I come in peace

Just a correction - Nick Murray is more injury prone than Butts who has been quite durable throughout his career

Butts is AFL quality - has amazing closing speed, tough and disciplined. He’s not an intercept player but will take and lock down the opposition key forward - and very rarely gets multiple goals kicked on him

TBH - there is not much difference between Butts, Keane and Murray and if Butts didn’t cop his punctured lung he would have help Murray out of the team

Personally I think Butts and a F1 for Sanders is good business by both clubs

Hope you don’t mind my comments

Cheers
WTF... I feel dirty because I actually agree with a Crows supporter. I'm getting soft in my 40s.

If the rumours have any substance, I’d be interested in why Sanders would be willing to sign a multi-year with Adelaide but not with us.

Probably because he wants to play midfield and has a better line with the Crows than he does with us. Playing for a good team, nice situation at Adelaide, I can see the appeal.

Like many young players. They back themselves to break out and push for a bigger contract sooner, by signing short term. Than being stuck on a longer term one being underpaid should they reach heights sooner than expected.

And Adelaide could be willing to offer more money than he is on now, enough to persuade any young player to consider. They may also be able to offer him his preferred role more than we can right now.

There's a hell of a lot of extrapolation going on based on a question that was probably asked of dozens of players, their management or club over the last few days and weeks.

Have you guys bothered to consider Sanders disposition as to whether or not he wants to go to Adelaide as you dream up your trade scenarios? Theres little incentive for him to move to Adelaide when he can just play out his contract and then go home to Tasmania and make history by playing in their inaugural team.

We constantly bemoan the lack of loyalty in players whenever they even hint at leaving the club. Yet everybody seems quick to move on players if they reckon they can be used as a piece of a bigger puzzle.

I would be stunned if Sanders / his manager weren't aware of this Adelaide interest, and at the least it isn't something he is considering.

These things often get leaked for a reason and I imagine the Crows approached Sanders at some point over the last few weeks and potentially even the Dogs too and inquired about the possibility.

Ryley gets the benefit though if the trade doesn't come to fruition, he can claim he had no knowledge and is happy at the Dogs etc.

On a serious note, there's a bloke named Elijah Scoble in WA, only 20 and was in the WAFL team of the year, plus third in his team's B&F behind two former AFL players. Don't know anything much about him but his name came up when I was looking around.

Update on this bloke - we could probably sneak him in by just saying he’s Michael Sellwood

Wonder if the Sanders thing is a bit of tit for tat media play. We asked about Butts, hung up the phone because the price was too high and got on the front foot putting out that news. Adelaide didn’t like it and have leaked Sanders interest. Wouldn’t be surprised

Think the Sanders play is evidence that the Crows see Butters coming our way this year.

I think it’s just that the Crows desperately need a midfielder and see Sanders as someone with potential who can’t crack our midfield rotation.

They’ve found a reason why he may want to leave like we did with Wilkie and his contract.

Whats with all this Sam Darley talk? Thought we delisted him years ago

Sanders best attribute is his kicking for goal. He kicked some big goals for us this year when he was playing in that HFF role.

If Sanders + our 1st this and next gets us butters and Butts you make that trade.

On trade the Crows F1 to Port

“G’day mate!”
“Oh hey Cal”
“How’s things so far, any plans on some midfield depth?”
“Just thrown a few lines out, asked a few questions”
“Interesting. Asked the Pies about Daicos haha?”
“Haha, nah. Did ask if the Dogs would consider Sanders if he wants some more midfield time haha”
“Can I put that one out there?”
“Yeah go for it mate. Haven’t had any serious discussions with the dogs or spoken to the player or anything like that”.

Sam Power doesn’t operate unprofessionally

Interesting comment from Sam Edmund re Sanders. Cornes said he’s not sure the Dogs are in love with Sanders. Edmund said he’s not sure if Sanders is in love with us either.
I get that vibe as well, from both parties. It's unfortunate but the reality is drafting high calibre midfielders was always going to be a risk given the midfield we had when we drafted Sanders. We've made moves with trading out Jack Macrae and I assume it made sense to draft Ryley because we knew we were losing Bailey Smith, but perhaps didn't see Joel Freijah and Ed Richards becoming the midfield studs they have become.

I'm not in the camp that we "gave up too much" for Ryley, I just think he's a victim of a series of unfortunate (for him) events.

I still see a 250 gamer in Sanders without a doubt. I'm just not sure what level he actually gets to.

There's every chance he becomes a Darcy Parish 30 disposal a week midfielder but they certainly aren't hard to find across the competition. He's the comparison I see the most when Sanders plays.
