GWS pulled a dodgy with Melbourne back in 2012 by not bidding on Toumpas or Viney after getting a sweet trade for Jesse Hogan from the Dees.
In this instance though nothing has transpired between GWS and Brisbane which could encourage dodgy behaviour (unlike the Melbourne-GWS deal you mention). If GWS don't bid on him, it's a legitimate pass IMO.

Can't see why we cannot do a three way with Freo and GC

Dogs - F2 out, Lobb in
Suns - Sharp out, F2 in
Freo - Lobb out, Sharp in.

Probably the closet you will get to what most want. Dockers want Sharp and have no second round pick next year. They can only get one from us. May just end up being the deal in the end for all parties.
Because Peter "feather in my cap" Bell is an utter prick

They made a trade early on, sent GWS the pick 15. Very likely a handshake included.

Geelong get pick 7 and Bowes for a future 3rd.

Sickening.
Bowes' contract is heavily back ended and if they keep him they can't afford to sign both Rowell and Anderson in the next 12 months. Geelong are taking on his salary and getting pick 7 as a reward.

Ned Guy style, kicking the salary cap can down the road keeps biting clubs on the arse.
More baffling is how the hell Geelong can handle the salary dump. I can only assume by agreed retirements.
With incompetent list managers around - like whoever does that job at GCS - it is a great strategy to keep a fair bit of salary cap in reserve so you get can a reasonable player plus a top 10 pick for free. (Well not quite, you still have to pay the salary.) We were able to cash in with a quality player in Treloar but I suspect we are pretty close to maxed out now.

The problem with that strategy of keeping some cap space up your sleeve is of course that any side that already has a decent list has to commit pretty close to 100% of their cap to retaining the elite players on their list.

Except Geelong.
Reigning premiers and they pull in big name players year after year without ever attracting the interest of the AFL's salary cap police.

And yet we have people posting here saying that Geelong's common-knowledge rorting of the cap is a distraction from trade week and should be discussed in a separate thread.

It has everything to do with trade week. The AFL's two main strategies for equalisation are the draft and the salary cap ... and Geelong manages to rort both of them at once.

I like Sam being tough and even sending him to the PSD out of firm principle but what is this bs about planning future revenge on Brisbane? What are we, a jaded child? We should continue behaving professionally with all potential partners.

We shouldnt start pushing inequitable negotiation tactics because others are pathetic pricks.

Yeah but be honest. GWS traded up for a FORWARD. Zero chance they will bid on a mid and risk missing out on who they traded up for, whether there is a deal or not.

Then again, you never know with those stains. Remember how their excuse to bid on Darcy, was because "they wanted a forward, and they rated him" Only to end up drafting a midfielder with their pick? So full of sheet that club.

Like that game strategy someone mentioned earlier.

Lions will likely not have a pick inside 30 this year. They are totally committed to a bid regardless.

But yeh, would expect a bid at 2/3 at the latest from North otherwise very suss.

Ashcroft signed a r year deal with Brisbane already .. they're taking him wherever he lands .

If they colluded they better be smacked for it

Haha Brisbane supporters thinking they will advise Dunkley to go to the ND instead of the PSD and will trade into the draft with their F1 and F2 .. who the hell wants a late first and second

What makes that even more stupid is that some team would have to be foolish enough to give a top 10 pick before us.

Not a chance.

How much guts does Power have? How long does he leave it?

And he has the Lobb negotiations and that looks like going to the bell as well.

Personally I think we fold for 21 and future first and no doubt in current years I think we plot our revenge on a brisbane player.

A lot of pressure on Sammy in the next 24hrs. He hasn’t failed us yet.

Not a Brisbane player. All of their players. Not one of them safe or off-limits, especially the Victorian ones. We rip the heart out of their club.

Not revenge as such, just keeping the lines of communications open with all Bears players so they know who we are 😉

Can we at least bid on Fletcher? Especially with Ashcroft not going pick 1, someone's gotta make them pony up.
