket case for decades, after winning 5 games in 2009 and looked a million miles away.

From 2010 they won 6, 8, 10, 15, 12, 15 so 6 years of pretty consistent growth.

Everything went wrong in 2016, but the groundwork was set for the 2017 onwards era

Has anyone considered that, rather than a new senior assistant, Brendon Lade is actually going to be our new ruckman?
Beveridge going the Chris Scott model - "older is better".
We'll all be begging for Stef Martin to come into the team by round 3.

If Hunter is out, wouldn't mind either moving Daniel or JJ (for speed) to a wing, or if he's also gone even trying for a Jayden Hunt type who would cost nothing to get into the club

The player I would like to see moved to the wing is Bailey Dale.

The more he can be carrying the ball between the arcs and delivering into 50 the better.

Makes it easier to fit both Duryea and Ed into back 6 which gives us better defensive balance imo.

Dale has the attributes of a good winger. Good running capacity, quick enough, tall enough, solid enough overhead, lethal disposal.

Can even get a few chances to take a ping from 50, quite competent in that area too.

I remember earlier in the piece he was compared to Isaac Smith. Good shout.

Him and Baz for me should be our starting wings. He often costs us a goal or 2 a game trying to pull off a kick that isn't there hopefully hurts us less higher up the ground

I’m not sure you can attribute Richmond’s rise up the ladder and premiership in 2017 to Lade departing. The fact that he was there until the end of 2016 means he probably had a lot more to do with their success than his departure did.

I feel the same way about Brett Montgomery he was pivotal to getting us to the 2016 flag but wasn’t there at the end of 2016
