Well we have seen what we need on the big stage and thats a player who can dominate one on one situations

dimma has as playing a style that can truly dominate if we had a power forward IMO

I would fully support a trade involving a star player for boyd. People need to put emotion out of the picture and do what is needed.

Thats my opinion but whats urs ? Do we offer jacks cousin another shot at a gf and finals ? Food for thought

No, would cost the earth and he's nearly 31. Contract aside, and putting emotion out of the pic, I would consider trading Nick's cousin if we could secure some young gun(s) in return.... No doubt he's a good player is Jack, but in my opinion he doesn't dominate nearly enough to justify his enormous wage.

Problem is that Jack is being played to far up the ground. Leave him up forward and pluck the big marks like he used to do 3 years ago.

I know his role has altered but if you look at the balance sheet we just are not getting a decent return on our investment. Any forward can provide assists, that's expected. Jack is considered in our best 4 players so why don't we see his name in the best players column at least three times a month.....?

Power forwards are like hens teeth nowadays, who is really in that category nowadays? Shultz, Cloke, Walker, Hawkins...?

We'd have to draft one IMO. Hourigan, hope he slides to our 2nd pick

For me, I actually strongly disagree with the premise of the thread and I am opposed to the general discussion going on in here.

Everyone has their opinion and their own unique insights - but here is mine:

Don't change our strategy around and take any big risks. Keep doing what we've been doing for the past 4 years under Dimma - gradually, continually, inch by inch, small trades, incremental improvement.

We don't need to make any grand trade schemes work out for us to be successful.

Stick to the original plan and keep building methodically.

That's what will be best for Richmond.

Don't let our first finals appearance alter the list management philosophies that actually got us here in the first place.

We need a tall CH forward that can enable Jack to play out of the square where he is the most dangerous. We need McBean to fill out quickly in the next few years, and Griff/Astbury to improve 1000% to take that role.
Not many players in the comp running around that can do that. i'd give a first round pick/second round for Josh Kennedy or Jack Darling. I would also trade second round pick for J. Westhoff or Schulz (i think we shouldn't have traded him)

other than that, i would rather stay with our drafting process.

Would consider trading 2nd pick and vickery for a top 3 pick

I would really like us to bring in some pace into the side - we looked a bit slow yesterday especially with no White out there.

Dayle Garlett I'd be keen to take a punt on if we could reasonably assume he won't be Troy Taylor mk2. With Choco around, maybe he could help him settle down like he has with Dusty?

Taylor Adams from GWS for our first pick?

I think with Conca, Vlastuin and Ellis all coming along as midfielders, we can push Titch back forward to being that crumbing forward we seem to lack up forward. I think we also need to start looking for another second small defender who can lock down those dangerous smalls - Morris can take 1 but if we come up against a team with 2 or more genuine smalls, we can be a bit exposed as Grimes (despite his versatility to play tall and small) isn't an ideal match up for those crumber types especially when it hits the deck IMO.

A project ruckman who can help out Maric might be worth considering if Derickx is delisted.

I would preferably like to see us keep our first rounder, but will back the club in if they believe in using it to get a young gun that is a need for our list. I dont think we at at a stage in our development where we can waste good picks/cap space on older players yet.

Bradley Helbig ,Matty Arnot ,Liam McBean ,Matty McDonough

All need to be played and fast tracked next year as well as another Elite paced midfielder
Unfortunately even though i love these boys Jake King , Chris Newman , Aaron Edwards are not going to get us to the next level ----------- Nathan Foley is another thats borderline by his last 5 games

It would be great if these threads remained realistic.

Jack just signed and is a big part of the club, he is in the clubs untouchable category.

Your wish that threads remain realistic is in itself unrealistic.
In basic business terms we're not getting a decent return from him - this is beyond dispute.
Yes, I recognise that he is contracted, and yes I recognise that he is considered untouchable, but he should be having a much greater impact to justify his enormous wage. He is considered a "matchwinner" hence he should be regularly dominating defences - this does not happen often enough. I'm not saying he's not trying or isn't a good bloke, I just think we have a right as Members to expect more from him.

Make no mistake, he would be getting hauled in to the Boss's office if he had a "real" job....

We've fallen into the trap of getting a big name player because we think we are on 'the verge'.
Let's not make those mistakes again.
The list is fine, it's the coaching which needs to be fine-tuned.
Nothing against Dimma. Love the bloke, but Malthouse showed him up big time yesterday.

Rebuild, we're not on the right track ;)

You joke now but it wouldn't surprise me if we had a mini-rebuild/least clean out next year. We have a heap of guys that probably need another year but if they don't step up then they're gone.

He is on considerably less than his market value for his output this season and those prior. He took less to stay with us, make no mistake about that.

You're probably right. I shouldn't be posting anything with the bitter taste of yesterday still stinging. I might have a spell for a week or two.....

You are not the Lone Ranger mate

Not a rebuild but we really need to keep building on what we have got already. We almost have the subset of players required to play finals every year for the next 5-7 years. However we need to never get comfortable and never take shortcuts. Go to the draft this year and take 4-5 players and maybe bring in a recycled player under 22. Focus on getting games into the blokes currently withering away at Coburg because they have more talent than we have seen in the VFL. Richmond VFL could not come quick enough I honestly think it has greatly impacted some of our players careers playing in such a shit Coburg outfit.

We need to find out about these guys - Astbury, Griffiths, Dea, Batchelor, Helbig, Elton, O'Hanlon. I reckon a couple of these guys may be delisted or traded this year but hopefully we find out more about them because there is talent in that group capable of improving our team.
