Gotta give those poor saints fans some shiny new toys to keep up the hope of getting out of no man’s land
Even at the price of causing a rift not only potentially in the playing group (future captains being paid the same as guys not in their original sides best 23) but also causing a disconnect between those behind the scenes focused on draft vs trade.

It would be pretty hilarious if Wilkie and marshall do leave after saints splashing cash on all these c grade players
Fairly certain they want Marshall to leave to unlock a Flanders/McKenzie trade

At least I hope they do, because if their plan is to keep him as a forward then they're insane

I don’t know much about anything but I would imagine all preliminary conversations are happening with player’s managers and direct contact between coaches and potential recruits would only occur once a higher level of interest from a player has been reached. What we do know is that all evidence suggests that Bevo is able to quickly make solid and genuine connections with prospective players, and this is a powerful tool for us.

No chance of that,

Geelongs pick will get Marshall but it's ****ing useless to on trade as it'll end up mid 20s

Yeah I agree that he seems to have the gift of the gab but if I was a defender on the market the dogs wouldn't interest me all that much based on how bevo has continually coached over the past few seasons. Being a defender in our squad is a lot more stressful than most over sides based on our game plan and defensive structure. Not very enticing in my opinion.

That’s been my concern since the season finished too. That said, I’d imagine there’ll be changes made to the structure and defensive system, and any conversations would allude to that.

This is a genuine consideration for prospective trades. But it's also the great unknown for us as supporters.

There seem to be two camps.

One says our defence is weak because we have no decent one-on-one KPDs so getting some A grade defenders of that ilk will fix it.

The other camp says that our defence is weak because of the high press we play. Probably also the zone defence too. In particular it's the way our back half gets exposed if the midfield isn't dominant and lets the opposition get easy line breaks. If that is correct then getting some A grade defenders (a lockdown small included) will only make a marginal difference. And it's why prospective traded players might be wary.

As usual it's probably a bit of both. While I'd love to get an A-grade KPD I'd also love us to adjust the system regardless of the personnel. That might tell us a fair bit more about what is needed to develop a premiership capable defence.

All clubs employ a defensive press (which becomes a form of sustained attack) so I'm not saying we dispense with it altogether. Just that we recognise where it breaks down and ease it off a bit, as well as improve our defensive capabilities between the arcs. I think our defence holds up reasonably well when the play has shifted to the D50 and we have all our players back. It's more the goals we leak when the opposition breaks from their back half or the centre.

If all of Butters, Wilkie, and Butts are gettable this year then we'd have to have a high value player of our own involved in it (as well as lots of picks). Would people consider Sanders or Freijah (or other) in this scenario? I might if it meant landing all three.
Sanders yes if it lands Butters only

Freijah no chance

Sanders and Freijah, absolutely not. I’d be packing Crofts bag though if there was interest.

Sanders I'd be willing to trade but I wouldn't trade Freijah for anyone in the comp. Freijah could legitimately be better than Butters over the next 10 years.

Hynes, Croft and Dolan are another three with currency whom I could accept trading for Butters/Wilkie.

I do find it a little odd that Saints fans aren’t more sceptical of their list manager recruiting his own son on significantly more money than other teams were offering. I suppose time will tell with it but if we get to this time next year and he’s only played ten mediocre games for them, surely questions will be asked?
Why would they be they tho? SoS said he had no part in the selection process and everything was completely above board. It was pure coincidence that St.Kilda offers his son >$200k more than the dogs and pies to join the team he just happens to be list manager of.

So Im not sure why anybody would question him on it. Just like how Donald Trump is completely at arms length from all of the money that hes made since returning to the Paedodency.

Nothing to see here. Just shut up and move along.

The enjoyable part is they genuinely think we are "salty" because they overpaid for JSOS and can't work out that it's going to be the reason their team implodes

The really enjoyable part of all this is that regardless of whether or not the Wilkie trade happens. Is the amount of schadenfreude that Im getting watching on as they work their way through all 5 stages of grief pumped straight into my eyeballs each day until the trade does or doesn't happen.

They are without doubt the dumbest supporters in the game. A group who are always in desperate search for a saviour to take them away from their awful life choice of supporting St.Kilda. This makes them child like and easy prey for carnival hucksters like Ross the Boss and SoS to string them along with shiny objects.

Would we really have signed Treloar on for another year and be shopping around for another mid this trade period if we were confident in Sanders coming on?
Yes. Clubs always have to maintain good stocks of quality midfielders. You don't know want will happen so you need depth. Look what happened to Melbourne when Petracca and Oliver unexpectedly fell by the wayside.

That said, I'm not sure the club is confident that Sanders will become an A grader. I'm not. Useful player though.

The SoS love is my personal favourite part,

Given what he did to GWS's list then to Carltons you'd think they'd have worked out by now he's a fairly shite list manager

My favourite was a few weeks ago when SEN did a 5 minute segment talking about the JSOS signing and how his father removed himself from the process to maintain independence. Right.
