Gun ruck sure, but a gun ruck older than our young core, that will make us lose ladhams and Hayes for peanuts and leave us 3/4 years to draft develop or trade in a Grundy replacement otherwise our young core will be missing a vital piece.

We have the core of a young spine with clurey burton Howard Hayes ladhams Marshall and Frampton
You say Brodie Grundy is too old for our young core, yet still list the older Clurey as a part of our young core.

Clurey was more in the context of having a spine set and how that lets us draft.

Clurey is the oldest of the young core though. He isn’t older than Grundy unless by a matter of months and he doesn’t require millions of dollars or high picks to sign.

I was also referring to clurey in the context of our spine and the luxury that having most of our spine set in place allows us to target easy to find midfielders in the draft and not repeatedly burn draft picks and list spots looking for rucks and kpps because we’re desperate

Tomlinson is still one we want. I think we are a good chance at getting him.

I imagine we will also be keenly pursuing Lukosious and Rankine in years to come.

Tomlinson I like. Decent hard running player but not a star that I would want though.

✔️

Free agent we don’t have to trade for.

✔️

Another 26/27yr old when I want to build around Rozee butters duursma Marshall burton etc

✖️

A 193cm flanker who doesn’t play especially tall but Hinkley will use as an excuse to not pick a tall player cause we are tall enough

✖️

I would rather we hit the draft very hard over next 2 years, extract whatever trade value we can out of whoever leaves us and go hard for luko first and foremost and consider petty as an undervalued defender we might be able to snag.

The thing with Hately (and Caldwell) is that GWS don’t need them. That’s before this year’s draft where they have 2 first round picks, one tied to Essendon which will be quite early, and a gun inside mid coming through the academy.

Id be going hard after rankine. Would allow rozee some more midfield time whilst adding a dynamic smallish forward who also woul dend up running through the midfield. Would solve a lot of our problems quickly

He couldnt be happy up there and knowing his old man he would be wanting to leave already

I can’t see Gold Coast trading luko or rankine while they are contracted

They have very little to gain in doing so, they don’t need to bring in a first rounder to just trade them out a year later.

They need to develop their first round selections and build a strong culture.

Unless those guys are on their hands and knees begging to go and are at a point where the quality of their footy is suffering and they aren’t close to playing games and are no chance off staying making the club is better off trading them they shouldn’t even consider it.

Hately has wanted to go home since May. Lacking opportunity. The kicker is that his mum has been in his ear since November.

I think Adelaide will offer #1 2019 for Lukosius and if that doesn't work, for Rankine. GC can always refuse but risk getting less later.

The issue is what GC make of the quality of # 1 in 2019 and where would Rowell and Anderson have gone if they were in the 2018 draft?

It's Grundy or draft.

Both are massively beneficial. Brodie for obvious reasons and the hype and membership uptick off the back of a #pick

The problem is they keep getting these high draft picks and what good has it done them? There is no way they drafted Luko and Rankine to even consider trading them out a year or two later.

If Atley moves on, Trengove delisted, if SPP doesn’t show improvement I wonder whether we would look to trigger a trade.

Boak, Rocky they could suddenly drop off a cliff at anytime. Despite how well they’re playing this year. So our midfield depth could vanish soon.

As a side note, I genuinely believe if we see even two of Rankine, Lukosius and King leave in the next few years it'll spell the end for the Gold Coast. A failed experiment.

Gold Coast need players who are willing to stay there. If GC was offered a good young player, whose willing to sign a 4+ year contract, along with a first round pick I think they’d bite. It’s finding a good young player (no fringe or yet to play PlayStation offers) on our list and then he’s willing to go that’s the hard part. Otherwise competing with everyone at the end of 2020 for the pair.

King will be back in Vic in no time. Luko and Rankine will leave too, all just a matter of time. That list is seriously uninspiring.

Hateley would be solid for us. Bonar might be available too.

If Hawthorn are chasing a ‘SA’ KPF would have to Frampton or Cox. I can’t see Marshall leaving, supportive club, borderline 22 and on good money. Fogarty at the crows is looking for a house in SA and content behind the current crop who will retire soon.

Amon would have to be 50:50 to stay but should net us something if he goes.

Wouldn’t put it past the SA clubs to bring Day home.
