Don't know why but there has been alot of trade talk recently and i thought I'd throw in my two bob's worth.

Hansen and 2nd round pick for Fevola

You got the Hansen part right but Carlton would like a first rounder instead, I agree we should make a move for Fev but not sacrificing Hansen, what about Beeck, T Gaspar, Lynch, McDougall.

Well three of those aren't worth a squirt of cat ******** and Carlton wouldn't entertain any of them.

Are you people all on drugs?

1) Hansen is going to be a gun CHF. Why the hell would we entertain trading him?
2) Smith will play FF next year and we would get r*ped if we went after Fevola. We'll have enough trouble keeping our current list together without offering Fevola $400,000 a season.
3) Stop worrying about securing a high-profile FF. If we target any ready-made players, we should be going after a CHB.

You're prone to talking a lot of ********, but you're absolutely correct in this instance. We've got several options in KP forward positions and pretty much no back up for Glass.

Forget about back-ups. Even at full strength our backline is under-sized.

Hunter has been fantastic this year, but if we had a genuine tall at CHB (+192cm), Hunter could play as a 3rd tall and our backline would be one of the best around.

Staker is not the answer at CHB.

What, realistically, would you want from the Doggies for A.McDougal?

Draft picks. Probably a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder.

In the end though, trading McDougall for draft picks wouldn't be worth our while. We'd be better off keeping him for one more season in the hope he turns it around.

Not sure we'll trade much of anything this season unless its long term shoring up our list down the track.

We've pretty much assembled the team for a tilt at the premiership, and we've probably got about a 3-4 year window with this group at their peak. Got good kids running around, but people like Cousins and Wirrpunda will be tough to replace once they are past their best.

Given the amount of people who are going to be looking for a pay rise at the end of 06, we're also going to experience dire salary cap pressure even with Fido and Banfield on the way out- off hand I can think of about a dozen eagles who would be very justified in asking for hefty pay rises the next time negotiations crop up- compare for example the likely change in value of Cox, Hansen or Hunter the next time they're negotiating contracts.

With that in mind, there is no way we'd be able to get someone like Fevola unless we shipped out one of the major midfielders- parly because we'd need to do agood deal to get him here and partly because I doubt our salary cap could handle another big name without freeing some space up. Given how conservative we've been with trading, I can't see that happening.

Head-Case Fevola.... Get nicked, you can stick that up your jumper!

Polak has nothing over Doogs. Both in very similar situations. Polak is in the weaker side so he is getting a game. Abit from left field but how would that trade go? Im probly in favour of keeping Doogs but im sure the dockers are feeling the same about Polak.

Polak is a vastly superior contested marks, and has better instincts as a KPP.

Polak would be far more valuable holding down CHB than McDougall has been as a hot-and-cold FF.

McConnell is looking to be traded back to Melbourne you heard it here first
What is this based on?

If you heard it from some guy who knows a guy who works with McConnell's uncle, don't bother.

How So?

1).
If we traded for Fevola - what Kerr & a 1st round draft pick & Fev on $600K a year = No Thanks. Fev's a loose head, not quite all there & the 1 bad game he displays... the media will be onto him like a rash gone bad.

Too high a price to pay for someone that can only patch together 4 weeks max. of good form, and then goes walkabout.

What about a rift between seniors players that put their heart into training only to see Fev tanking it = No Thanks.

2).
McDud
Geez I'm gonna be angry if he gets a game anytime soon.
Hypothetical:
McDud gets a game on poor form in the WAFL, what does that tell other senior players playing in the WAFL that have been in blistering form?

It's not like McDougall is a proven player that has played his heart out and been a champion for years, and theredore, regardless of form, he has the "runs on the board" and gets an automatic guernsey straight back into the side, ala Matera.

Eagles have been playing 12 weeks now with a reasonably settled line-up. Take Lynch out and out McDougall at FF. What happens then? The midfield then has to adjust the way they deliver as there's another player at FF. This does not happen overnight.

The only value I can see in bringing him in this year, is:
Make him look good, so we can trade him for more.
Give him some game-time experience, in case our whole forward line succumbs to the Asian bird flu.

Are you on drugs?

McDougall barely worth 2nd round...

we got a 2nd rounder for Paul Johnson who had only played 1 AFL game and got something like 2 handballs mainly due to the fact he was a young KPP.

If he's worth a second rounder, McDougall would go for more. Has more potential and has performed a lot better at AFL level.

Lets get rid off Gardy. He has no spot in our team any more. He cant take Hanson's spot and Woosha wont play him at FF. Staker is a better fit because he can play as a third tall/flanker in our forward line, also play on the third oppisition tall forward while Edwards goes forward. He wont ruck and with Seaby coming along great he wont get the back up gig. Tell me where if he was fit right now would he play. Gardy hasn't proved to be a gun forward so lets get rid of him we will get a gun in return.

No point in getting rid of him.

He's been too injury prone (no great revelation) and every other club knows it. To trade him, would be to get a 2nd or 3rd round draft in return, at best! At another club, he may fall over, or he may come back to bite us on the Arse.

Very sad really, to see him dominate like no other ruckman I've seen in my lifetime & to be the no.1 player in the league in 3/4 of 03, and now to see him whithering away with injury after injury.... it's very sad.

Maybe Woosh just needs to write-off this year for him and tell him to take a break and rock up back to pre-season in Oct.

not sure exactly who we would look at getting but i would think we would want a few tall strong contested marking options for the Half Forward and Half Back Lines the players we could trade would be:
Wooden
Adkins (i know we only just got him)
McDougall
Staker
Butler
Selwood
Nicoski
Edwards
McConnel
R. Jones

as well as a few other fringe players. I wouldn't say we would trade them all or even be actively looking to offload most of them but if a team has a player we are after i would think a trade offer should come from amongst that group.

Some of those players like Edwards look like they could develop into key players but that is how they become good trade prospects, we trade a couple of players with potential that has been shown in a game this year (i.e. edwards and butler) for someone who has proven to be a force at AFL level.

He's worth whatever a club is willing to give us in return for him.

He'll be 22 at season's end has shown glimpses at FF.

A 1st round and 2nd round pick for McDougall would be worth our while. Anything less wouldn't be.

Whether another club is willing to part with those picks is another story, but I don't think WC would move him on for less. We'd be better off giving him another season to see if he comes good.

WC are not in a position where we're desperate to trade or turn our list over.
