It wouldn't shock me if the hold up on the deal was to allow the list management team a chance to land a big fish. Now that it's looking like one isn't coming this offseason, they might have frontloaded a significant portion of his salary to keep it open for 2026.

Or they’re confident they’ve got one coming and can feel confident re-signing for a certain contract structure 👀

I think they were trying to cause some buzz by being a bit ambiguous.

Didn’t really work when you have Cleary and Edmund saying he’s re-signed
 
Remember all of the breathless talking head panel shows, on-line think pieces and a tweets by AFLMedia types speculating as to whether or not Bont was looking around at other clubs. Even going as far as linking him to Collingwood. Because of course?

Those guys should be embarrassed, for being so publicly stupid.

When the obvious answer was always right in front of them. The Bont was never going anywhere and there was no need to rush a decision that was a foregone conclusion for a guy who has always bled RW&B.

I look forward to them all taking to social media and recanting their words whilst flogging themselves with a length of garden hose. As penance.

Mitch was always saying he wasn't leaving on podcasts and kept doing the what if cause there was nothing else to talk about
