Can't see him being let go for a 3rd
I can, I'd like a second but I think that's expecting a bit too much. We were very fortunate to get that for Caleb Daniel, I suspect an early third round pick is about right. I think this plus a 2nd rounder gets Butts done (assuming he nominates us).

Poulter might get an extra year with Buku requesting a trade. They were both competing for that 3rd tall role in different stages of the year.
Honestly would sooner bring up Will Lewis from the VFL as the backup forward. Yes he is mature but so was James Podsiadly

They're offering him a 4 year contract

I cant see the point in keeping him.

To hang onto him purely as a depth option is as counterproductive for his game as it is for our list management. Especially in here where its a whorey old trope that we hang onto guys like Khamis for far too long.

I cant imagine a space where the club would want to stifle the career of a guy that they took as a CatB rookie who clearly doesn't have a position in our best 22. Id imagine that this will be one of the easiest and quickest trades that take place early in trade week.

One that will in reality probably land at a pick swap that is painless for all parties. I suspect that will mean a 3rd round upgrade for us.

We shall see.

Why wouldn't you hold him as depth?

We would still likely get a 3rd for him next year anyway,

Unlike a McComb McNeil Will Hayes type he is acceptable at his role at AFL level

As simple as goodwill with the player and with clubs we actually trade well with.

That role can be easily filled with a number of options internally or externally

Unpopular thing
But Dogs are fine with Marra coming back for 2026 if no Trade is worth it

Sorry VD but I strongly doubt this is true. You've always had a strong Marra bias and you've usually been wrong when making predictions about what will happen with him. Not having a crack at you because you're a great member of this board but I don't trust your judgement on this topic. I'd put my house on Marra being somewhere other than the Dogs next year. Although I'm sure we are posturing that we would welcome him back just to try to get some trade value somewhere.

Because unlike McComb and Hayes who each spent a mere two years on the list. Khamis has been at the club for 7.

Thats seems an appropriate amount of time to cement a place in the 22. Even for somebody coming from as far back as Khmais did. If you they haven't by then, its long past time to turn the spot over to somebody who might.

Another year on the list and he'd likely be a DFA.

Regardless of bigfooty posturing the deal will probably land at a swap for a of 3rd rounders.

For the same reason teams keep picking up BTC tall reliable depth isn't easy to come by,

Buku wouldn't be delisted next year however I am sure he would leave for opportunity

They are offering 600k for 4 years he is contracted if he wasn't I would agree it would be for a 3rd

EDIT:
Their 2nd is also Brisbane's which is close enough to a 3rd now anyway

I like Buku and I genuinely hope he does well at Carlton if that's indeed where he ends up.

If he does succeed, I don't think we'll be any worse off because you could easily argue he wouldn't get a game in our forward line regardless.

VD and Marra is like you and Biggsy back in the day, BigFloppa 😉

Personally, I'd rather our tall depth be of the developing type. Like Croft, Walker or Sellwood.

What's the difference? He'd be out of contract and would be unlikely to get a new one with us.

This is why the club won't stand in the way of a guy who they took a shot on as a Cat B rookie. If reports of Carlton offering him 4 years @$600k are correct.

Khamis is exactly the kind off guy who needs to be turned over.

Given Carlton have Hawthorn's 2nd round pick, which is currently Pick 34, and not their own I think that would be a fairly reasonable offer for Buku. Do we think our 2nd, currently 28, and 34 would be enough for Butts if that trade happens?
