Coffield should be the first one delisted. His body isn't up to it and when he does play, looks slow and terrible.

We're much better off handing that list spot to a Derksen or Frost type on a short term deal. They might not pan out but Coffield sure as hell hasn't.

It might sound harsh but he's not a positive asset to have on the list in any form.
Agree on that but again him and JJ are different players

Poor form not to get a send off game for JJ. Should’ve been kept on as a rookie at the very least.

Coff / Poulter should be delisted ahead of him. (Perhaps they have also been cut)
He played round 24, did you want to keep him on the list another season just for a send off?

If he isn't picked up by another club, the AFL should allow long serving players to come on towards the end of a pre-season game at Whitten Oval and get a proper send off.

JJ can come on in the last quarter, get a few kicks and show a bit of dash before being chaired off.

I think that JJ still has more football left in him and will probably be offered a contract somewhere. He just doesn't have a place in a side that already has too many overtly offensive smalls in the back half. Somebody was always going to have to make room for Budarick to play a more defensive role and it wasn't going to be Dale or Bramble.

No reason why he can’t, can be a train on player, we played Brew and Crossley against Essendon.

Think he is more valuable in 2026 than any rookie we would add in this draft. Personally.
That's a valid opinion to hold, but I was more asking about your point that it was "poor form" not to give him a send off which is a different topic to whether he's still deserving of a spot next year or not.

The club determined he's not required, so a send off wasn't possible - particularly when he was in the team in the final round rather than languishing in the reserves.

Budarick will start and then there’s Sellwood and potential Jaques (depending where the team sees him) for depth.

Bramble went past JJ on form as well.

Having three half backs that can’t defend was an issue last year.

More making the point if he was retained as a rookie (which was my preference) he would ideally get a send off which I believe he deserves (if possible), sometimes that’s not to be. Which I guess, is this case.

Agree that there are others that would likely take his spot next year (all things going well), just think he would’ve been worth keeping for one more for a mature back up option at the very least.

Understanding list spots are tight though.

Also wouldn’t be surprised if JJ and Jones thought they could more consistent game time somewhere else and wanted to take a chance.

Hoping we get someone who can push Bramble for his spot. Lachie has been fine, got him for free and he has definitely outplayed his wage. But he has been locked into a spot in the starting team since day 1, never dropped and the sub only once I believe. No one else has really pushed him though for the spot, hope that changes this year.

Why they play completely different roles
What role does Coffield play? Small that's too slow or big that's not strong enough? He doesn't have a role. It's a shame because you can see he's still got the ability that meant he was a top 10 pick, but his body has cooked him.

JJ played 16 games last year, I'd imagine he still has a place on the list over Nick.

Also left out:

Tackles Lobb 1.6 May 0.8, Pressure Acts Lobb 7.4 May 4.6, Spoils Lobb 6.2 May 5.3, Contested Marks Lobb 1.3 May 1.1

Again shows how poor May performed this year on the actual defensive side of the game because his body has failed him

So let me get this straight.

According to you, May supposedly performed poorly this year because our best defender (who everyone thinks had a pretty good year) had slightly better numbers in a few secondary statistical categories, even though May's record was clearly superior in primary statistical categories such as average disposals, effective disposals and marks.

It's not a great argument, but I suppose you're welcome to it.

On this, I think you have to factor in his injury history. There is no point to a mature back up option that you can't rely on to be fit when back up is needed.

Coffield’s body is shot and he has a visible lack of confidence in it when he plays at afl level.

Keeping him and dumping JJ would be rough.

I would have preferred a one year deal for JJ given his service and achievements with the understanding he would mostly be around to keep Footscray competitive. He was obviously declined and near the end but wasn’t that bad in most of his 16 games.

if this is just a post trade period deep cut and we turf Coffield and Poulter as well it’s probably more understandable.
