Wouldn't be shocked if Dom is delisted and rookie drafted

I know Dogs are going have another crack at a Cat B player in the off season wither its a player from a cricket background or another team NGA player

How much do you think his field kicking and vision was critical to our decision to draft him? If his disposal was just so-so might we have picked a winger (like Cowan) or a midfielder or another small defender?

Everyone knew we needed more tall defenders but there were perhaps other options further down the draft or in the Rookie Draft or trading. That's a path we've taken quite a bit to pick up handy journeymen (Gardner, Keath etc) but we've always come up a bit short of the class we need there (compare them to the sort of players that have served other clubs well ... McGovern, Taylor, Lever, Stewart, etc). If you're marking everything in sight then maybe disposal is not quite as critical. However the need would have been heightened by Gardner's limited marking and Keath's disposal & vision shortcomings.

I'm all in for getting a side that's chock full of good kicks (on both feet) and players with vision. You don't need high possession counts if your DE% is consistently 80-90% and you end up with lots of score involvements. Players with both (eg Daniel) are gold.

We all pay lip service to the importance of disposal & vision but perhaps our recruiters lose sight of it at times when we have the opportunity to pick up discount players who simply rack up good numbers, who spoil well or have good closing speed.
We took Gardner as a forward, and initially played him as a forward though.

I don't watch enough VFL to refute anything that's been said on here re. Ginnivan, my only exposure to him at that level was when I took the kids to see the pies v Frankston a few weeks back. Pies won by 100-ish and the forwards filled their boots, someone scored six. Ginnivan didn't get much chance to score, but he harried and worked hard from what I saw. He also, probably more importantly, seemed to take the right/unselfish option even when they were 10+ goals up - trying to set up teammates rather than taking a low percentage shot at goal. It wasn't his best game by far, but I came away fairly impressed at the role he played.

That's a really small sample size obviously, and who knows if we are interested or he'd be interested in coming here. Maybe he wouldn't be a good fit so it's not worth it. But he's played well (sometimes very well) at AFL level and we don't really have small forwards bursting down the door to the seniors who can say that. I'd be fine with that pickup if it happened.

PS - Best thing to happen in that VFL game was when Ash Johnson beat a Frankston player on the wing, then showboated and showed him the ball as he ran away from him. He took a bounce and fumbled the ball, then got tackled and was done htb. Instant karma!

Surely not, there is so much deadwood to cut on this list Dom is genuinely talented, why wouldn’t we just give him a one year deal?

Would be flipping fuming at this decision tbh

He would be Re-Drafted as a Rookie nothing to be fuming about if the club want Down that path.

Yep, you get rid of a bloke that bleeds for the club, who pounded the turf after the 97 Prelim, who once was in tears on radio after we lost eight in row during the Rohde years. Yet we keep our $2 Shop jobs for mates panel of Spangher, Edge, Webb and Maddocks. Garbage.
How do you know we're keeping the rest? A lot of rumors about Webb heading back to WA.

Would be very surprised if we were targeting GinnIvan .
How many small forwards do we need to collect ?
Weightman
AJones
West
McNeil
Clarke

Agree totally

Develop the players you have noted above into the small forward we need.

Bedendo is the biggest myth on this board.
The longer he's injured, the better he gets

It’s such a s**t system that you have to make a call on assistants that far out.
Its a month before the end of the home and away season. If clubs haven't decided if they want to keep a player a month before season end, that is on the club. I think August is pretty reasonable in all honesty.

I like Bedendo but I wouldn’t be crushed if we delisted him.

Would be nice to rookie him again for sure, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he got another opportunity somewhere else as a delisted free agent.

Kid has played 2 games of AFL Footy wrong time to have a long term injury and be out of contract. Nothing to be upset about if he got delisted and Re-Drafted as a Rookie
That isn't what would upset me in isolation. If moving Bedendo to the rookie list is our biggest move to clear the injury list then I wouldn't be pleased.
If Roarke, O'brien and Crozier as well as the likely Bruce and Hannan all move on then it would be fine by me.

Based on physical traits I would definitely keep Fernando.

I guess we have to trust the club to make the judgement on his work ethic and character.

There would also have to be doubts on his ability to withstand the demands of playing afl based on recent history.

He seems not too dissimilar to Philapoo at the Saints and he was a top ten pick.

When he was drafted he was always seen as a slow burn now is the time to show that.

It’s throwing him into the open draft where yes someone else can take him before our rookie pick plus also as Mojo pointed out it means he becomes a free agent every single time he’s out of contract.

Considering there’s about 15 blokes we could delist before him unless we’re planning on turning over 12+ list spots it would be a shit decision
