Trade for a CHB!

Woosha said we would be trading aggressively this year, and I can only assume that someone other than Stenglein is on our shopping list.

We still desperately need a ready-made CHB (even if Staker is being groomed for that spot), and we have a heap of trade fodder to target a key defender.

All the rumours involve guys like Leon Davis and Ashley McGrath, small utilities that are of little use to us.

Can anyone suggest a key defender that Woosha might be targetting for the rest of the week?

What exactly don't you understand?

Stenglein is 190cm, and this thread is devoted to the search for another tall defender.

once u guys get a gun foward and backman ull dominate the comp! I think tex walker would b a very handy pickup for you guys as he is a man mountain and very athletic. Within the next few years, with proper coaching he will develope into a great backman. But i dont know if collingwood would trade him (??) .Mcgrath also would b a handy pickup for u guys if u could get him relativly cheaply as he could play off the half back flank, he has good speed and disposal and is very good in defence for brisbane (when used there). Any way just wana congratulate u guys on putting a very good team (midfield) together, just hope the pies can get a few handy players for once in a trading period

I think our best bet is a WA guy, Jon Hay would be good but who could we offer, we had the same problem with Thompson, I cant see us getting a current class CHB

I do agree we need another tall defender.

Our talls, although talented, are very much weighted towards the forwards. This is the list of talls:
Gardiner - Ruckman, CHF.
Cox - Ruckman, spare parts Forward who can create problems but can't kick at goal.
Seaby - Ruckman, Forward.
McDougall - Forward.
Staker - Forward, can play back but far too small to handle most forwards.
Hansen - Forward.
Gaspar - Forward.
Glass - Backman.
Lynch - Backman, Forward.
Hunter - Backman, spare parts forward.
Johnson - replacement Forward
Beeck - replacement Ruckman
Carroll - crap backman.
McConnell - young unknown.

We really should look at recruiting another tall backman, at the expense of a tall forward.

The way i see it (at least for 2004):
1) Cox, Gardiner and Seaby are all too valuable too trade. If:
a) Gardiner comes back next year and shows he can ruck, then we would probably trade Cox for a backman. Play Gardy in the ruck and play Seaby second ruck and a tall forward..
b) If Gardiner can't ruck (or only as a forward ruck). Then all three must stay with Cox spending about 2/3rds a match as main ruck and getting rests on the bench. Seaby spends about 1/3 as ruck, 1/3 as a forward, 1/3 on bench. Gardiner becomes permenant CHF.
2) Travis Gaspar wouldn't get us the quality of player he is because of his injuries.
3) Paul Johnson, Zac Beeck and Daniel McConnell wouldn't get us the quality of player because of their lack of runs on the board.
4) Trent Carroll wouldn't get us the quality of player we want because of his lack of talent.

Which leaves just Andrew McDougall, Brent Staker and Ashley Hansen. All would have their trade valued in that order as well.

I said this is another thread, for each of these guys we'd be looking at:
McDougall - Bret Thornton (Blues)
Staker - Brian Harris (Dogs)
Hansen - Corey Jones (Roos)

or simliar standard players

Once again you raise this point and I agree with you but why keep harping on about it when you dont even know yourself who we should be targeting?
