I didn't that out of it - more that we are very serious about chasing Wilkie - but also:

“Wilkie is the priority but they will pivot if they get a no from him.”
If we consider Keath and Bruce, those deals were months in the making.
Our "pivot" seems like it will be a late maneuver.

We have upped out offer to 5 million for 4 years to Wilkie he's on about 750-800k currently at saints
To put this $1.25 million/yr into Tom Boyd dollars (comparing to his $1 million/yr in 2015)

It’s like if we’d offered Boyd $690k per year in 2015.

Or, Tom Boyd’s contract in 2026 terms would be the equivalent of $1.82 million.

Offering Wilkie $1.25 million, and as a result filling the clearest hole in our list, is still an absolute bargain. We’re in win-now mode. No ****ing around from the club, I like this offer

Love the aggression, one of the best full backs in the comp and will make JOD / Lobb better around him also, really hope we land him.

It's a lot of money for him to say no to getting towards the end of his career. Potentially about $1.6 million over the next four years (if he stayed on the same money he is on now for the same years). At least for the life of his current contract, 2 more years) it's about $800K more to move to the Dogs with another $2.4 million dollars guaranteed waiting for him. You can see why it would be hard for him to turn his back on even if he wants to stay at the Saints and be their next Captain etc...

Be a hard call to say no to that kind of pay rise at his age surely

I know it's the time of year when every player delisted from another club is floated as a player we should target however, I would happily take Kynan Brown after he was delisted by the Demons. He is only 20 and one I rated alot higher then most in his draft year.
If we used him as a defensive small forward I'd have him in ahead of both VDM and McNeil.

I have heard (different website) that we haven't been talking to Butts. We're leaving our Plan B run quite late.
Must we routinely stick to Tradition.

I understand that getting Wilkie can be seen as the missing piece for a premiership contending list so in that sense a comparison with Boyd might seem appropriate. We definitely need a top level key defender.

However:
  • Boyd was a #1 ND draft pick just 12 months earlier. Wilkie was a #9 rookie pick and debuted when he was 23 (but does have several years of demonstrated form).
  • Boyd was 19 with a likely 12-15 years of top level footy ahead of him. Wilkie is rising 30 with maybe 3-4 years of top level footy.
  • Boyd was a daunting 200cm - a colossus in those days for a KPF. Wilkie is undersized for a KPD (191cm) the same height as Coffield, Davidson and Walker (although no doubt chunkier than the latter two).
I don't buy the logic that he's a bargain because he's cheaper than Boyd in 2025 dollars. It's just a problematic comparison.

That said, I'm not knocking Wilkie and I'd love to have him on our list, even at the salary offer that's rumoured. He did get an AA blazer a couple of years ago after all, and it seems his form is still good.

And of course if he becomes a key part of a premiership side we'll be saying what we said about Boyd - that it was worth every penny - even if he disappears from the list a year or two later like Boyd did. We don't want our next flag to take another 60 years like the last one did.

We will still need to invest in other longer term KPD options though. Especially if Busslinger doesn't fulfil the promise of his high draft pick. Otherwise we'll be scrambling to find a KPD again in 3 years time.

Young got a better offer from Eagles so either stays at Tigers or heads west.
Dogs have approached the management of Butts but haven't made a formal offer yet as it depends on Wilkie’s decision, which is expected in the next two weeks so that we can put attention elsewhere if the play fails.
A few clubs offering Budarick deals of 3-4 years (dogs included), in the last two months suns have gone from no contract on the table to a one year deal and now up to a two year deal.
Bond is also one of interest as has been reported but he is focused on finals at this time and Crows very keen to keep him.

Zac Walker, JoD, Busslinger and (likely) Will Darcy.

We'll be ok for kids. We need a mature type to pay round 1 next year.

Bond is an excellent target. He has 200 gamer back pocket written all over him.

I’d offer a good 3 or 4 year deal to him. I’ve seen enough that he would slot in best 22 straight away.

We would have heard whispers somewhere from Wilkie's team by now, if this was any chance.

However, if he wanted to exit, the deal would have to be seriously considered by the Saints.

History says holding a player who wants out rarely ends well for the club.

What needs to happen now is for him to nominate us, then the heat gets turned right up.

100% he just wants them to give him the bag. And the time is now for him to strike because the Saints would look like A grade morons spending up on C & D graders then having Wilkie, Marshall and Windhager demand trades.

Saints supporters celebrating their already contracted ‘future captain’ gouging them for an extra $400k a season to not leave them.

The constant "future captain" I see the Saints supporters bandying around is hilarious, has anyone else told them he's 30 next year?

Young up and comer

2 games as sub the only chance they gave him. And he saved the game in one of them

The unsaid part about how their current captain has been so rubbish they’re frothing to bin him lol

Nasia… hmmm…. Rowan Marsh… ahhh… Marcus Wind… oh…

I genuinely can’t think of who would even be in the running if Wilkie left. Who are their good players that don’t have one foot out the door?

If they were good, they wouldn’t be playing at St Kilda

Jack Macrae? Or, um... Zac Jones?! 😄
