If Buku plays most of next season in the VFL no one will be offering pick 40. It’ll be late pick/DFA territory.

If we don’t see him playing round one I’d probably take it as long as we have some talks in mind in the draft. He seemed well out of favour late in the season.
We’ll already be getting a tall in the draft in Will Darcy, a fresh draftee isn’t going to fix the backline though even as just a backup.

We need someone ready to play AFL whether that’s as a first choice or a backup option and if none are available then we can’t afford to lose Buku.

Ive always liked Hustwaite i think he has the potential to be like Ned Long and hit the ground running at a second club. I feel like the Hawks were too focused on the lack of pace with both of them.
Now Worpel has gone though there could be a more natural spot for him.
He really is very very slow though.

I’d be happy to pay some of Marra’s salary (considering we have plenty of cash right now) if it meant a better draft pick. But doesn’t sound like we are even interested in that.
Forget about that. He should repay some of the salary from the past season.

I'd honestly ask the question of any of the first four there, damaging players at Box Hill who can't break into a stacked Hawks midfield. Hustwaite in particular is a physical beast and Butler is pretty good coming off of a flank.
And Mitchells got game. A ready made JJ replacement

Relax. There is NO proof that Sanders even wants out. Even then we can't just TRADE people. It was a pissy take by a "journalist", saying that Adelaide asked about someone. Literally something all clubs do about many players in the league and our fans are overreacting. How ground breaking.

Also remember, we wanted more for Smith and Dunkley. But no one wanted to pay it, so we were always going to get less regardless the posturing, and no one wanted Jamarra last year. Can't blame the club for those. Not like we have a crystal ball for the future either. Hindsight is an easy cop out.

And I am on the keep Sanders bandwagon. Trading him out because he doesn't look like the next Bont, when our midfield are old as f**k. Will set us back again, unless we got Butters. Even then I'd keep him given we'd have zero first round picks for the next 100 years and no access to the top tier mids once TAS comes in and takes them all. It will be the 2030s before we get a decent first round draft pick again.

We will need to start drafting like Geelong and finding late round gems to keep being competitive the next few years.

Who cares if he doesn't look like being an A grader. He will still be a clear cut best 22 player at worst and that's all we need. Not his fault we have barely played him in his position of strength since we drafted him. Richards looked like an even worst bust in his first few seasons playing forward, and took time to break out once moved back to the back line.

The amount of lack of patience from our fans, and lack of respect for the fact that no development rate is the same regardless of the round you were drafted in is astounding at times. Half of decent current players would have been delisted years ago if fans had their way.

I'm very relaxed thanks, and this has nothing to do with impatience of Sanders not turning into Bont or anything like that.

I understand we can't just TRADE people, you need to look deeper into this stuff than just surface level. This isn't the Crows just randomly asking about one of our players with no knowledge of it by Sanders or his manager. There's a reason that he is one of only like 2 or 3 from his draft year who hasn't extended his contract yet. The interest with the Crows would be at worst mutual and something that his side may have sounded out. Even if that falls through, he is a VERY strong chance to leave for Tassie in a few years time also, which we have no idea what the compensation will look like still. Edmund saying that Sanders "isn't in love with the Dogs" and Cal Twomey linking him with Adelaide isn't just lazy journalists making stuff up, there is definitely something there.

We aren't Geelong or Hawthorn etc obviously, we really need to be maximising our assets and not continually losing valuable talents for 50 cents on the dollar. We don't know what value Smith could have really brought back the year prior if we had sat down with him and had a mature conversation, "look we understand you aren't looking to extend your contract here and may leave next year, let's meet with a few clubs of your choice and get a better deal now for us and you there a year earlier". It doesn't really happen much in the AFL unfortunately, but it's where we probably need to get to, if we want to maximise our assets and continue to compete with the big teams who land all of these players and get the big free agents.

I have a ton of patience, this isn't a patience thing so you've missed the mark there with me. I'm all aboard the Buss train and think he needs more time and development and happy to wait on him, ditto with a lot of other guys on the list. This is listening to the external noise regarding a player and maximising the value now by bringing in a young best 22 KPD upgrade in Butts a future 1st to help with the Butters pursuit and potentially another pick in this draft to add more talent.

It’s going to be Frost for sure.
Why?

The club has publicly stated numerous time now that unless a player will improve our side then we'll just go with what we have. If our only choice is a 32 year old journeyman as coverage then we may as well have kept the 34 year old journeyman that we had on the list. And we didn't do that.
