Jacob Blight, the Richmond defender who got delisted is being looked at by Pies.

Makes sense. Don’t think they have any backups

Charlie Dean was their backup this season and was delisted, he looked a long way off the level

A very well needed one.
Absolutely. But it's clear to anybody paying attention that regardless of the outside noise and this places lustfulness for every single available player. That we have a strategy of bringing in exactly this kind of player every year.

Always enjoy the angst with those posters for whom the club can do no right at this time if the year and are not serious.

Why, because trading is yet to even start and is 2 weeks away from finishing.

Last season we traded in the player without doubt in the top 3 trades in the year. We also drafted players in who have shown a hell of a lot already.

This year development is crucial with our younger group and we have strengthened our coaching group already with 1 more likely.

The post a d pre season has many different phases, this just being the first of them.

If we are using first round picks make sure it is for quality, better than we have by a margin or we don't improve. Be cognisant of changes for F&S and NGA coming up when looking at future firsts.

One player rarely moves the dial, collective improvement always has. We are close and were alot closer this year than last .

We need to improve our list via all mechanisms like we did last year and develop over pre season better than last year and we have a genuine chance
I thought this year the team missed the eight, had a glaring weakness in defence and had an awful record against the top eight, you must have been watching the side play in some sort of alternate reality. I recall last year the team being number one in the league for points against, the single most important stat in footy and dominating a number of quality teams heading into the finals. The team shouldn't be just a genuine chance next year it should have been this year and last year and the years before it. When you have the equal most top 100 players in the league with the back to back premiers, you have to be failing dismally in some areas to pull this past season off.

I know nothing about Budarick. He's essentially a Duryea replacement?

You’d hope so. That’s what he was drafted as. Played as a defensive forward this year

Hasn’t played many games. 55 all up, 19 this season. Did an ACL in 2021 and again in 2022

Not a sure thing too make it but worth looking at. Will be interesting what his trade value is. Hopefully he can lock down that back pocket position

Budarick’s a bit younger than the usual 28-30 year old we get.

Here is a fun fact Connor Budarick is the first Ex Gold Coast player that we have recruited in our mans side. We already have a few in the woman’s team

We always seem to get fringe defenders. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that more than 50% of our recruits under Bevo have been defenders.

Hamling, Biggs, Suckling, Duryea, Trengove, Keath, Bramble, Jones, JOD, Gardiner (although taken as a fwd), Coffield and now Budarick. I'm probably missing a few.

nb: I'm not suggesting all those players are fringe. Certainly not. But all defenders, majority can probably be considered fringe at the time we got them.

Happy with Budarick. Can slot in at either end. Happy to play him down back and give us depth in that area.

I’d still keep JJ for another year irrespective.
Can he kick a sausage roll like his father?

Cliff notes on budarick please

On paper doesn't look too great on his 25 season. What should I be excited about here, I need to go talk shit elsewhere that he's the best bargain buy of the trade period

He’s been played out of position all year so his 25 stats won’t be great. He’s a small defender who got pushed out by the recruitments of Nobel and Rioli. So got played as a small forward most of the year.

Gives us that lockdown defender for shutting down oppositions small forwards
