Id like to hear you expand on exactly how it is that you base much of your premise on why Dunkleyis not a high priority for the dogs from a midfield perspective. Given by your own admission how well he polled in the Brownlow and was the winner of our most recent B&F. Ive read it a number of times and it still makes no sense at all and is a complete non sequitur.

Feel quite strongly about this - Dunkley is a bottom 10% kick in the comp and given the state of our inside 50 entries that can be really painful. He is undoubtedly an elite contested ball winner, tackler, and overhead mark for his position, but personally I don't think he is as crucial to our team structurally as a good number of other players on the list. The issue with the B&F/Brownlow argument is that it ignores the fact that without Dunkley, our surplus of A-grade midfielders diminishes which means Liberatore and Treloar get more centre bounce exposure. Yes, we're losing 15 Brownlow votes, but performance doesn't happen in a vacuum. I'm pretty confident that the upshot we get can overcome that loss, particularly because every one of those mids in waiting (Smith debatable) are light years ahead of Dunkley when it comes to ball use.

The strangest trade I can remember. Geelong's magical salary cap space is worth more in the market than Dunkley.

In twenty years will this be remembered as a critical milestone of equalisation failing?

This. That GCS got themselves into such a pickle is not that shocking.

If a basket case club like Norf or Essendon with a stack of space benefitted, the deal wouldn't be so egregious.

But when the beneficiary club with the yawning gap in their cap to exploit the situation is the reigning premier with the most stacked list, it's the starkest display of a broken system.

I'd imagine the club will just want to use the 3 picks at the draft this year (11, 21 & 30). The 39 is therefore probably not as important to us.

That's helpful to us, as Freo probably need our picks to get the deal over (unless hawks accept only future picks)

Would we be willing to swap a bunch of picks with Freo as part of the Lobb trade? Each club would put a lot of faith in their own abilities because both clubs are hard to get a read on for next year.

The weirdest thing about that Bowes trade is that Gold Coast seemed to be the club who started off with the offer of pick 7 for any club willing to look at him. Why start there, given you effectively lose all power at the negotiation table?

I feel like I read this every year.
We almost get lots of players. Gun ones too. But all we ever seem to actually get are over the hill journeyman with the exception of the one year with Bruce and Keath.

Power has shown time and again he's prepared to go to the final gasp to get the deal he can accept (Treloar, Keath, Bruce all got done at the death).

IIf Dunkley, Lobb are still not done by this time tomorrow, which is likely, it's just because Sammy is extracting whatever juice he can.

I know, it's just bloody frustrating watching Geelong get 7, Richmond get Taranto for a fair price.

I loved the Treloar trade...how did you feel about the Schache trade? Very similar circumstances and hes probably out the door already

Somebody really needs to explain the benefits that the Bowes deal has to Gold Coast to me.

Please use simple words.

They no longer want to pay him the stupid money he was signed on. So handball it to someone else and give them a good pick in doing so.
