Lots of trade targets mentioned in recent months, including: J Brown, Didak, Rhyce shaw, Kerr, Warnock, Rutten (to Pies), Street, and the port ruckman. Some others as well.

Kerr and J Brown represents the biggest names going but I think we should be aiming at 2 others.

Rutten gets my first vote. Rutten would fast fwd our defensive unit 2-3 years. Next year would see our defensive half move into the top 6 ranked teams with him embedded at full back. Herald sun mentioned today that he was a target of the Pies so there must be something going on in the background - Carlton should get in on the action.

My second vote goes to a ruckman who can win a tap. Not 100% sold on who that should be exactly, but i'm in favour of Warnock. He is 1 year older than Hampson and has played the game a lot longer. Is developing quicker and maturing faster due to age. If not him, then a mature ruckman that is available.

As for Kerr and Brown. We dont need either of them at the price/cost. Our midfield will be strong enough without Kerr to win a premiership in 2-3 years - and think the cost. As for Brown, the price is way to high for an older injury prone player. Carlton is still more than a year away from a grand final. No way should we sell the farm for 1-2 years of his best.

We need KKP players x2. We also dont want to pay the earth when we have already done that once to secure Judd.

Get Street from bulldogs. It's simple. We don't have a ruckman and this fella was 2nd in hitouts in 06. Would get it down to give us first use and will come cheap as he is out of favour. Offer him 1st ruckman spot and he will be a blue.

After this we must look at getting a kpp whether it is a back/forward.

Good start - would add Alipate Carlile from Port - very good strong young defender from Vic Country - might be keen on returning to VIC

Campbell from Freo who looks a very good 2nd or 3rd forward line target - also mundy would be worth looking at

geelong looks to have too much depth again and will have to unload a couple due to salary cap issues -

Would not be interested in brown or lade - would not be part of our next flag

As for thornton i like the looks of a late 1st Round draft pick.
with our backline gettin stronger with the young kids coming through why not go for a new young defender in this year's draft since its going to be strong.

I just came our of a mind bending four hour meeting....had a bad headache, tired, cranky, hungry...the works, really stuffed my day.

Then I read that you think Jason Laycock is worth a first round pick, laughed so hard I nearly self abluted, and now everything doesn't seem so bad.

Thanks.

OZBomb, you are definitely over-rating some of our players. Carrazzo wouldn't attract a second rounder, middle third rounder and Thornton wouldn't even be close to a first rounder, early third rounder for mine. Fisher might be able to get a middle second rounder but that is pushing it. Also Bentick would be a 4th rounder, mighty lucky to get a third rounder IMO.

lol... Slightly misinterpreting my list there. I think the Bombers will want that for him given the development they've put in... I'm not sure anyone would even entertain giving them that.

By the same token, suggesting Jason Laycock is worth more than half a cheese sandwich is overrating him, too, so there's overrating on both sides.

Lol. :D
What type of cheese though? That could be the clincher.

Jordan Bannister, realistically is on borrowed time on our list. If you can get the bloke to another club you might give him an extra few years he wouldn't get at the Blues.

As for Thornton, it's supply and demand come trade time. If you get enough clubs having a crack at him you could get him as high as late first round.

Definitely a soft cheese. There's no way anything hard goes the other way for Laycock.

Is there such a thing as lazy cheese?

Like a Brie? mouldy exterior due to long periods of not moving and soft inside?

I'd give up a late 2nd round pick for Laycock though.

Bannister is 25, has 60 odd games under the belt, was in great nick prior to injury, and at present is exactly the type of defensive mid we need.

He ain't goin' nowhere.

Why? What does Laycock possibly bring to our club? He has far more talent that Cameron Cloke, yet delivers less. Cloke at least tries his wide, slow ass off. Laycock is awful.

We don't need more ruckmen who aren't good enough. Yet another not-good ruckman doesn't help. We end up with 4 tall guys who can't win a hitout, rather than 3.

We either need a veteran like Lade to hold the fort for 12 months, provided he still has the fire and comes cheap, or we just tough it out with the youngsters we're playing in Hammer, Cloke and Kreuze.

Probably already explained this in another thread, but I wouldn't be going into trade week going "Andrew Carrazzo is on the table, we want a 2nd round pick for him... but if you talk to us on Friday we might give you him for an early fourth."

Whereas a Thornton, you go in with the mindset that Tall Backmen are rare and that you want a first round pick or you'll keep him.

Fair enough, I just reckon there's more development in him. Agree to disagree.
