NWM, Owens, Wilson, Phillipou (who is ok, not brilliant), Windhager, King (if fit). Bit early to tell with Tauru and Traviglia but they seem pretty good.

It’s a solid young core, but no where near the talent where I think these additions will help them get anywhere meaningful.

Definitely don’t hate the strategy but definitely hate Saints fans acting like they’re a destination club .

What that club who shall not be named is just like Essendon. 'Won' trade week for 20 years and where did it get them.

No doubt Flanders will be paid double what other clubs would have paid.

It might get them to the edge of the eight but what will be great for all of us will be the fallout at the other end when the cap squeeze and fire sale happens, because I don't buy all this paying 95 per cent and paying 105 per cent now BS. They are going all in so it's finals or bust for the next year or two then the real fun begins and we feed on the carcass.

Be funny if the saints go past us next year with all these jabs at their strategy

The league is so stacked against smaller clubs good on them for having a shot
They might do well next year but it's a few years time that it'll come to a head.

NAS will want even more cash or leave.

Their good younger players will be asking for a share of the money too as they come up for re signing.

I'm not sure why we spend so much time lampooning StKilda in this thread. If we sat in the middle of the ladder for a generation we'd also be trying something radical to change our fortunes. I think the Saints heirarchy has decided that enough is enough and are prepared to buy in as much talent as they can to take another step. We have plenty to concentrate on with our club to get our own house in order rather than cricitise another smaller club like the Saints.

Their supporters base is their issue. They're acting like complete ********* on here. I have never seen so many of a single supporter base get banned but that is what is happening.

Must be all that success going to their heads... or severe lack of.

Sanders will go home to Tassie. They need local talent to legitimise their start up team/club. It will definitely happen. You can’t blame the kid at all, he will be set up for life, and be part of history. And it may be a good thing that we know now. Only one player per club can be poached, so that means Frejiah or Darcy or Croft or Hynes and Dolan, it won’t be.

It will mean that we made a dumb decision to blow a lot of draft picks on training up a mid and then losing him just as he is about to pay off on that investment.

the opportunity cost was at least Murphy Reid.

Saints flogs calling our pursuit of Wilkie as a "debacle ":

"
Bains is weak and shafted Chris Grant because Grant disagreed withn Beveridge.
Beveridge is way more powerful at that club than Lyon will ever be at the Saints.
The Wilkie debacle was completely instigated by Beveridge who ran roughshod over Power.
When it wrnt belly up as Power said it would, don't be surprised if he gets blamed."

Lol morons

What exactly do they think the negative impact is for us? We had a crack at a player and didn’t get him, leaving us exactly where we would have been anyway except now a rival club has had to eat up more of their already tight cap space on a player they already had locked away anyway.

I hate St Kilda and hope they burn to the ground as much as the next guy but I think it's too early to criticise their strategy to this extent. They've clearly got the cash there. They've identified holes in their list and have gone out and filled them with mostly B or above grade players. That's a big short-term win and you can work out the future later.

Are these players enough to move the needle in the way they hope? I'm not convinced. I don't rate Aleer, don't think TDK is a meaningful upgrade on the outgoing Marshall, think Flanders is fine but limited, and think Ryan/Silvagni have longevity concerns (although like the fit of both). But gee, wouldn't it be nice to be sitting here as Dogs fans thinking, right, we've got two best 23 KPDs, one best 23 mid, one best 23 ruck, and one best 23 small forward to slot in round one next year? There are pros to the strategy for sure. Only time will tell.

B graders at most. Ryan is finished, Silvagni has played 28 games in 4 years, Aleer is shit
Flanders won't stop that midfield bring curb stomped

LOL I wonder what they think about Ross the Boss he basically owns that club. Anyway I would personally stop going onto that thread let them talk rubbish

Including Max Hall I just don’t think that’s enough of a young core that you can go all in on like they have.

They had very little talent between 22 (Wanganeen-Milera) and 29 (Wilkie). Pretty much Higgins and an always injured Max King. I don’t mind Sharman and Stocker either and Hall (23) had an impressive first season. The rest on the list are bad, injured or both and considering historically the 23-29 range is probably the peak of a footballers career (players are playing better for longer lately), it doesn’t give you a great chance of success

We’ll see what the likes of Flanders and Aleer cost them in a trade but I think the fact that they are paying such high prices for free agents is an admission that they needed to target players in that age group but do not want to trade away their picks because they still need to add to that young core

Flanders will cost pick 7.

Aleer costing anything is an overpay

Do not want to be negative nelly but again our improvement needs to come from in. A number of teams who finished above us look liked getting some big names in the trade and we are going to get not a lot.

We are pretty good at identifying talent in the draft unfortunately we have lost a few of our star picks for not a lot.
The issue is, the position we need to improve in. The cupboard is bare. A few teams lack decent defenders, and there is rarely decent ones avaibale still in their prime. We have shaken the tree on a few, but they are contracted. Our hands are tied.
