Agree, if we can’t bring in Wilkie or Butts, move on. No point in chasing Aleer who isn’t an upgrade on what we already haveLiking what I’m hearing personally. Absolutely no point in bringing in players that won’t move the needle for us. May as well hit the draft and try to bring in elite talent that way before Tassie comes in & compromises it further.
devo we didnt have a crack at including him with the JUH trade not sure why we are going for pick 6 in aheavily compromised draft this yearAinsworth off to the Blues, should now see the Khamis trade move a little faster as their next priority.

So posters who understand the basic concept that to improve the team you need to bring in players that actually do that, and for that to happen they have to firstly be available or if not available will to break a contract and have there Club willing to do that trade, of which there are zero fitting that category as A Grade KPD's are as rare as hens teeth. Therefore the next option is to develop what you have and adjust your game plan accordingly.Last year we had Jones and Duryea coming off insanely good seasons (even if Jones slowed down a little towards the end of 24’).
We had Fridge who was showing real promise down there as well.
Jones allowed JOD to play second fiddle and Lobb to just roam as a quick rangy interception player.
Lobb is not the number one guy. I repeat. Lobb is not the number one guy. We tried that this year and he was found out big time, specially during games where our midfield fell asleep. JoD is also not the number one guy. People are also forgetting that we drafted Buss as an intercept defender as at the time that’s what we were crying out for.
So between our “best season defence” where we had Jones, Duryea and Fridge who are now all gone from the backline, we have incredibly quickly devolved into having a defence that’s only better than North and West Coast.
It was very very clear halfway through this season that we needed not only a game play change but a change in personal, hence the revolving deck chairs of defenders and zero settled lineup. We should have been working on Plan A through Z for bringing in people we needed, instead SoS used us to get a huge contract from Daddy, plan B was a contracted future-Captain and there is no C.
But continue to be happy with being stuck between 8-12 on the ladder.
I’m not.
I don't understand the interest in pick 6 either, I'd rather keep our first and use our other assets that would be required to get up to 6 to either get our second pick higher or move into next year.devo we didnt have a crack at including him with the JUH trade not sure why we are going for pick 6 in aheavily compromised draft this year
Don’t despair. There’s always a DFA or rookie somewhere to keep our defensive acquisition strategy consistent.cool, so we are backing in our current key defenders and not chasing anyone else because “for depth we have the vfl key defender of the year” (notice how he didn’t say the name)
See you all in 2027 as I’m officially writing off 26. We will continue to have the exact same problems we do this season with even less depth to cover our defence.
Pathetic.

Really!!!
Some brief notes from the interview
- Positive initial talks on Budarick - Jamarra hasn’t put in a trade request.
- Our picks could be used in a trade if there is a mutually beneficial deal.
- Sanders is rated really highly and is much loved
- We shut down the Crows interest pretty quickly
- Didn’t really comment on his extension but said we are focused on keeping him long term
- Initial talks with Carlton on Buku but we value his services and he’s contracted, so the pick/offer has to reflect that.
- Key back is an area we want high end talent but we haven’t be chasing everyone. Reagan again talks about JoD and Buss having upside.
- Noted we had a VFL team of the year defender on the list
- Midfield is still a position we are looking for but might not be for this trade period
- For now it seems like it’s Buku, Budarick and the draft
- We’re not pursuing Aleer
- Butters is a contracted player and we’ve admired him for a long time. We’d be there if something happened short term but time to let that go.
- Some talk about Will Darcy saying he has a lot of developing to do but has good attributes
We finished 2 wins away from the team that finished 3rd and won the flag with Darcy/Bont missing over a month of footy each and our largest loss under 4 goalsDon’t despair. There’s always a DFA or rookie somewhere to keep our defensive acquisition strategy consistent.
Seriously though, another middle finish between 6-10 seems pretty likely and we will then be told as fans not to clap mediocrity![]()
No, just have a plan to attract someone gettable (e.g. Tylar Young). We went for the 1% shot at Wilkie then asked a half hearted question of Butts.Do you want the club to pluck a readily available key position defender out of thin air?
yea at first i thought it would be in a play for butters but now it just feels useless especially if this draft is as bad as they are saying so not sure what the gameplan is hereI don't understand the interest in pick 6 either, I'd rather keep our first and use our other assets that would be required to get up to 6 to either get our second pick higher or move into next year.
Young isn't any better then what we have thats the pointNo, just have a plan to attract someone gettable (e.g. Tylar Young). We went for the 1% shot at Wilkie then asked a half hearted question of Butts.
Saints are having a real crack at SdK - where are we?
Whos that other club that we always moan about “Always being in contention” because they ignore the draft and throw insane deals and picks at players of need to keep them in constant contention? The same club that has won a grand final in the last 5 years, who appeared this year, and several prelims? The same club that’s throwing out 3 first round picks for a contracted player at another club for a position they need? I can’t quite put my finger on that club…So posters who understand the basic concept that to improve the team you need to bring in players that actually do that, and for that to happen they have to firstly be available or if not available will to break a contract and have there Club willing to do that trade, of which there are zero fitting that category as A Grade KPD's are as rare as hens teeth. Tylar Young is a significantly better FB than anyone we currently have. 7th in the comp for average one on one contests among defenders.Young isn't any better then what we have thats the point
And if they don't get SDK then they're at the same level we were with Wilkie
For me, it’s not how many games we lost, it’s more how we lost when we did that has me more concerned. We finished 2 wins away from the team that finished 3rd and won the flag with Darcy/Bont missing over a month of footy each and our largest loss under 4 goals
We aren't that far off
Tylar Young was a long shot aswell, hard to compete with a return home and a return to players/coaches that he already has relationships with. No, just have a plan to attract someone gettable (e.g. Tylar Young). We went for the 1% shot at Wilkie then asked a half hearted question of Butts.

I rate the players available at the suns pick similarly to those available at our pick so unless we are deadset on one rather then happy to pick out of the one or two that fall it seems redundant.yea at first i thought it would be in a play for butters but now it just feels useless especially if this draft is as bad as they are saying so not sure what the gameplan is here
And we did last year. No, just have a plan to attract someone gettable (e.g. Tylar Young). We went for the 1% shot at Wilkie then asked a half hearted question of Butts.

If we still have the same game plan, we will still have the same results.Biggest loss was 22 points.
Won 14 games.
Next year we will have:
No Jamarra sideshow
Treloar and Weightman to play more than a few games between them.
Young players with another pre season under their belt.
Fitness boss able to build on players program in his second pre season.
Lots of coaches began with us last pre season who are now embedded.
There is lots of reasons to be positive about 2026
we finished 9th..... we conceded 90 to 100+ in like 10 of our games, we arnt doing anything to improve our list.We finished 2 wins away from the team that finished 3rd and won the flag with Darcy/Bont missing over a month of footy each and our largest loss under 4 goals
We aren't that far off
He only played 7 games so whilst is a good average isn't enough dataTylar Young is a significantly better FB than anyone we currently have. 7th in the comp for average one on one contests among defenders.
Perfect age as he'd give us time for JoD and Buss to develop.
I don't want May, so it looks like we'll be doing very little this trade period.
How are we not?we finished 9th..... we conceded 90 to 100+ in like 10 of our games, we arnt doing anything to improve our list.
we arnt far off? sure but we arnt doing things to bridge that gap and other clubs will improve, gold coast and freo will get better, st kilda will rise, sydney will be back as a force especially if they get curnow, Hawks, Cats, Pies, Brissy all will be there again, Crows will do well
yes we arnt far off but alot of other clubs are improving and our record against them was dreadful
They did have a crack and wanted him as part of a marshall trade, they didn't want cats picks in the 20s. At the mention of SDK being involved in a trade Cats left the table completely and shifted to Curnow.Saints are having a real crack at SdK - where are we?
isnt it like 5 of the top 10 are like academy/father sonsTylar Young was a long shot aswell, hard to compete with a return home and a return to players/coaches that he already has relationships with.
